That doesn't go higher than rc12a.

Didnt get me rc16b but it had rc12a wich is good enough for me at the moment. Thanks guys, very much appreciated!

I'll simply keep my eyes peeled and update when a newer version is released. Thanks again!

it seems 5.0rc16c just came out... where can i go to download rc16b? I'd rather have a version with vmware tools than the latest/greatest

I could be wrong (haven't tried yet, intend to upgrade to RC16c later this week when I have some spare time...), but doesn't the latest version of VM tools work with RC15, RC15a, RC16, RC16a, RC16b & RC16c? They all use the same kernel, so I would assume there is no problem using the "latest and greatest"  :P .

I tried rc16c and rc15 they didnt work with the tools for rc16b unfortunately.

However i rolled back to rc12a, installed the tools for that and am running nice and stable now O0

I won't be upgrading either then, I want a 'stable'  :-\ version with VM tools...

For what it's worth, as above, all the recent rc's use the same kernel.

The only thing stopping this tools package installing is a simple unraid version check in the install script.

If you're so inclined you can take the most recent package, unpack it, fix / change the install script and then repack it and install.

It works fine - I did this for 16c.

To add, once uncompressed at the top of install/doinst.sh simply edit and make sure the version comparator looks like :

if [ "$unRaidVersion" == "5.0-rc16c" ]; then

You should then also be able to put the tgz in /boot/extras as well then - correct?

yep

I have posted a version for RC16c

The install script now checks kernel version not the unRaid version when determining if it will load.

Thanks very much for your work on this. I really appreciate it.

So for us non-gurus, is there an easy way/command to tell what the current kernel version is and what kernel version the vmwaretools supports?

Very slick, great job as always, thanks again!

Thank you - apologies for muddying the water with talk of hacking your previous release.

I just installed RC16 version fo VMTools on my RC15 VMware unRAID install.  This a bad idea?  I tried to reboot my unRAID vm and it hung trying to take the array offline so I had to shut it down from the command line, this of course resulting in an unclean shutdown.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

BR

It's likely to not work.  You should use the Tools labeled for the version of unRAID you are running.

I figured as much.  Anyone know where I can find a how to update my existing vmdk from 5.0 rc15 to rc16?

Use unMenu to mount and share the VMDK then update like you can with the flash - copy bzroot, bzimage and syslinux.cfg.  The only problem you might encounter is if you have to use Make_Bootable.bat again.

Going over a few things in RC16c I ran into the following while checking the syslog:

I don't recall seeing the warning and critical lines before, something that may need looking into.

I also noticed, and maybe its an updated kernel thing, but thought I should mention should it be vmtools related and if anyone less see's this behaviour.

There are times when the vsphere client shows Zero usage of active guest memory, where in the past RC's and vmtools loaded there was at least some usage displayed never zero.

Screenshot attached to lessen any confusion of what I am referring to. THis may not be an issue but a good, thing, just not sure if an OS that's running actually is using nothing...

Is anybody else experiencing the same problem or am I alone: with vmtools I still get parity check after each boot!

Just setup my first unraid VM on ESXi5.0U2.  Thank you so much for compiling vmware tools!
