IllMethods
Here to report that it is a year later and I'm also getting this issue 😆 Quote Link to comment

Joshndroid
Came here after seeing these temp spikes for months and even with a cooler on it. Its only used to boot VM's and is idle 90% of the time when a VM is not running, so i have set the temp values to 85 warn and 86 crit and will see how it goes... "if he dies.... he dies..." JorgeB
FYI it's been reported that this fixes the 980 temp issue, though not sure why it helps: https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/stable-releases/6103-samsung-980-temp-warning-r2007/?do=findComment&comment=20180 Quote Link to comment

Just adding the string to the Syslinux configuration alone didn't work for me. I had to remove the drive and connect it to a Windows system so I could upgrade the firmware using the Samsung magician software. So far so good though, it seems to have done the trick. Thanks @DeadMode. I was just wondering if the "PRO" variant had this issue as well. I do not have the ability to hook it to a windows system, unless I buy an NVMe to USB adapter. In all my builds I always use Samsung, but is there a better NVMe to use for unRAID instead of dealing with overheat issues? Quote Link to comment

I did nearly buy another SSD as I was getting to the end of my tether with the Samsung issues. I was previously using an ADATA SSD M.2 256GB SX8200PNP drive which was faultless, but not quite big enough for my needs, hence swapping in the Samsung drive. Not actually sure if the Samsung Magician software would work with the drive in a USB enclosure or not, but it's the kind of thing I would buy just in case anyway, handy things to have lying around! eeroth
I have a 1 TB 980 and 1 TB 980 pro in a raid 1 pool, running 6.11.5. As others have experienced, the 980 reports exactly 30 min of overheating to 84 C despite idle usage, the 980 pro never gets a warning. I'm fairly new to unraid and not the most unraid savvy so if any sort of drive temp log would be helpful I'd appreciate someone walking me through how to access it for posting haha. As far as I know there is no such thing (but I would like to be proved wrong). You can look through the archived notifications to see when you got notified about temperature issues, but I do not think this is what you are looking for? Quote Link to comment
