  1. I've tried a different enclosure with the same result - no SMART output. I've tried CrystalDiskInfo and Stablebit - no output from that drive. All my other external drives report SMART as expected.
  2. I have a questions related to one of my spare 4TB Seagate USB drives (by Samsung) that I have uncovered in a closet. It's in a third party USB enclosure. A complete surface scan with Stablebit hasn't found any errors. Except for a very strange one: the drive doesn't output any SMART info other than the basic attributes: model number, serial number, buffer size, speed and drive letter (checked with a couple of tools). Tried another USB enclosure - no difference. I've searched and couldn't find anything on what could be a problem.
  3. My thinking is that since a certain UPS brand has been designed to work with a certain software (PowerWalker UPS bundled with ViewPower in this case) and then that particular UPS has been found by trial to be compatible with another piece of software (apcupsd according to the reports above) then it made me to suspect that another unrelated brand of UPS' (CleanLine) that has also been designed to run on Viewpower must have a necessary signaling hardware configuration that might make it compatible with apcupsd. e.g. there is a number of different UPS brands built to utilize the same drivers. The blazer driver for one is known to work with numerous UPS brands. That was the basis for my assumption that the brands built to run on ViewPower might have the same driver compatibility. And if one of those brands found to be compatible with apcupsd then chances are the other brands from the ViewPower group could also be similar in its compatibility. ViewPower - https://www.power-software-download.com/viewpower.html CleanLine seems to be a purely regional brand. I couldn't find any information anywhere on its compatibility with either NUT or apcupsd.
  4. Hello there. I see that Bluewalker/Powerwalker UPS' come bundled with ViewPower UPS software. And according to what has been reported in this thread, Powerwalker UPS' should work just fine in Unraid on the built-in UPS driver. Would it be safe to assume that other no-name UPS units bundled with ViewPower from the factory will also be recognized by Unraid? e.g. CleanLine UPS (by PowerMatic). Thanks
  5. Scanned the drive with StableBit scanner. Upon completion it has warned me of problematic 8 sectors (as in the prior to the scan SMART report) and then offered me to recover damaged files. I agreed. StableBit seemed to have no problem reading those 8 presumably damaged sectors and recovered the file. And now SMART shows green. Reallocated Sectors, Current pending sector and Uncorrectable sector counts all show 0. 1) Does it mean that the initial SMART was false positive? 2) What could be possible reasons for SMART throwing false positives? Thanks.
  6. Over the last few years I have acquired 4 Seagate 8TB drives, which are still in their USB enclosures. All drives are full. I consider transferring all their data to my brand new Unraid machine and then adding them to the array. Here's the list: ST8000AS0002 - green SMART ST8000DM004 - green SMART ST8000DM004 - green SMART ST8000DM004 - yellow SMART: C5 Current Pending Sector Count - 8 C6 Uncorrectable Sector Count - 8 How serious is the SMART reporting result in the last one? I assume I shouldn't even consider adding that one to the array? Thanks!
  7. Am I being wrong to conclude that Seagate 8TB shingled drives work perfectly fine in the typical Unraid environment (write once/read many)?
  8. Just in case... I don't know if you're familiar with a hot mess that the power supply marketplace has become... There's a lot of overpriced PSU junk out there, deceptively marketed even by some well-known brands, and outright garbage made by the unknown ones. Choose wisely (through research).
  9. I don't think the size is a deciding factor here. e.g. just from my personal observation, on average, my USB 3.0 drives tend to run noticeably warmer than any of my USB 2.0 drives. And my small factor USB 2.0 drives don't run any warmer than their bigger USB 2.0 brethren.
  10. Unfortunately it's not as simple anymore. The above-mentioned "trusted" manufacturers are not manufacturing all of their models in house (and some don't make anything themselves at all). They outsource manufacturing of at least a portion of their products to third parties. Even Seasonic does that. As far as I know there's only a few of PSU brands that don't outsource - Super Flower (maker of EVGA) is being one of them. Super Flower was totally unknown in North America. Until very recently, they have been contracted by EVGA to supply PSU's for the N.A. market. They've been sold and marketed as EVGA units. Now that the deal is over, Super Flower has started to market PSU's under its own name. btw, even Super Flower's lowest product lines are super problematic. IMHO. if you're in the market for a new PSU, you should spend some time reading reviews on the hardware dedicated forums. This is a very dynamic market and even the most trustworthy brands can not be blindly trusted anymore. They're constantly adjusting their product lines and switching third party partners. Making it even worse, there are examples of the exact same PSU models that significantly vary in quality due to being sourced from different third-party manufacturers. That's when the reviews could be of a tremendous help. As a part of the reviewing process the PSU's are being taken apart and closely examined, including the inner components. Then tested. IMHO it's unwise to buy any model without checking those reviews first, regardless of the brand.
