Release: Folding@Home Docker

Installed this docker last night, could not access  the webui because the xml is configured to use 192.168.1.0/24 not everyone uses that subnet. (I hate it in Fact) ANYWAY fixed that and let it run. I did notice that my cpu (4 cores) went from a paltry 28% to 90%. I didn't like that so i change the power setting to light while i'm working.

Open plex.tv from a remote location and started a movie (Brave) and it played fine. the first 5 minutes it stuttered a bit but not much. CPU hung around 90 95% then movie stopped the stuttering and played fine, and cpu dropped to 55 to 60% not bad.

I am going to assume that at home it will have not effect.

I am running plugins from Phaze , plex and sab. Dockers sickrage , CP, owncloud, and still trying to get upstatboard to work.

Ok i have not idea how to change the user name but Im there call me anonymous.

You can change the user name either by manually modifying the config.xml file as per the OP, or you can also load the windows software, then in the advanced mode have it connect to the unRaid software and change it there.  Not at home so can't give real good instructions

Team UnRAID are you guys even trying?

Also thank you Capt.Insano, this give my box something to do when idle.

@Darqfallen

Some score!! Good job!

What are the specs of your unRAID machine? You much be flying through the work units to get that score (417268 at time of post) with that few work units done (42 at the of post). You are averaging 9935 points per work unit, that is amazing!!

I am only averaging 155 by comparision!! (My CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core 4600+ 2.41GHZ)

@everyone

Incase anyone is interested (I was, I just read it) here is how points are calculated!!

Also Team unRAID is doing great everyone!, with only 8 named members we are in the 96th percentile of all Folding@Home Teams

ie: We doing better than 95% of all the teams registered with Folding@Home.

Thanks to all, hopefully more unRAID users will join us!

The Capt.

Add me to the list.  My 10,000 points arent much....but climbing at 1900 per day

Just wondering;

As Folding@Home has no native scheduling ability, would people be interested in a crontab scheduling option that would allow people schedule times where FAHClient would run @ Light/Medium/Full Power etc.? From what I have been reading on the Folding@Home wiki it should be possible.

I am mainly thinking of people who may be avoiding this container due to already running intensive CPU tasks such as Plex etc. and worrying that it would affect their streams during the day.

My Idea: If people had the FAHClient running with "Light" CPU use during the day they would notice no problems with other services from their UnRAID server and then maybe change to "Medium" or "High" CPU use during the night when the server is not in use.

Ideas Welcome.

The Capt.

Hi there, did anything ever come of this? I'm definitely interested, since as someone else mentioned, the "idle" setting doesn't seem to work with unRAID. This would be the next best option to not disrupt normal operations.

I  believe the universally accepted way to is use "CPU Pinning" with the F@H docker container.  I gave F@H 3 of my 6 cores, and my CPU bounces between 40-60 percent.  Is that what you are looking for?

EDIT:  Actually I lied...  I am only using 2 cores.  This line goes into "Extra Parameters" in "Advanced Settings"

--cpuset-cpus="1,2"

Keep in mind that CPU Count starts at 0.  In my case, Core 0 is being used for a VM.  So I have a 6 core CPU.

Core 0 - VM

Core 1,2 - F@H

Core 3,4,5 - Plex

Since 0,3,4,5 should really never been at 100%, unraid still works fine.  You will find though that 1 and 2 will be at 100 most of the time.  All clear?

I can definitely start messing with that option as well as the config options in F@H itself, just trying to be lazy about it.

Ideally someone could write a script that toggled F@H's pause/fold state based on what is considered "idle" for unRAID, meaning no activity on disks or docker images. That would offer maximum benefit for both unRAID performance and F@H productivity.

That looks like a connection issue to a folding@home assignment server.  Restart the container and check if the server is back up. Otherwise check that ports are open as per the folding@home docker template.

Just installed this docker and am getting the same thing - windows client is working just find on my 3 win 10 machines - they are getting out to the server

WUI is not loading as well

Ideas?

Myk

Change the number of CPUs assigned to your folding slot.  I found a mention of this issue on the folding forum https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=28863

I haven't been able to access the web UI but I can connect through the os x controller app.  I feel like the default settings should work on my network but I still can't connect.

...This is my first post I think. I'm running 2xIntel Xeon E5-2670 @ 2.60GHz on an ASRock EP2C602-4L/D16.

This worked perfectly, thanks!

Was getting the error: Failed to get assignment from '171.67.108.45:8080': Empty work server assignment and it wasn't working, went through the document and added the following:

<cpus v="1"/>

Under the CPU Use section. I'm not sure why it matters when it already detects the number of cores but it works! :D
