OsoPolar
HI Guys Just started my journey on Unraid and the help from the community is great. But today 1 of my new 8TB which passed a full preclear has started showing up with an error. I have checked all the cables they are fine I have tried cables that work on other drives, so I know they are fine. I have rechecked they are all seated correctly I am unsure why this has just failed! It say divice is disable contents emanulated click to spin down Has mixed message says passed but shows a Smart Error Edited February 15, 2020 by OsoPolar More Info Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
You should post the diagnostics instead of screenshots, but there's a pending sector so likely a disk problem, you can run an extended SMART test to confirm. Quote Link to comment
OsoPolar
HI Running test now here is sys log syslog.txt Quote Link to comment

OsoPolar
you mean the whole folder? Will this not have APIs of my dockers in them??? Quote Link to comment

No, the whole zip file 3 minutes ago, OsoPolar said: Will this not have APIs of my dockers in them??? No. No docker application template is ever included. Diagnostics are also anonymized by default to prevent things like share names etc from showing to anyone. Quote Link to comment
OsoPolar
here you go please note still running extended test it seems to be stuck on 10% for hours bearcave-diagnostics-20200215-1231.zip Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Since in the OP you only mention one disk I didn't notice at first that there are problems with two disks, the pending sector is from disk4, that's the one that looks to be failing, and the syslog confirms it was likely a disk problem., disk3 was already disabled since boot so we can't see what happened, but that one looks fine, extended test takes several hours, also start one for disk4 and when both finish post new diags. Disk 3 had a short and extended and passed fully Disk 4 passed pre clear but fails instantly on short Smart Test. Don't understand what you mean by this, disk is disabled but it's online and looks healthy, on the other hand and like suspected disk4 is really failing. Both disks 3 and 4 look empty, if there's no data there best way forward would be to do a new config without disk4 and sync parity. Quote Link to comment
OsoPolar
my issue is disk 3 has been on my system for over a week no issue. now it is not starting up when i reboot unraid??? OsoPolar
hi my unraid has been running with no issues for 14 days since i started to build it. Yesterday i added a oldish 2tb drive (disk4) that passed preclear. So i added it and on reboot disk 3 is not loading???? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Do you config disks 3 and 4 are empty? Quote Link to comment

OsoPolar
no this error started yesterday Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Like I already mentioned disk3 is just disabled, it still being detected and SMART looks fine, you need to re-enable it, you can't do that by rebuilding on top since disk4 is failing, but if both disks are empty like it looks like, you can just do a new config without disk4 and rebuild parity. OsoPolar
hi OK will do that still not understanding why disk 3 failed to load? Quote Link to comment

OsoPolar
DO i select none here Edited February 16, 2020 by OsoPolar Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
You can select all but then unassign disk4 before starting the array, also check that disk3 is correctly assigned, it should be. Quote Link to comment
OsoPolar
I have some confusion with what Unraid is showing. If i check the drives they are blank but on dashboard they look like data is in them Quote Link to comment
OsoPolar
Also double check with Krusader I do not want to lose any data but looks weird reporting from dashboard Quote Link to comment
itimpi
A small amount of space is used when you format a drive to create the structures for an empty file system. The values you highlighted look typical for that. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Yes, a few GB are normal for empty XFS, forgot to mention, it would be a good idea to replace/swap cables on disk3 just to rule them out in case it gets disabled again. Quote Link to comment
