January 26, 20251 yr thanks, @SimonF & @spl147. updated to 26c without issue. fan control log looks much better. spundown override lockout working as well. the "Enable Virtual Machine Override:" helptext on the "settings" tabs formatting is kinda borked. it doesnt sit below the title of the field like the rest of the helptexts, it nests the title within the helptext popout. i highlighted it for visibility, its white text on light blue and is barely visible without the highlight. for the "fan settings" helptext, where its placed is not over the "fan settings" title. see attached, it doesnt show that it can be expanded when i hover over red, it does when i hover over blue.
January 26, 20251 yr @SimonF Do you have a readme that explains what these settings mean? I'm currently experimenting with my R730XD, just want to be sure I understand what happens if temps rise above say 70. Do the fans kick on at 100% at that point if it's above the high temp threshold? Is the low temp threshold essentially what sets the minimum fan speed? Edited January 26, 20251 yr by tslamars

January 26, 20251 yr Any idea why I can't change the polling time on the temp checks? I'd prefer the CPU to be every 30 seconds. Is it related to me not using the network connection? Or something else?

Thanks all the same I have my server in my office and spent good money on Noctua fans so my server would be near-silent. Without this plugin, the fans were constantly pulsing and driving me crazy.

January 26, 20251 yr A cool feature to have would be to poll on either the CPU or a GPU if you have one installed. For instance: In my R730XD, I have an Nvidia Tesla P4. Since the GPU is doing work transcoding and temps can rise quickly, the CPU temps are generally unaffected during a transcode. It would be nice to be able to poll the GPU and control fan speeds based on that in addition to CPU. Cheers
January 26, 20251 yr Any idea why it's not polling every 30 seconds all of a sudden? Temps are rising (doing a large zfs file transfer) and the fans should be increasing in speed. I noticed in the logs, there's no messages indicating it's polling anymore. It polls once upon initial start, then nothing after that, it's been more than 30 seconds: Edited January 26, 20251 yr by tslamars

It polls once upon initial start, then nothing after that, it's been more than 30 seconds: Your settings are crazy, if you are using cpu as your temp to poll you only have a 10c differential, no to mention your low temp threshold is below your current temp. Low temp should be close to your idle temp, and max should be close to the max temp you want when your fans are screaming. Min fan temp should be the lowest possible to maintain idle temp and max should be as loud as you want to deal with while being able to keep the cpu under max. it’s a try and see to find the proper mix, i used the ipmi-raw command in terminal to play with fan speeds, and the cpu corefreq plug-in to load the cpu and adjust the fans using the ipmi-raw command to find the right balance

It polls once upon initial start, then nothing after that, it's been more than 30 seconds: when you are below your "low temperature threshold", your fans will run at the "fan speed minimum" which it appears to be in the log. what are your temps getting up to and its not increasing your fans?
