methanoid
I have learned from my mistakes and am returning to unRAID. All my data is on NTFS drives. I wonder if (many reasons for this) I could format XFS drives and copy data onto them and then later import them into unRAID or MUST I format the drives in unRAID as XFS ?? Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
If all the partition layout and format options are identical to what unraid expects, they can be used no problem. How would it be easier that way? Maybe if you laid out more of your scenario we could help figure out the best options. Quote Link to comment
Squid
Note that if you add a drive already formatted to an existing array with parity, then unraid will clear the drive. So add them all at once with the parity drive, or issue a new config every time you add another drive But I do seem to recall that there is a specific partioning scheme required for drivers formatted outside of unraid that may not be the default on another OS Sent via telekinesis Quote Link to comment
methanoid
Thanks guys for the help. It looks like I have found some different solutions for my other (non unRAID) issues that means I should be able to bring empty drives to my unRAID build which will be easiest and what I prefer also. You can just let Unraid format the disk in the array which would eliminate any possible problems with partions and parity, and just copy your NTFS disks with Unassigned Devices or over the network. Are these NTFS disks currently installed in a Windows system? Windows won't be able to work with XFS disks anyway. See you changed your mind while I was typing, but posting anyway in case I said anything useful.😉 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Unraid will only accept disks formatted by Unraid or the UD plugin. 1 Quote Link to comment
