  1. I've always been interested in the backblaze pods, and more recently the HGST 60 bay deal) just out of curiosity but even just the empty pods are way way overpriced. While searching around on ebay I came across a newegg listing for a chassis I never knew existed. While I know nothing about it, its significantly cheaper than either of the two so called backblaze pod manufacturers @ $495. When the hell did iStarUSA start making 45 bay top load chassis? Anyone ever seen one of these or better yet, have one? While we have seen the HGST 60 bay chassis going extremely cheap lately, replacing one of those power supplies or one of the backplanes might be an issue as far as finding them, not to mention, 220 power, crazy expensive cabling blah blah blah.. So I'm kind of on the fence on that one and like the fact that the iStarUSA chassis uses your standard components we all have laying around, run on normal household power.. Anyway, if you guys haven't seen them yet, here is the spam free link to newegg. 2. Just an FYI, I removed my server and tried the auto find feature again and this time it found it without issue. So I know that's going to be very difficult to track down as it's not 100% repeatable 100% of the time. Now quit reading these forum posts and go add some features to this app that will blow our minds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I was gonna steal your banner then I noticed it had the blue mark of the devil on it...
  4. Although that's true, the HGST can hold 12 more drives and is new. I was just posting that link for fun. I'm sure someone lit there could make use of these chassis but I'm perfectly rly content with my SM846 chassis for now. I couldn't imagine filling either of these with 8TB drives. Then again back in the day I never thought I would have the amount of storage filled that I have now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. And if that unit is just to low end for ya, you could always step up to the HGST 60 bay variant: http://m.ebay.com/itm/252574528364 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I have to be honest, I've wondered the same thing. I've thought about with one large chassis and getting rid of the multiple unRAID servers thing I currently have going. I read somewhere where somebody had bought one of these for around $300 and it was idling at like 80db. That's second and third hand information so take it with a grain of salt. Now we just need Tom to implement multiple arrays independent of one another in unRAID and we would be set!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I just purchased for iOS as well. Not that I needed it but like others, I wanted to support the development of this app. I wasn't able to add anything automatically but typing in just the IP and nothing else other than the previous filled port 80, it found it right away. I'm running unRAID 6.2.1 and App Ver 2.1.2 on iOS 10.0.1. Other than that, lookin good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. That's what I meant is in their TOS they basically come out and say not that they will, but that they can remove files or your entire account at will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I truly wonder how long unlimited will really mean unlimited. I know those of us with 100TB are not the majority and are more likely the minority but after the onedrive issues just make me wonder. Or even to the extent of how much snooping Amazon does to your files/data. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I stalled the dog servicer docker and it increased my parity speed by 300%. Thanks!! All jokin aside, I have no idea what I'm waiting for but I want it damn it!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. While I would agree you don't want to skimp out when it comes to power supplies, I would advise you get a cheap kilowatt meter on Amazon and check what you will draw for not just watts but more specifically, amps. Not to disagree with garycase but 90% of people buying power supplies go way way way over on what the actually need. Bigger isn't always better and in most cases is overkill and not even within the power supplies efficiency band. While my set up is different, I only pull about 150 watts at idle (all drives spun up) on my SM 846 running 24 WD reds. Mine are just media servers so I don't run VMs or have multiple GPU's. Just giving you an idea of what I have for reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Privacy issues aside, I agree that this might be a viable option for those with very small media collections or those who have mostly downloadable/torrent media where a supposed HD movie is 2GB. This is not (in my opinion) for those of us users who rip our own where a HD video file is 25GB and have 100TB or more. It's just not viable for us yet. Even if us larger users did this, the day a. Inch of our media goes missing is the day we will regret it. So it's still 24 bay Supermicro chassis for me unfortunately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. No, that's a plugin for doing a server layout. I'm referring to having the GUI show the disks physical location on the main tab where it lists the model # and serial #. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I've requested a feature to be added to unRAID (received no love from any other members) that would allow us to give each drive a location such as Row 3 Disk 2 or whatever. Plenty of real estate to do this, no idea why it wasn't baked into unRAID years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Also using PIA. Been with them for 3 years I think. Never a single problem with their service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I'm not sure if Tom would allow the transfer of a license. I think under normal circumstances it would be a no, but you can always write and ask them if they would allow on a one time basis. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I would also agree there is little no difference between old vs new USB sticks, large vs small capacity. As others have stated once unRAID boots that difference is null. If your buddy truly isn't using that license I don't think he would have an issue parting with that $2 USB drive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Not an answer to your question but I am in the same boat but I only use my servers as media storage. Also thinking about switching from my rack set up. I have (6) SM 826 and (3) backup SM 846 chassis. Also thinking about the Node case. Drives have become so large these days that it makes my rack set up damn near obsolete. I could do the same as your suggesting and sell off all my equipment, get 8TB or 10TB or whatever comes next and downsize considerably. My rack set up was cool when building it out but now is just a noisy power hungry monster! When you can stuff 100TB + into a mid tower these days, going with a rack set up is extremely hard to justify. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Others will chime in, but honestly when I do this, I just download the latest version or whatever version you seeking, format the thumb drive, copy the files over, run the make bootable file just like you did before. Pop it in the server, boot it up and add your disks to the array. All your data on the array disks is still there. Just be sure you don't assign a data disk as a parity disk. 20. That's a good point. Or 4K and beyond. I just look at my rack and chassis and wonder what I was thinking. Back then I wanted all this server gear but skip ahead a few years and I'm thinking man some silent towers sure sound good right about now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I do the same as Squid as well. Got tired of MS always breaking it so just went around them with that simple solution and no more issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Although I won't be buying these specific drives, the large drives of the past couple years have really made me start rethinking my current media storage. I have about 100TB when you factor in my backups. Like a lot of you, I have rack chassis in a 42U rack at home. Point is, it's almost time to ditch the rack and just build two towers, one normal and one backup, 50TB each. I can't help but think the days of some of us loving our Supermicro chassis are almost obsolete. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Now all we need is much high data drive limits to make use of that real estate! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Ima gonna get 3 of those for my Linux ISO collection.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
