  1. After 12 hours it had only transferred 500GB with an estimated finishing time of over three weeks. I decided to rebooted the server which reset the re-build, but the reboot improved the transfer rate dramatically. I have no idea what was slowing down the transfer rate, but after reboot I stopped all docker containers and did not start any VMs.
  2. What could be causing such slow transfer rate during a data-rebuild (HDD upgrade from 4TB drive to 12TB drive)? When the data-rebuild was started, it was showing 180MB/sec transfer rate, but it quickly dropped to under 20mb/sec, and dropping as low as 3MB/sec. As noted below, it will take days, not hours, to rebuild the drive. 3. I am able to boot Windows Tiny-11 setup iso and start the Windows's setup, but it does fails to find any drive to install WIndows. It appears to be missing a device driver to dected the VM disk I created using unraid (Add VM) Where can I find the required device driver?
  4. Thanks for this thread. I am about to upgrade a similar hardware configuration. I shall be going from 4TB drive config to a 12TB config. Currently I have 2x4TB parity drives, 3x4TB data drives. Existing array is 80% full out of 12TB total. I will be upgrading to 2x12TB parity drives, 1x12TB data drive (new), 3x4TB data drives(existing array). My plan is to replace both parity drives one drive at a time, then add the new 12TB data drive to the existing array of 3x4TB drives. The config also has 1TB NVMe cache drive, 64gb ram. 5600 6 core AMD CPU If there is any further information I need to know, please advise.
  5. Currently I have a 4TB drives unraid configuration. If I were to step up, what HDD size would be recommended? The use cases is home data and Plex media that currently is about 11TB in size, growing at 1-2 TB per year. I have a total capacity of 12 TB (1x4TB parity, 3x4TB data, 1x1TB NVMe cache) I don't want to go too large and over pay for storage that will go unused for at least a couple of years. I could go to 8TB drives, but I am wondering it would be cost effective to jump to 12TB drives. Starting with 1x12TB parity, and 1x12TB data plus some of the existing 4TB HDDs. I have already had one data drive fail, and unraid has proven to work as promised.; the system continues to work without interruption as if there has not been an HDD failure.
  6. Yea, that was first place I looked and nothing obvious was showing up. However, I did isolate the problem to my login profile. It was taking me upto 40 minutes to logout and about the same to login. When I switched profiles to a newly created account, there wasn't any problem. It is likely related to the fact that I had moved my user profile to another drive other than the "C:" drive. Technically that should not be a problem, but I learned many years ago not to alter Windows default system settings unless there is good reason. It remains unknown why this problem is isolated to logon\logoff, and have no problems using Windows 10 once logged on.
  7. I have been having this problem for several months, when I start\reboot a Windows 10 VM, the VM hangs for 22 minutes after I enter login pass key. After 22 minutes the desktop appears and windows works without any further problems. Is there anywhere in Unraid or Windows where I can look to help debug what is causing the Windows 10 VM to hang for 22 minutes? Typically this is related to a driver hanging, but I have not been able to track down any failed driver because everything works fine after the Windows desktop appears. tower-diagnostics-20221207-0043.zip
  8. The only difference is that new 5600G has graphics onboard the CPU; everything else is the same between the CPUs. No other hardware\software is being changed or upgraded. Is there anything I need to know in advance or documentation I should read before changing the CPU? The objective is to configure unraid to display video using onboard video on the back of motherboard. Currently I have an NVIDIA GTX 1060 card install and everything works as expect. By using the onboard video for unraid, it will free up the NVIDIA card to be used by a VM.
  9. I am just curious why Slackware was selected for unraid. No implied judgement. Its been around since the early 90s and at the time Slackware was the first Linux distro I heard about other than Redhat.
  10. Using docker I am running a Screeps game server and I would like to SSH into it. How would I do it since the ip address of the Screeps server is the same as my unraid server.
  11. I guess I will hold off on buying a RTX card. I love my unRaid server and have no regrets purchasing and using it. My over all feature request (not a complaint) is to make GPU passthrough much more plug-n-play. Getting my GTX card to work took 2+ hours to track down the pass-through config info to make it work. Thank You Space Invader One for providing much of the info needed. It still took more meta data mining to fix the very bad audio quality coming out the HDMI port on the GTX card.
  12. Thanks. To clarify, if rebooting the unraid server and stopping\starting the array does not bring the drive back online, I will need to follow the wiki instructions to Rebuilding a drive onto itself? I want to make sure I do this correctly to avoid the lose of data.
  13. The power cable to Drive 3 became disconnected. That as been corrected, but Drive 3 remains disabled. I have looked at other topics, and so far I have not found a solution. See attached Diagnostics and Drive info. I am pretty sure the drive is OK. I can't find any errors in the logs, but I do not fully understand all the info in the logs. Currently the SMART extended self-test is 80% complete with no error being reported. The shorter version of SMART self-test passed. I have rebooted the server a couple of times and stopped\started the array, but Drive 3 remains disabled. When a device is disabled, what must be done to enable it? I am also trying to figure out why Bluetooth is not working in Windows 10 nor Windows 11, but that is a lower priority right now. Just throwing it out there in case someone sees something obvious in the diagnostic files. tower-diagnostics-20220709-0133.zip Hitachi_HDS724040ALE640_PK1331PAGB8G1V-20220709-0133 disk3 (sdc) - DISK_DSBL.txt
  14. Thanks. That does appear to be problem. The mouse intermittently works. I used another mouse and the problem appears to be resolved.
  15. Everything has been working perfectly for several months until last night when suddenly my mouse stopped responding while I was using windows 10 VM with video, keyboard, mouse pass-through. I first rebooted the VM which did not resolve the problem with the mouse. I then rebooted the entire unRaid server. When I attempted to start the windows VM I got the error: did not find USB device. I now get the same error with a Windows 11 VM with hardware through. See attached diagnostics what further troubleshooting suggestions can I use to isolate the problem? By the way, I did boot the unRaid server into UI mode and the mouse was working fine. tower-diagnostics-20220705-1827.zip
  16. WOW... Reading this threat was like somekind of Fast-Forward from the TV series LOST. I agree with comments above, I was expecting the format option to be with the new HDD. IMO, the current implementation is not intuitive or logical. Just my feedback, not something worth debating.
  17. Yes, this is helpful. Recently I wanted to add a new 4TB HDD, but could not shut down the array. I spent at least a couple of hours trying to solve the problem including booting into Unraid's WebGUI mode. Finally isolated it to one VM that was not shutting down as part of stopping the array, so I just went into the Unraid's WebGUI and manually issued the VM do a clean shutdown. The VM respond and did a normal shutdown, and finally the array went off line so that I could add the new HDD. I have no idea why the VM would not shutdown as part of stopping the array, but quickly did clean shutdown when using Unraid's VM "stop" command (not a forced shutdown). It was a VM that did have some hardware passthrough, such as GPU.
  18. When selecting Main->Stop to shut down the array, does it automatically shut down all running Docker images and running VMs? Or, is it required that Docker images and VMs be manually shut down prior to stopping the array? Not asking about making sure data is saved prior to stopping the array; that is a given.
  19. EDIT: Solved. There was a VM still running. Once ALL VMS and Docker images were stopped, I was able to shut down the array. I have a new 4TB drive I want to add to the array, but when I attempt to stop the array, "Stopping services..." hangs. No Docker images are running No VMs are running Main->Stop array: Results: All array buttons are disabled or non responsive. Only way to return array to normal operation is to do a (clean) reboot. syslog: May 31 01:22:06 Tower kernel: mdcmd (36): nocheck cancel May 31 01:22:07 Tower emhttpd: Spinning up all drives... 20. ATM, I can not locate the console command to shut down the array related services. I am having the same, or similar problem; when stopping the array the log shows stopping services and then endlessly waits. The Web UI shows that array has stopped, however it is not possible to make changes to the array nor is it possible to restart the array through the WebUI. I force a clean reboot. My objective is to a new HDD. Everything else working without error.
  21. I did not build this game controller myself; it came fully assembled from Microcenter. I did put together the Unraid system with the help of Space Invader One videos. I am passing through all the USB hardware that is possible. As shown above, the two Baolian devices and SimpleTech Touro Desk 3.0 are internal parts of the game controller (1 USB hub, 1 USB HID keyboard device, 2 HID mouse compliant devices). The two mice devices are the spinner and trackball, they work as expected when passed through. A single USB cable connects the game controller to the PC. This is a plug-n-play device, uses existing drivers and no additional software is required for the game controller to work with arcade games (ie MAME). I can't figure out why the buttons are not being recognized as keyboard keys
  22. Atari Fight stick with spinner and trackball Version: 6.10.0-rc8 When I connected this universal game controller to Unraid Windows 10\11 vms set to passthrough. The gaming buttons are not recognized. The spinner and mouse work as expected. Internally this gaming device has a USB hub with three USB devices connected. The gaming buttons are hardware mapped as keyboard keys on a standard USB HID Keyboard device. The spinner is a mouse device, and trackball is another mouse device. To verify the game controller works correctly I connected it to another Windows 10 system and a RasberryPi; both systems handle the game controller as expected: 1 USB HID keyboard and 2 USB mouse devices. Plug it in and it automatically uses the standard keyboard driver and standard mouse driver. The Unraid MSI motherboard BIOS recognizes the game controller correctly. When plugged into a USB port the BIOS adds 1 Keyboard, 2 mouse, and 1 hub devices. This is in addition to the standard keyboard and mouse that is used for normal input. Here is what is being passed through. In the windows 10 device manager, the spinner and trackball show up as expected as additional mouse devices (HID-compliant mouse), but the additional HID-Keyboard Device is missing. Any ideas or suggestions as to why the additional HID-Keyboard Device is missing, yet the spinner and trackball both appear as mouse devices and work correctly?
  23. When a Windows VM is not running, what changes to the virtual hardware will invalidate Windows activation? I want avoid making false assumptions. Currently I assuming the following virtual hardware can be change without invalidating Windows: Ram storage - HDD, SSD, etc generic hardware devices -display, video, audio, mouse, keyboard, etc. What about changes to: BIOS Networking CPU or xml hacks\changes made to get passthrough devices to work such as video cards.
  24. Hyper-V is likely to be the best choice, but see this post: FAQ: Can I convert my VMWare virtual machine to run on unRAID ? My recommendation is simply to install Windows 11 from the official Windows 11 setup ISO from MS Website, and then follow SpaceInvader One video. This process requires Unraid 6.0.10-RC2 (or later). His channel has excellent Unraid videos.
