  1. Hi Does anyone know how you can enable the Wake up on Lan on the connect X3 card on unraid. I usually put the server to sleep during periods when its not being used and re-awaken it using an app on my phone. I was able to do it on the ethernet port thats on the motherboard but cannot do it with the card. i have seen some instructions to enable it that are somewhat convoluted . Does anyone have anything simple that works.
  2. Hi has anyone found a solution to this as im having this issue as well. I have found this happen mostly when im transcoding 4k to a mobile device and the server randomly drops off. ive got reasonalble amount of fans in my compact unraid server. all noctua ones. generally my temps looks good unless the transcode is over heating the cpu and its just locking up,Ive got quite a chuncky noctua fan on the cpu too. im running a 13600k with 64gb ddr5 ram. Just had another crash , it looks like if im trying to transcode a large 4k movie which is uncompressed ie not X265 it seems to have a wobbler but cant see why as my setup should be more than capable of handling this. I also recently upgraded to 10gb connectivity with a 2.5gb feed going to my wireless router so it should more than capable of streaming to a wireless device.
  3. Evening so i have finally set everything up this evening so the way eveything is setup is the ethernet for my internet goes into a nicgiga cheap switch the same as yours mame and then i have an spf+ dac line that goes into the CRS305 switch(running switch OS). i then have two spf+ dac lines going to my main machine(windows 11) and my unraid server connected to via mellonox connect-x3 cards on both sides. I have flashed the latest firmware on both cards to ensure they are upto date. However the issue i have found is that i am not hitting the 1+Gigabytes a second 10gb is supposed to acheive. I seem to hover beween around 90mb to 700mb , mostly the lowest figure but cannot understand why. Both machines have a very fast nvme which is the WD SN850, unraid is set to write to nvme cache pool before moving to the array. Im i missing something.. why am i not able to hit the higher speed and hold it consistently instead of it dropping to double digits most of the time.Ive check in unraid and it says 10000mb full duplex and windows says my connection is 10gbs. I have also ran iperf and that stated that i had just under 10gb worth of bandwidth so unsure what im missing.
  4. Evening . So I received the x3 cards today, the next thing on the shopping list is the switch and the rj45 spf transceiver. Just had 1 quick question that I touched upon earlier. I've got my sights on crs305 and I'm planning to get a 10gb spf to connect my broadband feed with the switch. The switch will have a 10g connector but the broadband router only supports upto 2.5. Will it a negotiate okay and what speed will it actually run at ?
  5. no worries just wondering if you sourced them from elsewhere. I've found the deal you are referring uptop. just wanted to ask do you to have to use specific sfp transceivers with the card. I've read on another post you need a qsfp one. can you suggest a fibre aoc that will go with this card or would a standard dac be sufficient. Some of these cables are expensive and I don't want to order the wrong one.
  6. Where did you get it from mate?
  7. Would this work mate , Its x8 not not x4 but i know these guys are legit and they based not to far from me either. My motherboard on my main machine has 3 pci 4.0 x16 ports one of them has got my 3090 in it the rest are free. https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/mellanox-connectx-3-pro-mcx312b-xccs-dual-port-sfp-10gbe-fh-pcie3-0-x8-ethernet
  8. sorry as in i will only have 2 evices that will be 10gb abled. my work laptop is 1gb and i have a CAT 6A cable going to my internet router which is 2.5gb enabled. essentially i will be using all 4 ports on the switch. Im just looking at some mellanox cards, i noticed they selling them on Aliexpress for a reasonalble price but are they legit or do you have to look for ones exclusively pulled from a server. Its always minefield buying these type of cards as you never know if they are cheap replicas or the real deal.
  9. Cheers mate your advice is invaluable.. I'm going to start pricing this up and get ordering, going of that picture looks like your using a hell of a lot of fibre in your setup.. Does the 309 offer anything more over the 305 besides the additional ports. Also are you able to manage the switch via the sfp ports or do you have to plug something into the dedicated management port to access the management software?.
  10. Cheers mate i think im going to go for the CRS 305 its nice and compact, can support 10g accross all port and most importantly its cheap. I did look at the unifi flex switch which is close to £300 not factoring the cost of the nics.ive got some CAT 8 but i think im going to down the fibre route as its cheaper and lower latency.Im probably looking at two fibre dacs, and two RJ45 (1 running 10gb spf+ running at 2.5gb to start off with and one that can a be a gig). I assume based on your above comment that fibre isnt conducive to the same heating issues as RJ45 both on the switch side as well the nic.I need to find a decent spf+ nic that will work with windows 11 and of course unraid. Any recommendations?
  11. Its most likely going to be RJ45 though if theres other options im willing to explore them, i wouldnt mind exploring fibre in the future.I dont have a whole lot of devices to connect to it.I have wondered what the difference is between having an SFP+ port over a standard port, besides being able to change betwen connectors are there any other performance benefits. All i currently have is my main machine my unraid server and my work laptop and i have an ethernet going to my ISP router (2.5gb port) that brings my internet feed and i can use it to stream my plex library. I primarily want the 10gb connectivity between my unraid sever and machine. Hence investing in a expensive large switch wouldnt make sense. I did have a look at the mickrotik switches though im not very savvy when it comes to adminstering a network hence why i opted for a unmanaged switch. Is there any particular one you would recommend.
  12. Hi im in the market for buying a 10 gig switch with a minimum 2 10gb ports. I thought id found the ideal switch for my specific setup in the QNAP QSW-2104-2T but reading the review below has got me really concerned , im sure ive read something similar in other posts..I predominatley need 2 10 gig ports, the rest can be 2.5gb . I dont necessarily need all 10gb as i will only have 2 devices that will make use of it an i dont want to spend extra money on something , when that money could easily go towards a 10gig card. Can anyone recommend a reliable switch to go for, that isnt going to start playing up after some use.
  13. Im looking to get a set of energy monitoring plugs to add my server setup to monitor the power draw as i have seen an notible increase in my energy cost since the server went live. However im unsure wether that it is the perpetrator or some other appliances i got about the same time. The CPU ive got isnt the most power efficeint as its 13600K however ive added the tweaks plugin and set the power director to power save to ofset some of that.Im not sure if theres anthing else i can do reduce energy consumption. I have been looking at these plugs however im not sure whether they will work with unraid so that im able to view the energy consumption thorugh the server interface. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meross-Monitoring-SmartThings-Control-Required/dp/B0CGC6235V/ref=sr_1_9?crid=38RM3P2XTTUIP&keywords=energy%2Bconsumption%2Bplug&qid=1708081235&sprefix=energy%2Bconsumption%2Caps%2C388&sr=8-9&th=1 I know there are plugs with tasmota firmware but these tend to be on the pricier side. I have looked at the normal Kill a Watt style plugs which would work out cheaper but i think it would it be useful to have all the information in one place rather having to phsically run to the plug each time to see how much power its pulling. Will these work with Unraid and how do you go about pairing these with the server?
  14. Thanks looking within the pipe trunking ive realised the isnt adequate space within it to keep the externet cable at a reasonable distance from the hot pipes which will no doubt lead to either damage to the cable over time or degradation of its peformance. Ive therefore considered taking it up its own dedicated trunking however Im undecided what type of sheilding i will require. Im most likely going to go cat 6 over 6A as in terms of speed theres not much of a difference only that its able to get 10gb to a further distance but aside from that its supposed to be easier to work with. As i have nothing capable of using 10gb ethernet (tv,firstick,ps5 and xbox) where the router (which also only supports 2.5gbs) is located having 10gb is not really a big issue i could most likely get away with Cat 5E but id rather have the extra bandwidth should it become the norm in the future.I will be getting 10gb nics for my server and pc so im able to transfer files at 10gbs however both of these will be connected to their own dedicated switch.Im unsure what route the cable will take wether it will go under the carpets and over door frames or under the floorboards alongside the electrical wiring. Id personally perfer the latter as then its not visibile and its out of tte way however im not sure what type of cable i need. Im probably inclined to think sftp since it has maximum protection but will it be too stiff to work with or is overkill for my specific scenario.
  15. Hi, im pretty sure i will probably open a debate with this one but in terms of performance is there a difference between a flat or round ethernet cable aside from the fact that the round cables have better sheilding around them. Im planning to do a 30 meter run which will will involve taking the cable up some Hot Pipe Trunking in the front room where the router is located into the upstairs bedroom and then from there to my office which will involve taking over a few door frames as well.Im on a 1 gig internet connection and im hoping to get a 10 gb switch to connect my main machine and unraid server to and use the ethernet feed to connect to the internet as well as the router network. Some sources are saying that the flat cables are no where as good as the round ones where as others say they work perfectly fine.Obviously flat ones will be more malleable and easier to conceal and take under doors etc so that would be my prefered choice, but is it the right choice?
  16. Sorry im on the latest build 6.12.6
  17. Hi all, as of recent seem to have a reoccuring issue when i want to power down my server, every time its trying to stop the array it keep getting stuck on 'trying to unmount the shares'. I have tried to stop all docker containers and vms before initating the shutdown but its still throws the error. I checked the logs recently and it look like the share /mnt/apps was busy which im sure is used by docker but cant understand what can possibly be still accessing the share. Some people say that its the docker.img file im not sure how i can disconnect access to it if that is the case.Im inclined to think is it docker thats causing the issue since it only started happening once i started adding containers to my setup. The only option right now I have is just to do hard power down and then wait two days for the parity check to finish as its detected an unclean shutdown. Some people have reported that they started having a similar problem when then went upto build 6.12, not sure how much truth there is to that claim though.
  18. They would have to drill through the ceiling do the drops and they wont touch any of that
  19. Hi all, I'm currently trying to connect prowlarr to nordvpn as some of the indexers im using are blocked by my isp. Im using the nordlynx container to connect to nordvpn and according to the logs it seems to have connected to VPN fine as I can see a different ip address that it has assigned to the container. However when i try and associate Prowlarr to use nordlynxs network connection I get a blank window when I try and launch the webui , that says about#blank blocked on the address bar.The prowlarr log seems to have multiple entries of this text ' Prowlarr.Http.Authentication.ApiKeyAuthenticationHandler: AuthenticationScheme: SignalR was challenged.'. I have predominantly followed this guide to set this up though it doesn't cover prowlaar i would have assumed the process would be the same as it part of the same suite of 'arr' containers . The only deviation from the guide was I had to set the network connection to custom or none for prowlarr ,by using the default bridge causes the install to fail. I did find that that when setting up prowlarr it did come up with a message to say that port had been assigned to another container as the guide advises you to add all the ports to nord container before setting up all the containers, not sure if this has any bearing on the issue at hand. I'm not sure if this is the right vpn container to use or I should be using something else. Has anyone had any success with getting Nord to work with Prowlarr, Radarr and Sonarr?
  20. No as in the actual roof, this is coax for the virgin broadband line
  21. Not really an option for me as the room where my office is located is in the middle of the house (basically an unused bedroom) surrounded by other rooms and a bathroom so drilling holes into walls wasn't really an option for me(would have to go through two walls and a bathroom ) not forgetting an unsightly white thick cable running across the rooms. The only option I had was taking ethernet starting from the downstairs front room where the router is located and all around the downstairs area up the staircase and then finishing up in my office which is a hell of a lot ethernet. I was really hoping they could just take it over the roof it would have been the cleanest and easiest way to do it as they have previously done it at my folks house but they guy insisted he cant otherwise he would face a disciplinary ,How do you run your wiring?
  22. Hi all.. I contacted my internet service provider with the hope that they could move my router into my office upstairs that way i can have both my main machine and the NAS connected directly to the internet so both can benefit from my 1gbs internet speed but also benefit from 2.5gbs connectivity. They have advised me that they cannot move the router as there no way to reach the part of the house and their current regulations do not allow them to run cable across the roof. Currently my main machine is connected via wifi and the nas located in the attic via room via a power line adapter. The problem is that the power line adapter can only transfer data up to 20-30 megabytes a second which is fine for small files but with your average uncompressed 4k being between 50 - 70gb this could take up to an hour to transfer a single file across the network, even when using a a high speed nvme cache drive. To me the only option is to invest in a wifi 6e mesh system that way i can benefit from a higher WIFI internet speeds as well as being able to connect the nas directly to one of the 2.5gbs ethernet ports on one of the satellites. However these are expensive so I'm interested to know how people who are in a similar predicament as me have managed to attain decent speeds i.e where their nas couldn't be connected directly to the router. Is using a mesh system my only option?
  23. Hi I'm in the process of setting up my array an I'm total noob at unraid so I have a few questions. I want to ensure that dockers and VMS are installed to an SSD for faster performance. I have a 1tb nvme which I will use a cache pool and 500gb SSD that I was to use for Dockers and VM's. I have read somewhere that i need to also set that as cache drive but I'm not sure how you would make sure that all files that need to go the array are put initially to the NVME and the dockers and VM's to the SSD. How would I achieve this? Secondly is there anyway I view the power usage of my unraid sever . I have seen images of people being able to view the power usage on the dashboard? Do I need a UPS to monitor this?
  24. The Jonsbos got 8 hdd bays.. I think my main concern is using something cheap to manage the sata connections and once the drives all start getting connected theres issues with file transfer or drives start randomly losing connectivity .Having an enterpirse level controller will give you some peace of mind that it will be able to deal with the demands place upon it. My mobo has 4 onboard sata connections.
  25. Has anyone tried to add a HBA to a Jonbo N3 case.. Ive got one of these nvme sata expansion cards off aliexpress for my array but judging from the price im not sure how well /long these will manage before they topple over . Id therefore rather go for something more reliable however im not sure if the case ive got will have sufficient space infront of the heatsink to put small fan on top of it (still waiting for it arrive).Has anyone had any experience or would a sata expansioin card serve me better?, im planning on running an 8 disk array. Going off some of the comments here it looks like even the sata expansion cards have been somewhat problematic on here for some people.
