  1. Hello, I have acknowledged the error, which changed from 0 to 1 If the disk trips again that would be concerning to replacing the disk? This disk is on the LSI SAS 9211-8i breakout cable. their not easy cables to swap (I'd have to order new breakout cables). Is it advisable to replace the cable or just the disk (If the errors continue to rise) udma crc error count returned to normal value array health report [PASS]
  2. Awesome man! This is great info and good work on your part. I will be attaching another disk soon as I am cleaning up disk currently. I have updated UD as per your recommendation. Appreciate the insight and assistance!
  3. I will use SSH to 'umount' for the time being. Seems to work just fine. Weird that I can't via the GUI. Maybe a disk issue, I am puzzled.
  4. No problemo. I performed another reboot and attempted to mount and unmount the disk. Unmount is grayed out. I wonder if it is a partition issue with the disk Jun 12 16:57:29 ntfs-3g[8897]: Mounted /dev/sda2 (Read-Write, label "6TBDUMP", NTFS 3.1) Jun 12 16:57:29 ntfs-3g[8897]: Cmdline options: rw,noatime,nodiratime,nodev,nosuid,umask=000 Jun 12 16:57:29 ntfs-3g[8897]: Mount options: rw,nodiratime,nodev,nosuid,allow_other,nonempty,noatime,default_permissions,fsname=/dev/sda2,blkdev,blksize=4096 Jun 12 16:57:29 ntfs-3g[8897]: Global ownership and permissions enforced, configuration type 1 Jun 12 16:57:29 unassigned.devices: Successfully mounted '/dev/sda2' on '/mnt/disks/6TBDUMP'. This disk is a swap disk while i organize data I can always format it when I am done, perhaps that's why it's having a concern.
  5. Pass Thru is disabled, never toggled it. Been using UD as I always have. Mount, copy, unmount.
  6. I have restarted the server and I can try again later on. Never has been an issue before, started to do it on this disk today however. Mount log: Jun 12 11:57:31 UnRAID unassigned.devices: Successfully mounted '/dev/sdo2' on '/mnt/disks/
  7. Hello, I have been using UD often lately as I am cleaning up my disks. Recently I have been able to mount disks, and not unmout them. When they are mounted, the unmount button via the GUI is grayed out and cannot be selected. If i power off the drive, the drive becomes mountable and 'mount' is selectable. However unmount remains grayed out Has anyone ran into this concern before? I cannot pull any logs as the drive is mounted and there is no ability to unmount it, seems strange? Is there a manual method I can use to unmount via SSH?
  8. OK. Usually these toggles are clickable to unmount. I will post there.
  9. Is this still the 'proper method' when formatting an existing disk in the array? To format XFS disk: Stop Array Select disk in question > Change XFS to another format > Select Apply Start Array > format disk Stop Array Select disk in question > Change FS back to XFS > Select Apply Start Array > format disk Thanks,
  10. Thank you, and yes, I have had notification setup for years :-)
  11. Thanks for your input. I am juggling the thought if I do or don't. Dual parity may be a year out still, to match the 10TB disk. I am often monitoring my server daily if not, weekly, and review SMART, and if there are any error counts within the 'main' tab menu. Generally if I see SMART or errors start to populate (as it has happened in the past) I immediately swap the disk as soon as I can. Trying to think if I burn another 10TB on dual parity setup for the satisfaction and protection. I have some thinking to do on that empty drive bay, as I do have some 4TBs sitting around after this upgrade that are not being used. Never a bad idea to have hot swap available for the current 4s in the array currently. I will think on it. Thanks again!
  12. OK. Good to know when running dual parity, both parity disks need to be as large or larger then the largest, so same rules apply. I thought I could get away with a smaller disk as parity2, now thinking about it, that wouldn't make sense. Now the decision time. Do I run single parity, or dual parity, hmm hmm
  13. Hello, I have read through some of the posts here and got lost in some of the conversations. Thought to reach out on this topic as I am in the middle of an upgrade. I will try to keep this short and simple Current array size in disk - 11 disk total Current chassis physical drive bays - 12 disk total Parity was upgraded successfully from 6TB to 10TB Disk 3 was upgraded (currently rebuilding) 4TB to 10TB I currently have 1X physical drive bay OPEN for one of the following purposes that I was considering: 01. Dual parity (add another 10TB disk in the future) 02. Data disk (add more storage space) **If i go with option 01, does the second parity disk need to match @ 10TB or can it be 8,6,4,etc?** As there are many experienced users in the community, and what you would recommend? Option 01 or Option 02? Being my array is not large in physical disk (currently 11 disk), would dual party would be worth wild? As disk size in the world today has improved, I am remaining with this chassis at the 12X drive bay limit. Suggestions (if you were me)? Thanks,
  14. Thanks for the prompt response. I 'canceled' the party rebuild (4 hours in) and ran a 'new config' I have adjusted the drives accordingly
  15. Good to know on the schedule side, I will keep on using monthly checks. They are active often as media content is accessed from a higher ratio of disk. I maintain and have UnRAID GUI up daily. I often keep an eye on performance and monitor for errors. Generally in the past when I have had any error reporting (within the error section on the main tab) I swap disk almost immediately. Rarely do I ever have an unclean shut down as the server is on redundant UPS, hooked up to USB cable to perform a clean shut down if battery levels get low during and unforeseen power outrage. Update: Thank you for your instructions. 10TB Party is in (rebuilding) 4TB (disk 7) is pulled A quick question, and this is not a big deal. As disk 7 is non-existent the GUI displays disk 6 and disk 8. Will this always be the case going forward? Is there any way to align disk so they are in order (disk 8 becomes the new disk 7)? No biggie if not, as it may throw the array out of wack, or may not be able to be adjusted as that's how the cfg is setup. Thanks,
  16. Morning, OK perfect, so my steps are setup correctly. Parity was checked yesterday. I run parity on a schedule every month on the 1st of each month, perhaps that's too much? As for pre-clear, I had thought it was recommended with new disk & unknown (this was going years back I read this). The 6YB is healthy, and SMART is good to go across all disk, as well as error free. I did dive down into the SMART reports and there are no flags I can see. I am going to be starting this upgrade momentarily. Wish me luck. Thank you again!
  17. I have completed the chassis move with no issues last week and everything is running perfect. I am on my monthly parity sync today, this will be the last one before the swapping begins. Going to let this complete and begin the upgrade. Please don't knock your head off the table, I drew up your instructions as stated to finalize. Let me know if I am out by any steps. 01. Stop UnRAID 02. Settings > Disk Settings > Auto-Start = NO 03. Power Down 04. Physically pull Disk 7 out of server 05. Physically Replace parity (6TB) with new parity (10TB) 06. Power up (auto start is disabled) 07. Tools > New Config > Keep Current Assignments > Apply 08. Main page > Assign new parity 10TB (and confirm all other disk match previous setup) 09. Allow parity to finish 10. Complete From here I can change/swap disk out as needed, doing (1X) parity sync, each disk swap. **Since I am using my ol 6TB parity as a data disk moving forward, and it was pre-cleared before adding it to the array at the beginning of its life, is it advisable to pre-clear it again before adding it as a data disk, or is it good to go as is? Thanks :-)
  18. Much appreciated. Good point to, why rebuild parity twice. Sorry to draw this out so much. I know there are people in the community with really good experience and ability to share knowledge. I appreciate everyone that is apart of UnRAID. Teaching one another of best methods to complete tasks. Thank you for the followup everyone, it brings ease to this project. If any other questions pop up as I am preparing for this, I will post back. Thank you so much!
  19. Hello again, I am making progress and soon to be moving my UnRAID to a new chassis. I have taken a screenshot of my current disk list from the UnRAID GUI so I can match serial numbers to disk slots for reference while i am doing this project. Before I move my hardware to a new chassis, UnRAID only needs to know via GUI which disk is in which slot, correct? I don't need to physically hook them up to the same SATA ports during the move? Correct me if I am wrong. To reiterate my process, I have decided to do it in steps rather then combining steps, as stated in previous posts above. My first step is to remove disk 7 completely from the current array in production presently, which would leave a physical slot open for future dual parity: To remove disk 7 from my current production array: 01. Stop UnRAID 02. From the 'Main' menu > Disk 7 > unassigned 03. Tools > New Config > Keep Current Assignments > Apply 04. Main > Start Array 05. Will my array come back online without disk 7, giving me the ability to physically remove the disk? *please add any notes or comments to this* Disk Upgrading / Swapping: 01. Shut down server 02. Physically remove Parity Disk @ 6TB 03. Physically replace parity disk with 10TB 04. Power on server 05. UnRAID should detect new disk, assign new parity (10TB) 06. Start array 07. Allow parity to rebuild. I think the above is my best method? Once disk 7 is physically removed, and new parity is rebuilt, it should be rinse and repeat to upgrade and swap the remaining disk until I have completed the process. Added note: all disk in the array have been previously precleared, and new disk is precleared. Since I am moving current UnRAID disk and re-using disk that had data on them, do I need to re-run another preclear on the disk I am swaping and re-using? Current parity = 6TB > replacing with new 10TB precleared Disk 7 = removing from array physically Disk 8 = 3TB > replacing with new 10TB precleared drive Disk 11 = 2TB > replacing with 6TB old parity (was precleared before adding to array in the past) Sorry for the length, I am always afraid of losing data or making a mistake during the removal of disk. Need a refresher. Thoughts? Thanks,
  20. This is wonderful. I appreciate everything and everyone contributions. I am looking to 1. recreate the docker.img and 2. backup all docker related data. I generally do regular backups of data and would like to keep myself in a recoverable state. I do not have many dockers at this time very few actually but I know it is going to grow! I will take my time and run through each point stated here and be sure I have covered my bases to have a full recoverable docker instance if it ever comes to that. Thank you again!
  21. Oh ok. I suppose I need to investigate some more. As far as how I was looking at it, when you deploy a container it deploys to /appdata/*****/ So if I lost my cache, or flash, or deployed a new unraid server etc. and needed to revert/restore somehow. This is why I was focused on the appdata folder as I assumed I would need to have a backup of my app data
  22. Right, I saw that section, not the app I am assuming 'CA Appdata Backup/Restore Andrew Zawadzki' is the app you're referencing?
  23. Thank you for your assistance. I attempted linuxserver version (2015) first and it prompted a server error when I attempted to start it the binhex did not. I can understand the frustration, I knew as soon as I responded the 'smh' was understandable. Copy that on the troubleshooting steps and outlook. Its been a long few days on this. Long story short I made some successful progress tonight, but good things came of it. Continue some more tomorrow.
  24. import/restore my containers I meant. I thought appdata was my container info. I didn't have luck searching 'previous apps' within the apps section to install it. I have CA Appdata Backup/Restore but it looks like it is no longer updated I am getting some strange docker logs and thought it may be good to make a new image and restore my current containers and settings. Wanted to know the proper process and correct app to get being I cannot find previous apps
