Unraid OS version 6.12.14 available

Recommended Posts

Posted

This release has several bug fixes backported from Unraid 7 as well as important security fixes. All users are strongly encouraged to read the release notes and upgrade.

This announce post is perfect for quick questions or comments, but if you suspect there will be back and forth for your specific issue, please start a new topic under General Support. Be sure to include your diagnostics.zip.

Upgrade steps for this release

  1. Read the release notes.

  2. As always, prior to upgrading, create a backup of your USB flash device:  "Main/Flash/Flash Device Settings" - click "Flash Backup".
  3. Update all of your plugins. This is critical for the Connect, NVIDIA and Realtek plugins in particular.
  4. If the system is currently running 6.12.0 - 6.12.6, we're going to suggest that you stop the array at this point. If it gets stuck on "Retry unmounting shares", open a web terminal and type:
    umount /var/lib/docker

The array should now stop successfully

  5. If you have a recent release or Unraid Connect installed
    1. Open the dropdown in the top-right of the Unraid webgui and click Check for Update. More details in this blog post
  6. If you are on an earlier version
    1. Go to Tools -> Update OS and switch to the "Stable" branch if needed. If the update doesn't show, click "Check for Updates"
  7. Wait for the update to download and install
  8. If you have any plugins that install 3rd party drivers (NVIDIA, Realtek, etc), wait for the notification that the new version of the driver has been downloaded.
  9. Reboot

i cant access my share from Windows 11 anymore after update. Yes I saw change note but I am not using guest access. I already had a username and password for the SMB share that is different to my windows MS account. It just says windows cant find the share.

Nothing changed in the Unraid said, only the warning was added, the issue should affect Windows 11 24H2 only, and it will be the same with any other 6.x release.

im getting crashes after updating from 6.12.13, tried syslog mirroring to flash but so far no results from that. i have a few minutes of uptime and then it crashes after everything has been started for a bit. no log events suggesting anything, going to test with array disabled for a bit to see and then trying docker only and then trying vms

Remove ps.txt from diagnostics so as not to expose container VPN credentials.

This seems pretty close to a public disclosure that diagnostics had sensitive information in it before now.
Re unraid forums:
Maybe the unraid team should be sending a message to anyone with a *-diagnostics-*.zip attachment upload suggesting users delete attachments if they are leaking credentials (or just if they don't require support anymore)?

Otherwise the forums are kind of open season for bad actors to go harvest vpn credentials from unsuspecting users.

Does unraid have a timeline of how long ps.txt has been included in diagnostics? Is it every diagnostic upload or is it a subset of configurations?

Looks like this is the NPU Device as described below and this link   (https://docs.openvino.ai/2024/openvino-workflow/running-inference/inference-devices-and-modes/npu-device.html).

Anyone have any idea which plugin is that, and is causing all these errors?

NPU Device

The Neural Processing Unit is a low-power hardware solution, introduced with the Intel® Core™ Ultra generation of CPUs (formerly known as Meteor Lake). It enables you to offload certain neural network computation tasks from other devices, for more streamlined resource management.

NPU Plugin is now available through all relevant OpenVINO distribution channels.

Supported Platforms:

Host: Intel® Core™ Ultra (former Meteor Lake)

NPU device: NPU 3720

OS: Ubuntu* 22.04 64-bit (with Linux kernel 6.6+), MS Windows* 11 64-bit (22H2, 23H2)

NPU Plugin needs an NPU Driver to be installed on the system for both compiling and executing a model.

This is most certainly caused by a Docker container, do you have by any chance Immich with Machine Learning installed and active or any other Machine Learning/Neural Processing container installed?

Posted (edited)

Just checking the release notes, no particular fixes for the NFS issues a bunch of folks have been experiencing on the recent 6.12 series?

e.g. no mention of this

I found it,  it was the OpenVINO Object Detection for Scrypted, in the Scrypted Docker container. Interesting though, I was not geting these errors before! hhmmmm.....

Please take into consideration that Docker containers get updates too and this is most certainly caused by the container not the Unraid update since what this message boils down to is basically, Python3 tried to execute a invalid machine code this boils most of the times down to something with the code (or even the library) being wrong.

After upgrading unraid did not start anymore, please help

Here it stops:

Try booting in safe mode, if that doesn't help, try recreating the flash drive.

There may be some changes just because of the newer kernel, please retest with this release when you can.

I now bootet in safe mode, how can i check what the problem is ?

That suggests a plugin is causing the issue, you can uninstall or disable them from loading, then retest after re-enabling them one by one.
