  1. Have you tried moving the 710 to a different slot?
  2. I run both. Operationally, I can't tell the difference.
  3. Used for several years but pulled because I no longer need it. Asking $50 OBO + shipping (or pickup available in Houston - can be arrange for Dallas or Austin)
  4. You can setup Unraid without a display, but I didn't originally do it that way. I bought the cheapest video card I could find at the time (10?ish years ago, it was $30 or something) and I've had it in my server since then. It's currently on a 1x riser, because I literally only use it for emergencies (and haven't need it for that in at least 5 or 6 years).
  5. I have no idea about the details of the cards. They worked once flashed (flashed my own first time, bought 1 already flashed second time) - so I see no reason to dig further.
  6. 1) There is no AMD CPU that has a supported equivalent of quick sync. Quick sync only matters if you must transcode the video. My plex client natively plays the vast majority of my plex library, so very little transcoding is necessary. In general, a GPU is only required for Unraid if your specific activity needs a GPU.
  7. I literally picked a random one from the post linked. I ended up with 2x Dell H310 cards. They've worked since in every iteration of my server.
  8. You need an HBA card. It's controller for harddrives.
  9. My 14tb takes a little more than 24 60 hours, I think. #################################################################################################### # Unraid Server Preclear of disk YYYYYYYY # # Cycle 1 of 3, partition start on sector 64. # # # # Step 1 of 5 - Pre-read verification: [19:17:00 @ 201 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 2 of 5 - Zeroing the disk: [20:58:51 @ 185 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 3 of 5 - Writing Unraid's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 4 of 5 - Verifying Unraid's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 5 of 5 - Post-Read in progress: (68% Done) # # # # ** Time elapsed: 11:26:42 | Current speed: 192 MB/s | Average speed: 233 MB/s # # # #################################################################################################### # Cycle elapsed time: 50:01:45 | Total elapsed time: 50:01:46 # #################################################################################################### #################################################################################################### # S.M.A.R.T. 10. In the 10 years I've been using unRaid, I've had at least a dozen drive failures (HD & SSD) - but no issues with the thumb drives that I started with.
  11. Since you want to use the VM as a workstation, have you tested the web app outside of containers, on the VM, to see if the performance is the same?
  12. It's not a compatibility issue, it's a fake products issue.
  13. Probably not. I've never seen a backplane discussion that wasn't in the context of a specific case. You can check this out, though. I'm working on a modified version of it.
  14. No. IMO, 4k transcodes look like crap when nvec gets involved. You are better off storing a lower bit rate copy, that you made using cpu transcoding. Everything else has looked quite good though.
  15. I've not encountered anyone since my HTPC days that prefers a file browser for picking what to watch. I remember using different tools (jriver, media master?, wdtv, and more) and devices (popcorn hour, patriot, etc) just to get the nice library-like interface with covers and backgrounds and such - all of which Plex (and a few others) do by default now. I quit using a dedicated HTPC at least 8 years ago. I dismantled my home theater about 5 years ago. I now use a basic sound-bar and a 65" TV. For the Apple TV 4K, I use the plex client and it is ok. My TV is a TCL Roku from 2017. The Apple TV will not play the 92gig rip of Casino without buffering at all (via plex or itunes). The roku client built into my TV will. I think the equivalent device is the Roku Ultra that lists for $99 (although it is currently on sale for $70 right now). The problem is not the bitrate of the movie necessarily. The subtitle tracks and audio tracks have caused me far more headaches than the video.
  16. My roku tv has no problem playing my 4k UHD copy of Casino or Bridge Over the River Kwai, because it directly plays them. So the fact that they are pushing 50-80Mbps doesn’t seem to be an issue. If you need to convert or re-encode 4k and/or UHD material, the high end Ryzen processors are your best bet for quality and speed.
  17. Read the FAQ - it covers a lot of what you asked. You can also get a lot of info from this playlist on youtube.
  18. 2x 4GB Kingston Hyper Genesis 2x 4GB Crucial $25 shipped
  19. Includes: UAP-AC-Lite access point (pull from service about 6 months ago) - 802.11ac WiFi support, dual radio 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz POE injector and all mounting hardware UAP-AC-Lite Quick Start/Installation Guide
  20. Are the 2 new drives shucked drives (originally external drives that have been removed from the case)? Do you have another system you can use to test the new drives (or old drives as necessary)? I could be mistaken, but I only saw 2 drives in the syslog file. You can use the standard Linux commands to see how many drives the system has - something like fdisk -l should show you everything.
  21. Not an expert reading the logs but I only see 2 drives in the logs. Have you tried booting using a Linux DVD/USB and seeing if they show up? Are they shucked drives by any chance?
  22. You can try a couple settings in BIOS: PCIe Slot Configuration Initial Display Output - maybe specify the GPU slot Might need to check on 2700X compatibility, with regard to what that does for the PCIe slots.
  23. I'm looking to move from using 2 LSI based 8i cards in a very large tower case, to a small case + external drive box. I assume an LSI xxx16e or 24e should be what I'm looking for - is that correct? I see models like 9200, 9201, 9202, 9206, 9207 - what is the difference? I'm searching ebay atm, looking at 9206-16e under the assumption that will be a recommended version and I see prices all over the place from what appear to be well rated sellers. It's been a while since I bought my cards. Is that normal (literally $49 to $160 for what are described as server pulls)?
  24. You can verify it is the problem by hooking the drive back up to the usb/sata board that was attached to it in the housing - Or connect it to a molex to sata power adapter. If it powers up, you have your answer. If you're like me and could never get the kapton tape to stay in place: 1. using a molex to sata power adapter 2. cutting the appropriate wire on the sata power cable (it was easy to determine when I looked at the sata specification) (I modded most of my sata power cables to remove the appropriate wire)
