XBMC Standalone Library Updater for UnRAID

Featured Replies

What about the thumbs (cover and stuff), where is it placed? on the unraid machine or on every client side?

i dont recall at the moment but it is no different than any other instance of xbmc.

i'm already running a mysql library on an unraid machine

I have 2 other machines containing xbmc (so 2 clients)

Will this addon auto update the library, as soon as i delete for exaple one movie (from a client machine), or from a fourth windows machine (without xbmc)?

its pretty much a daemon version of xbmc so it can run in the background alongside your downloading programs to update the library immediately, since not everyone keeps xbmc running all the time. for the most part, it does whatever regular xbmc does. what youre talking about it cleaning the library, and yes, it could do that if you somehow set something to notify it as soon as a file is deleted. just like regular xbmc.

so for now.. it only updates library when you have a finished download with sab?

well, no, it will update the library however you set it up to, just like any other xbmc. whether that is on startup, cronjob, after a download, whatever.

I see

And this i can setup in the webgui?

lol, sorry, i changed my response while you were replying. no, you cant. i hadnt conceived of that initially but now that people are mentioning it i will add it to the to-do list.

Cool!

Are you planning to update this addon the long way (whenever a new unraid version comes and if it wouldnt work anymore or whenever a new xbmc version comes..)

ok, bobbintb I now have taken a known good sources.xml file from a local installation of xbmc which is successfully updating locally an inserted it into the directory of your plugin and then restarted the plugin but it still will not scan

Are you planning to update this addon the long way (whenever a new unraid version comes and if it wouldnt work anymore or whenever a new xbmc version comes..)

ideally, but we will see what life throws at me along the way.

I even used this command to copy the new sources file cp /boot/config/plugins/xbmcsalud/sources.xml /usr/local/share/xbmc/portable_data/userdata/sources.xml

that shouldnt be necessary as the plugin copies it to the right place before it starts the program. and the location depends on what you specify as the install/data directory.

what is the setup of the other xbmc you were using? is it on another machine? windows? you got everything working, mysqldatabase, library updated ok, everything working?

if you can, give me a step by step of how all your systems are set up and how you have the plugin setup. it almost looks like it is not reading the sources.xml. i think you just missed some crucial step in there somewhere.

hi bobbinth,

the other system is a windows 8 with xmbc 12.2. it does not update to the mysql database right now only local database and that is working without any issue. I copied the sources file to the plugin directory and then I restarted the plugin. Did I miss something?

You should first get your Windows 8 install of XBMC working properly with the MySQL database. Once you have that working and updating properly come back.

what he said. it's like trying to fix a broken car by looking at another broken car.

Agreed.

I am going to be setting up XBMC on my Mac to use the mysql database and then move to getting this working and THEN move to getting my main XBMC machine moved over to using the mysql database.

is anyone aware of any crontab plugin or such for unraid? ive read about cron management being implemented in future versions as well but who knows how long that will be. i want to implement a cron job into the plugin but if there is already a valid solution, theres not much point in the wasted effort.

There are unmenu packages that use cron.  My .DS_Store one can insert and remove from cron.  You might be able to pick some stuff up from there.

You could just create a script and drop it in cron.hourly

Simple features may have some cron stuff in it as well. There is a scheduler for parity checks, I don't know if it taps into cron or not, but see if you can lift any code from that.

yea, ive seen cron in a few plugins. i will probably just do that. it shouldnt take to long once i find the time. i was mostly just trying to consider the merits of each plugin creating its own cron jobs versus some kind of cron job manager, whether it be a plugin or implemented into unraid itself.

i actually still think my mysql does not like to communicate with xbmc... really annoying

Come on over to the XBMC forums and we can get you fixed up as this is not really due to the plugin. Create a new thread on the XBMC forums in the proper place and PM me the link on the XBMC forums. I have the same username there. You may want to search thru the threads there about the mySQL setup as well before you post. IF you do post, let's start with the Windows 8 setup talking to the unRAID mySQL server first. Put you log on pastebin and link to it in your post, as well as your advancedsettings.xml file and sources.xml file.

Yea, that's what I was thinking looking back at your previous sql log. Follow kricker's advice. That should get you going.

Here's a new log after a server reboot.  The last line tells me Samba is loaded.  I changed the "run as" to Root in case it was a permissions problems but nothing changed.

assuming other clients can access them, it looks like your machine is having trouble accessing files on its own share through smb. maybe an authentication issue?

what does this give you?:

smbclient -L 127.0.0.1 -U%

root@tdm:~# smbclient -L 127.0.0.1 -U%

I got XBMC up and running using a mysql database on my test unRAID machine.  It all went pretty well, just a few things I changed.

The other thing I changed was to have my thumbnails and the like stored on the server so that all XBMC clients use the same ones and see the same thing.

Will probably get it set up this way on my main XBMC machine after the weekend is over and I get back from vacation.

dalben, try this:

smbclient //TDM/videos -U%

i suspect that will give you an error trying to connect. if that connects, try 'ls' to list everything. i think there might be an authentication issue.

root@tdm:~# smbclient //TDM/videos -U%
WARNING: The "null passwords" option is deprecated
Domain=[RADIKAL] OS=[unix] Server=[samba 3.6.10]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
root@tdm:~#

looks like you're right.  ill have a play around tomorrow morning and see what i can find

ah good. in my experience linux frequently has authentication issues with smb. for me its usually something like the linux machine is trying to verify a username or password even when there is none and it errors out. thats partly why i use something else if linux is involved. if it is just windows i will use smb.

let me know how it goes.
