When this feature is not going to come soon, I will have to set up another storage system to migrate my data to bigger HDDs. But my next server then won't run on UNRAID again... what we’re doing now is creating multiple single disk XFS pools and utilizing snapraid to create a parity drive for said pools. It’s not ideal but allows for a round about unraid array for cold storage data.

The limitation is known before you buy it. You can't blame Limetech for that... You can you pools to do the HDD migration. Edited December 10, 20241 yr by dada051 adding pools idea

I bought Unraid almost 10 years ago. Following your logic, I should not expect any new features or updates until the end of time, even when technology and HDD sizes change? My statement that my next storage server would not run on Unraid was just a matter of fact. I'd love to stick with Unraid, but when I have to build a new storage server anyway (instead of being able to have two logical arrays on my existing server) then I might end up using another software.
December 10, 20241 yr It's been announced it will come, but when it does is unknown. You decide what's best for you accordingly. Edited December 10, 20241 yr by Kilrah

My logic is you can't blame Limetech for something that doesn't exist or for a limitation that exists when you buy the licence. I expect new features but I will not wait to reach the limit or the new feature that we don't know when it will arrive to changes disk size for example

Do you remember where you saw this annoucement? I am also looking for multiple arrays in Unraid, but I really hope that the anoucement was really about array pool, and not normal ZFS / btrfs pools. I cannot point you to specific posts, but this has been discussed many times on the forum by Unraid employees (and probably Tom ?). Perhaps also on a podcast ? It is not a question of 'if' but of 'when'.
March 18, 20251 yr tjb_altf4' I Hear Yeah, I Been Waiting For This Feature Of Multiple Unraid Arrays For A Long Time To' Every Time They Release A New Version V6.10.0, V6.11.0, V6.12.0, V6.13.0, V7.0.0, V7.1.0-beta I Get Excited To See If We Get multiple Unraid Arrays In This Version Only To Find Out That It Didn't Get Added Yet 😞 i really wish we could get a road map on releases like you could say V7.1.0 Will Have These 3 new Features, V7.2.0 Will Have Theses 3 New Features, V7.3.0 Will Have Theses 3 New Features so. That Way When We Are Looking For A Feature We Want We Will Know How Long Before We Get The One We Are Interested In That Would Be Really Great To Have Something Like That Thanks! 😎
March 19, 20251 yr Since it was announced and is still not released, one would assume that the developement needs more time than initially imagined. Having a public roadmap would not have make much difference. There would still have been more work to be done and either : the priority in the roadmap would have to be shifted (same result as today for the users) or every other feature that we had in the meantime would not have materialized waiting for the feature of the public roadmap (much worse result).
August 10, 2025Aug 10 While I have been on unraid for awhile now, I have just recently run into the 1 array (30 drive) limit. Pools are great for some things but the whole point of why I picked UNraid was to not be locked in a raid. When I bought my license, they advertised unlimited drives, not 1 array 30 drives. I'm really upset.

I'm really upset.Maybe you did not realise that the "Unlimited" referred to connected drives rather than drives in the main array? Having said that more than 28 drives in one array with only two parity drives seems to be getting a bit risk?Multiple Unraid arrays are still a road map item that Limetech have stated they are working towards for some time now . I expect they will be relabelled as 'pools' at that point as in many ways the Unraid type array will no longer be special as far as many capabilities are concerned.Note that you can already easily go way over the 30 drive limit if you are prepared to use Pools in either BTRFS or ZFS formats - I think the current limit that way is something like 60 pools of 30 drives although it is not something that I have really checked out as it is way beyond my needs.
August 11, 2025Aug 11 The wait is frustrating. This feature was telegraphed (though not officially confirmed) to be coming in 7.1 but was passed over. The capability appears to have been skipped in 7.2 as well.

August 11, 2025Aug 11 In the last video, they stated that work on improving the UI was prioritized as a way to facilitate the addition of multiple arrays in the future.
August 11, 2025Aug 11 Community Expert I suspect that the work to support multiple arrays has proven to be more than was perhaps originally envisaged. There is also the fact that work around getting ZFS support more solid has been significant. Limetech still seem to be upbeat about multiple array support arriving so I think it is just a case of completing all the steps they have identified for getting there with (hopefully) avoiding a breaking change to existing functionality

Sorry for the confusion.I believe the context was a survey of features most wanted by users. I could be wrong but I thought it was suggested that it would be added as the next major feature after ZFS was implemented (in 7.0). I've never known Limetech to promise unreleased features, but glad you have confirmed this here. Edited August 14, 2025Aug 14 by jortan
September 9, 2025Sep 9 +1 Please implement.I really want this feature also. Will use unprotected pool till it comes available.
November 10, 2025Nov 10 I hope to see it one day as well.. I'm running out of space and I'd rather add another shelf then have an unraid pool span two shelves(which seems ripe for problems). I have 24 drive bay cases so I'm maxed out at 22+2 parity. I looked at buying a 36 bay but it doesn't seem worth it either given how expensive they've gotten and much harder to quiet/cool. Being able to have multiple unraid pools though would simplify everything and make it where perhaps you could even fully spin down one and maybe have an active one and an archive one or something.
April 16Apr 16 I agree, i even seem to remember spaceinvaderone talking about this feature coming soon in one of his videos.I have bought a 60 x 6tb disk shelf f or a crazy low price and would love to make arrays for all my different data categories.Just 2 parity disks for 60 drives would be a nightmare. I would love to have this working as I don't want multiple raid arrays with discs spinning all the time.
