[Plugin] Linuxserver.io - Unraid DVB

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend I have upgraded to 6.3.1 and I can confirm that is the version listed in the currently installed build.  And I can successfully use firewire.

But the system is telling me that there is an update available.  Isn't 6.3.1 the latest version?

Hmmm, strange.  Try checking for updates in the plugin system.  Not seeing the same behaviour on my system.

I clicked the check for updates button in the top right but that didn't change anything.

On the main plugins page where it lists all plugins it says that the version that I have is dated 2016.12.07.

When I click on the unRAID DVB icon and go into the specific page it does say in red that an update is available.

But my versions listed are unRAID version 6.3.1, DVB version LibreELEC, DVB Kernel detected.  Everything else is not detected.  And I am happily using firewire with my cable box in SageTV.

OK, now I get what you mean, yeah there's been an update to the DVB plugin not the Unraid OS.  Last update I pushed was 09.02.2017, just upgrade it and the plugin will upgrade.  No reboot necessary.  If you click the i icon you'll see a changelog.  I mostly use updates to fix a thing here and there and also notify of new Unraid DVB OS versions.

Unless you have a DVB or ATSC card installed it won't detect your cable boxs.

Hi

I'm considering adding some tuners - has anyone managed to get either of these to work? If not, which USB (cheap!) tuners are recommended?  Thanks

Best place to look for this kind of thing is here or here.

I can't get tvheadend docker to see my tuners - can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong please?

- wintv quadhd tuners

- selected Libreelec 6.3.1. build

- ran through tvheadend wizard but no DVB-T2 tuners available

Did you add the device tag for the dvb adapters in the tvheadend template?

Just add the below in the extra parameters box in advanced view.

--device=/dev/dvb

Added this to the original post.  Probably should have done so earlier.  ::)

Thanks - sorted.  Tuners passed through - now having fun getting channels scanned.  Mini project for tonight to get Freeview working in TVheadend!

Pretty sure that firmware is included tbh.

It is.....

The firmware is present in the DVB build.  Can you post a screenshot of the Unraid DVB Plugin page please?  Like this....
Will have another look when get home and get server back online

Where do you see that you need firmware? I don't see anything wrong in the log.

The firmware isn't what's displayed in the above code.

If you look at the sample kernel output in this link you'll see your is indeed as it should be, no mention in the kernel output of which firmware is use.

The mention of the firmware version you keep referring to is below that and occurs at first tune, which isn't what you've posted above.

I've checked the LibreELEC file system and the firmware you refer to is definitely in the image.  You can check by running

[ -f /lib/firmware/dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw ] && echo "Found" || echo "Not found"

I'm loving how much non-techies (not sure how much longer I can call myself that!) learn on this forum!

Getting closer to the solution I think.  From the TVHeadend forums:

Most newer revisions of the si2168 firmware are named "dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw". See http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/ for the different versions.

Be aware that some tuners can be fussy with certain revisions. I couldn't tune with 4.0.19, I'm currently using 4.0.25 which is fine. The others caused a few issues (glitching) but generally seemed to work okay.

If the kernel extract you posted is from the version of the firmware included, the plugin is using firmware version 4.0.11 whereas 4.0.25 is the latest version:

http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/Si2168/Si2168-B40/

Is there a way for me to see my kernel output to confirm the plugin is using 4.0.11?  If so, I think this is why I'm having problems as 4.0.11 is two years old, and even with 4.0.19 some users had problems.

Is it easy for you to update to 4.0.25?

I don't see how you can extrapolate the firmware version from anything I've seen posted here.  The link I posted was from the Linux TV wiki.  One thought, might be worth trying the CrazyCat version as that's pretty up to date.  I'll try and take a look at some point in the next couple of days to establish which version is which though.  Changing it is not an easy task for a number of reasons though.

I'm guessing the plugin is using 4.0.11 because:

- 4.0.11 mentioned here https://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-quadHD#Firmware in the 'first tune' section

- firmware here updated over a year ago https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw

First link has got no connection to these DVB builds, 2nd link isn't the source of the firmware in these images, although after comparing the md5sum for the different builds I can confirn that it is 4.0.11  :D

I suggested earlier that you try the CrazyCat build, have you done so?

Checking the md5sum for CrazyCat firmware version and 4.0.25 it would appear it's the version you're looking for.
