  1. Yeah this WD warranty policy is being talked about all over the internet. It is really unfair.
  2. all of you with samba issues, are you positive you did NOT set up users for write access in unraid? You are still able to connect to your unraid shares in this case, but are unable to make modifications due to samba security. Try maping the share as a drive and connect to it using your credentials set up in unraid if you had done that. I think this version of unraid configures samba incorrectly where it alows you to still connect with invalid cradentials but with only readonly access.
  3. EDIT: Nevermind. I am loving this version so far. The features in the 5.0 series allowed me to ditch my unraid on full slackware and now I can have what I want with just the stock and addons.
  4. I don't see how anyone in their right mind would consider this a good deal for these reasons: -It's a Seagate -Only a 1 year warranty -2TB drives can be half this price
  5. Hi, I hope this is in the right forum. I am running unraid on a full linux distro and am having some issues after updating to the most recent unraid 5.0-rc8a. no matter what, the web interface will not work on first boot or first start-up of emhttp. I can kill emhttp and launch it again and then it will work. I can even launch another emhttp instance without killing the first so there are two running and it will work. Just for some reason the first time it is launched it will not display the web interface. I have looked through the logs and can't find anything strange. I can easily have the startup script set to launch emhttp, kill it, then launch it again and that works. But it is a dirty sollution. Any ideas what the cause could be? EDIT: I think I am just going to use unRAID the normal way from the USB drive now and stop with the full distro. Hopefully I will still be able to add my custom udev triggers. So disregard this question, I no longer need an answer.
  6. Shouldn't be anything wrong with selling it. It should be a basic human right to be able to sell off something you no longer need.
  7. Hahahaha!!! Wow, people really are insane. I'll give you $80 for it and that's my final offer!
  8. Yes, but it only does it based on the temperature of the hard drives you specify in the script if that is what you want. Linux calls it PWM no matter which type you have, 3 or 4 pin. I'm using the script with 3 pin fans. No you don't have to start the service, just make sure the modules it found are loaded on boot up.
  9. When I click on a data drive it says: Partition format: MBR: unaligned File sytem type: unknown Is it supposed to say filesystem type unknown? Other than that, the main page states my configuration is valid. This was from upgrading from 4.5.4 to 4.7, verifying it still works, than then upgrading to 5.0 beta 11. EDIT: I guess I need to go to bed I see this was already answered just above. Sorry guys.
  10. Does anyone know where the php.ini file is that emhttp in this beta uses? Nevermind, looks like it is /etc/httpd/php.ini-dist
  11. Is it unmenu you are using? That will spin up drives.
  12. Yes. all those things are true. It just appears that people seem to think preclearing is a requirement. Much like the myth of "Burning in" a new system. I was just pointing out that it is not required.
  13. Nope, preclear is not a requirement or it would be part of unraid. I have never precleared any of my drives and they all work fine.
  14. It appears the consensus was that it is just too expensive to add an LCD just to control and show fan speed. "Temperature-based fan speed control for unRAID" without these front LCD units is easy to do and more importantly, it can be done for free.
  15. First of all, did you try unplugging the drives and rebooting with them removed again to verify they are the cause? And what is YOUR opinion on your strace. Do YOU see anything wrong there? Did you do basic things like make sure all your libraries are up to at least the versions that emhttp requires? You are not giving much information on what you have done.
  16. You missed the deal. Look at the date of this thread.
  17. Reminds me of when I go to a Chinese restaurant and all the references to "pork" are spelled "port".
  18. Not sure what a swat drive is... Care to explain?
  19. You will have the same problem with this Syncrify thing, if not more difficult. There is a huge thread in these forums that explains how to install Crashplan on unRAID as someone else has already mentioned.
  20. mrbens, I think if you map the share as a network drive windows will give you the option of using a different username. Otherwise it just uses the user you are logged in as on that windows PC. Windows is not a very robust operating system so you have to work around it's limits. So the easiest thing to do is make sure you are just setting up the same username on unraid.
  21. For some strange reason unraid lacks easy configuration for share authentication. Read up on samba, which is what is used to share your unraid data with other computers. Beware, samba is quite complicated. A little help on what you need to change: You will need to modify the smb.conf config file. -change share security from "share" to "user" (share level is very outdated and should not be used anyway) -you need to add a user to samba and set a password for that user -there are also a few options you need to change for the shares; guest access, read/write and so-on What you want is very possible but not easily done with what unraid gives you. A little disappointing for $70 minimum.
  22. I find it sad that there are so many in society that feel it important to restrict information because they do not agree with it. The world would be a much better place if information was free and if you didn't agree with such information you just ignored and avoided it. But sadly, I live in a world where some want to keep others in ignorance "for their own good". I am sure that if Newegg didn't make money from NEWCUSTOMER10 they would stop making it available. On the other side, I personally do not agree with having to send in rebate forms to get money back on something. To me that is offensive but you don't see me condemning every person who sends in a rebate form.
  23. That is probably because the drive is already formatted, is it not? If everything is cleared off the drive then no reason to format it. That's like remodeling your whole home, and then tearing it down and rebuilding it again. To your last question, yes you can use the command line to format the drive. But it is not needed as it will not find any problems. Do as Joe suggested and use the preclear script if that is what you are trying to do.
  24. Very nice job there. Lots of work went into this nice little case. Too bad they don't make cases that don't need any modifications at a reasonable price. Did that power supply come with the case? I assume you had to move it to make room for the icy-dock?
