  1. Where did the dust come from ? Eliminate at source. Put a huge hepa filter infront of the case. My personal kinky preference goes as far as to submerge the most parts in a solution with antistatic chemicals, spray and wipe with antistatic products. Right now in my room I have 3x hepa air filters. I have 1x hepa robot vacuum in the premises auto scheduled. I control airflows through out the entire apartment block of 30x apartments to eliminate dirty air coming in the apartment. Some dirty vehicles were parking near my windows and I sabotaged that 3x ways some lawful some not so. No humans or hard drives were harmed. Yet. I bribed the authorities to sabotage dirty vehicles and dust creating construction work, that the wind could sometimes blow this way. I put extreme outgoing fans that I had to import from exotic places and custom hotwire. I rebuilt the chimney system in the apartment block to increase airflow. I killed an expensive HVAC system and an expensive heating system that were contributing to dirty air. I put sensors for 4x types of pollutants and automated extreme outgoing turbines that cause the building to shake when they turn on. I bought cleaning services of 2x sexy-ass maids and put them "on rotation" However I just let the dust collect in the machine until it starts showing problems from the dust such as temperatures. I clean the machine only when it starts underperforming or smelling.
  2. The bottlenecks in such projects is developers. Best to get a big number of motivated developers onboard, with the ability to improve upon the system. The business can align to this bottleneck. Corps do it all the time this is the main thing they do the cheeky ba$tard$. I am too lazy to explain it. It's based on 'projections' and plays with 'demand' and later makes money. There is no 'philosophy' behind those concepts the main philosophy distills to "don't be evil" which can translate to "protect humans" in the process of making the cash. But that Mark Shuttleworth guy is a reasonable dude I gather and an enthusiastic as well. So a Just Do It may work as well no need to do the math first.
  3. So for your need you can go with a VM and passthrough the GPU bro. I doubt it all the devs along the chains can sync to new hardware and new encoding so quickly unless Intel do it for them. And that software endeavor sounds risky. Much less risky to stick to mainline kernel and instigate fights with all kinds of corps and devs, whenever something is not working as expected. It's a tricky thing the Intel thing they also speed it up with Re-BAR I don't know what happens to that with GPU passthrough? Further to the Intel thing, they have the CPU acceleration what they call it media something.... deep-link, bro. However bro I have checked that and the best encoding is H266 on CPUs it's suficciently better than av1 interestingly. But most decoders don't have it at all. I stress on CPUs same goes for av1 the quality for filesize is on CPUs not on GPUs. The GPU encoding makes bigger files.
  4. Don't you want it more indestructible? It's so tiny it can live in RAM and sync to a USB as needed.
  5. Boot USB didn't remount correctly upon reinserting. I bumped it by accident when I was doing a hazardous experiment with a USB to IDE to SATA I just hotwired and hotglued together from junk parts. was /dev/sdb but then became /dev/sdp I think it is ESXi that can handle reinserting the USB not sure about other systems probably openwrt some BSD based freenas pfsense that's an interesting security dilemma. He he. In any case the NAS is inoperable, can't start the Array or install plugins when the USB flash fails. Therefore this is an architectural dilemma what happens when the boot drive fails. 😐
  6. That's for you to ponder on until you learn many things throughout the course of your entire life. Until then it is upon yourself to bring facts to an arguments and no bullsh.t.
  7. It's trivial bro. Remove some NICs from the bonding on the host (unRAID) and add the freed NIC to the VM to be available as second NIC on the Guest VM (W2019) This can be done by PCI-e passthrough, if the host has vt-d technology. If it does not have that you can setup a secondary bonding on the host to add a virtual NIC on the Guest. If you have ICMP Ping you can have AD working. But that's child play, why do you want to do this on the unRAID machine? Wouldn't it be better to do this on the Clouds free tiers? No business is going to ask you to sedup AD on unRAID for them, it's risky. They like the TCO of the clouds.
  8. Same problem here, in reverse. I am sharing NTFS shares and the NTFS hidden files are hidden by Samba.
  9. Error message screenshot ?
  10. I am writing to express my extreme overwhelming everengoulfing neverending 24/7/356 forever rage about how slow the MAIN page is when UD plugin loads the disks stuff. Why is it so and how to fix it ? Thanks.
  11. Yes The log is full. Fix that as well. I fix this like this I doublecheck these OC Cooling Power and power cables sata cables HBA card firmwares After fuzzing with these such issues disappear until next time I touch something such as Add a disk. booting into memtest is not a real memtest because the power management is different than the loaded OS. He he he.
  12. Did your revert that CFG file change from earlier? Or do that again to let it readjust it. It may be that as well. And the monitor is connected at the same port at the graphics card ? Sometimes BIOS is weird with graphics output selection and remembering it on reboot. If it's the same hdmi port, Try the following - power down, remove power cable, push power On button to clear capacitors. Power back On. If it didn't work, try this - get into bios and re-adjust the graphics card selection. Switch to onboard, save, start the system, then back to PCI-e.
  13. dev_guy Bro bro bro bro bro this is not how finding faults work in complex layered systems. Why are you arguing like this. Relax and let them be wrong. WHAT ARE THE FACTS bro ? Can you do lower level fact checking? DO NOT FIGHT THE software author that's my job he he he. Tell him in what situation what happened, his job is to figure out to see if his software can somehow help with it. Let's see the facts unRAID - CRC erros FreeNAS BSD - no CRC erros what is different? Quite a lot actually. The things that have to do with power management are different. Including CPU microcode and many parameters about each chip in the system starting with the CPU. I vote move unRAID to Ubuntu based.
  14. Further to this, I want to express my extreme rage, that it's not based on Ubuntu. If it were, it would have the kernel already as well as even better power management. I propose two flavors one older kernel one latest kernel and free switching between the two.
  15. I also have problems with SAS2008 based cards sometimes. What have changed every small detail can give clues? What have changed while moving to the new case? How do you handle loosening connectors and SATA power cabling? Any OC ? Try replacing the SATA cables.
  16. Let's do it easier? Disable "include in stas", if the controllers (and PCI-e speeds) are limiting the storage device? Treat USB as normal HBA. Further streamline and simplification optimization proposal integrate with disklocation plugin. Further proposal put most on github and some - on lime-tech enterprise github.. if some needs to be still secret? No idea if this aligns with how they do.
  17. Cool it with a fan put some mx-4/5/6 and a copper heatsink if you have or a CPU heatsink if it fits etc etc mod the cooling and then try the different things. Let me know how it goes, I have the same, a NEC one flashed to supermicro firmware I think (whoever released the latest version). No it's Lenovo firmware. The battery is a fire hazard though but I am thinking for kinky reasons to keep on using the battery inside a fireproof bag. 😈
  18. I am writing to harshly criticize this plugin for not properly including USB connected HDDs and displaying them as flash drives. I am infuriated with hellfire rage. Is it on github so I can see where the problem is and click Assign Blame button ?
  19. So you need additional protection from unRAID Parity ontop of what ZFS already does for protection? Sounds kinky and experimental. Better respect the filesystem authors intentions and don't mix the two teams. I think the mix is already called btrfs. Depending on what you need that protection for, I am sure if you explain it, we can come up with the best safest and so on solution, without having to "virtualize" filesystems ontop of eachoter. Been there done that, it could work, but... not in production. The best protections are designed and pre-configured in a way that takes into account all combos between all fail scenarios across the protection layers. Failure mode and effects analysis is the process of reviewing as many components, assemblies, and subsystems as possible to identify potential failure modes in a system and their causes and effects. The issue is that how each layer works it's either guaranteed 100% and documented by the authors and you can understand and plan for it OR you will have to read the source code to fully understand and anticipate the logic (simulate the software in your head X the other layer X all failure modes permutations) ? Just tell us what you mean by that, why do you need that additional Parity
  20. I've read the first post and write to disagree. You just need the provisioning tool (MPTool) to be able to touch the firmware. usbdev ru have many and on Chinese sites every version circulation the Internet is shared so for sure it exists out there. I suspect however that those factory tools need 32bit XP and Intel chipset to operate properly. For the American bros who wanna check it - just use Edge and click Transalte to English this is the best translation for other languages. I would also like to point out that there is no reason why not to open communication channels to the Chinese dudes who make/use/modify these provisioning tools and the controller chip. If you want GUID or whatever it is that you want I think you should tell the factory dudes not Sandisk the corp that does not care about tech.
  21. I can do it but I don't wanna. I don't wanna write PHP.
  22. Bro for your own use - Unraid is better. For some very specific scenarios vmware is the correct tooling to invest into a project. What did you go with, in the end, and why ?
  23. I just put it on free hardware and I can still run stuff on it. I like that. I can also run one on a lsightly more expensive hardware to run even more stuff on it. I like that. I can show it off to my guests and they will sh.t their pants with delight. He heh ehhehe.
  24. So I want to run the Apps on a 1x SSD Arrray. What about "Pool" and extensibility? What if I want to add space to an existing Array with all my apps? I want to load the system with entertainment apps can you recommend what I can run on it? I would like to keep this system with this free hardware e8200 dual core OC undervolt 😎 "Array": 64gb ssd (40gb free after docker.img) 4gb ram + the rest of 20x fire hazard sata disks not yet in an array / pool until I do some data migrations - automatically tv series and movies ? - dvb stuff I can start with DVB-T2 and add dvb-c2 this will be very cool - for backups ? - other cool stuff maybe you can recommend? Can we browse the apps on the web ? So far I find them only inside the Unraid WebGUI ?
