April 26, 201412 yr Hi, I'm upgrading from 5.0rc12a to 5.0.5. I am running into a problem where my Unraid server is unresponsive over WebGui and Telnet. I've looked on my router and I don't see an IP address assigned to it but I'm not sure how to tackle the problem. I've changed ethernet cables and made sure they are seated properly. On my first boot I saw activity on flash, cache and disk drives (my parity is not hooked up via a HDD cage) but I could not access my webgui or telnet after 15 mins or so. I rebooted a few times and then started looking at my server's IP address. After that I need some help? Upgrade process I followed Stopped all plugins (Sab, SIckB, Transmission, ITunesServer) Made sure parity was good and configuration valid. Backed up flash drive and then followed instructions here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_Instructions I did not run the make_bootable.bat file as I was unsure if I needed it. I'm thinking my flash drive is not bootable so that is why nothing is up and running. Is that a good guess? Can I just plug my flash into my PC and double-click the make_bootable.bat file and retry? Thanks. Post a syslog. You will probably have to hook up an monitor to the server and see if the server completes the boot process before you can do this. You should get a login prompt when/if it does. If unRAID boots, you can get a syslog by following the instructions for 'console session' in the first post in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9880.0 If it fails to boot and you can't figure out the problem, post a photo of the monitor screen.
April 27, 201412 yr Waiting for 06 Will it ever come around I miss bleeding edge Shame I am shocking at haikus. I was tempted to start a daily ode to the promised next release of version 5.

Seems my upgrade is to blame. I lugged the server over to the TV and looked at the bootup sequence. I keep getting a loop on the screen of Could not find kernel image: /syslinux/menu.c32 root: (or boot:) The screen is not displayed properly I remember when I followed the upgrade instructions noticing I did not have a syslinux directory on my flash drive but the 5.0.5 image had a directory. Question is can I just copy this over to my flash drive> What about the syslinux.cfg file? It is in my root directory so should I delete that one as in 5.0.5 it exists in the syslinux directory. Thanks PS if this is not the right place for this question (as I am doing an upgrade to a 5.x stream please let me know where to post this.

Yes, you should be able to just copy the syslinux folder from the install directory to your USB drive, and you can delete the syslinux.cfg file in the root. You will want the new one anyways as it gives you the option for a safe boot. You can also copy everything from the root of the install folder to your USB. It will not overwrite any of your config files. Just be careful not to copy the config folder over as that will reset your disks, shares, networking and users. So, to summarize: Install media has: / (root folder) /syslinux /config Highlight everything and deselect config and copy to your USB stick. Then I'd re-run make_bootable to be safe, and you should hopefully be good.

When you say rerun make_bootable should this be at the cmd prompt or will double click in Windows Explorer work just as well?

Assuming you are running Windows 7/8 just right click and run as Administrator. It will open the cmd prompt and run the script.

You can just use the format from the image file. Those are the only files you need in the root directory.
April 28, 201412 yr so is all development stopped for v5? Last I read was that 5.06 was coming out and with the new webgui - been quiet for weeks / months now. I'm still running the stock webgui that comes with v5.05 - waiting for the new release that includes the new and fixed webgui.

April 28, 201412 yr We're waiting for 5.0.6 With it's webgui bag of tricks But the longer that we wait It's time to resign to fate We're going to have to install unRAID version six.
April 29, 201412 yr We're waiting for 5.0.6 With it's webgui bag of tricks But the longer that we wait It's time to resign to fate We're going to have to install unRAID version six. version 6 is a beta product, 5.0.5 is stable. Great if you want to play with Zen, but for my server it's not worth the risk. I'll run it on my backup server when it gets finished to play around with. I'm still on 5.0.4 because 5.0.5 broke the daylight savings Brisbane timezone (we don't have daylight savings) and I wasn't going to take the risk with it screwing things up. But guess what? It's all still working as unraid always does, Yay for unraid. Updates are great, but when nothing if broke, I can wait for a little eye candy. I'm sure Tom is working hard behind the scenes though.
April 29, 201412 yr Beta, no way for server with your data. I did use RC's, but even then I watched the forums to look for anyone having issues. Really should play on a backup or test server. 5.05 is stable for me. I still have some issues with AFP, where my imac won't connect to the timemachine share via AFP. I have to stop AFP and restart it. Sometimes I have to delete the share from the imac and connect fresh again. So something still weird there, but in all - things have been solid. I'm eager to install 5.06
April 29, 201412 yr I dont have the time, nor the test server, to try Beta 6. Unlike other upgrades, this one is major *if* you use your server for other things. In my case SickBeard, SABNZBD, Couach potato, headphones, transmission, flexget, headless xbmc and MySQL. Sure, I can probably run all of that in Xen VMs and it will make the system perform better BUT it's going to take a fair bit of time investment on my part, something that's unavailable at the moment. So if 5.0.5 is the last of the 5 upgrades, so be it. Just a simple note to say that's it will be enough for me to stop checking the forums daily until there is some time to give 6 a go.
April 29, 201412 yr I see where Tom updated openssl for release v6 to fix heartbleed risk; does v5.05 have heartbleed exposure? If so, will it get fixed?
April 29, 201412 yr I see where Tom updated openssl for release v6 to fix heartbleed risk; does v5.05 have heartbleed exposure? If so, will it get fixed? version 5 does not ship with openssl so there is no vulnerability in stock unRAID. if you are installing plugins that use openssl you will need to get an updated version of the plugin to correct the issue.

Oh, well, Heck! Sure enough...3 versions of openssl are in /packages. Never even thought to look... Thanks for the heads up, everyone
April 29, 201412 yr You can check to see which version of openssl you are running by telnet/ssh into your unraid box and typing "openssl version". It needs to say "OpenSSL 1.0.1g 7 Apr 2014" to be protected from the heartbleed vulnerability. This is from http://heartbleed.com/ OpenSSL 1.0.1 through 1.0.1f (inclusive) are vulnerable OpenSSL 1.0.1g is NOT vulnerable OpenSSL 1.0.0 branch is NOT vulnerable OpenSSL 0.9.8 branch is NOT vulnerable
April 29, 201412 yr I'm holding out for 5.0.6 with the new GUI. Any update on progress / release date?
May 2, 201412 yr I have been having an issue where transmission is not picking up files i place in a watch directory. After some googling i cam across a post that says: In Linux you need a kernel version equal or newer than 2.6.13 AND to enable inotify on that kernel; he obviously doesn't have met those conditions and therefore is watching his daemon poll. On Unix... there are too many versions to generalize. Now i never made the connection until now, and i believe this started happening when i upgraded unraid to 5.0.5. So can i get it confirmed that the "kernel version is equal to or newer than 2.6.13 AND notify is enabled" ? thanks

May 3, 201412 yr I'm holding out for 5.0.6 with the new GUI. Any update on progress / release date? And there you have it. With two official threads updating us on 6 Beta6 and Xen virtualization, and nothing on version 5, it's safe to assume there is no more work happening on Version 5.
May 4, 201412 yr Author I'm holding out for 5.0.6 with the new GUI. Any update on progress / release date? And there you have it. With two official threads updating us on 6 Beta6 and Xen virtualization, and nothing on version 5, it's safe to assume there is no more work happening on Version 5. What exactly do you want to see in v5? v5 is based on a 32-bit slackware distro several years old, using a PAE linux kernel. It's going to be a huge amount of work to update, and for what? Another 32-bit PAE kernel? We can either back port new features being worked on in v6 to v5, or we can move forward and bring v5 plugins into v6. Don't you think the latter is a better approach? About the only advantage I see with v5 moving forward is for those using a non-64-bit capable CPU or very low memory (< 1GB) configurations. Do you fall in that category?
