ufopinball
On 5/19/2017 at 6:13 AM, Pauven said: Awesome, another success story makes the hard work worth it. I'm at 45 days up-time and counting. A couple noteworthy items: In an interview with Forbes, AMD confirmed that it is working to improve Ryzen DDR4 support, and has an AGESA update for May (probably the 1.0.0.6 already mentioned in this thread). AMD also stressed on the need for motherboard manufacturers to improve their board designs in the future, with more PCB layers and better copper traces between the DIMM slots and the processor socket. Is that AMD throwing shade? Looks like AMD is starting to lay the blame on low memory speeds back on the manufacturers. Pure speculation, but this might mean that our first gen Ryzen motherboards have design limitations holding back memory speeds, and that AMD is not going to waste too much time trying to improve memory support for poorly designed motherboards. https://www.techpowerup.com/233476/amd-talks-improved-ryzen-memory-support-ryzen-3-and-game-optimization Also, I see unRAID 6.3.4 landed a few days ago. I looked at the release notes, but didn't see anything Ryzen related. Also, the kernel only got upgraded to 4.9.28. Very disappointing. Anybody upgrade yet? Any stability improvements? -Paul I've been checking every few days, but so far there's no new BIOS for the ASUS Prime X370-PRO motherboard. Last update was on April 10th. Otherwise, I was away for the weekend, but upgraded to unRAID 6.3.4 this morning. So far, no problems. Can't comment on stability, I'm leaving my Windows 10 VM because that was my original use case. This effectively prevents me from testing stability without a VM running. Again, the C-States setting doesn't appear to make a difference on this board, so it's currently at the default setting. - Bill Quote Link to comment

I believe the asrock fatality pro works with the sensor plugin but the Asus prime does not. How about msi, gigabyte etc? Please list your board here if sensors work. Thanks Okay, so I took another stab at this today. For the record, my board is the ASUS Prime X370-PRO. If I open a putty window and run "sensors-detect", here's what I get (skipping 'No" items): Trying family `ITE'... Yes Found unknown chip with ID 0x8665 (logical device 4 has address 0x290, could be sensors) Unfortunately, the ITE 0x8665 driver is not included in the unRAID 6.3.4 build ... however, this led me to this thread: https://github.com/groeck/it87/issues/10 Following their instructions, I tried this command: modprobe it87 force_id=0x8620 and then ran 'sensors', which now produced this output: it8620-isa-0290 Adapter: ISA adapter in0: +0.88 V (min = +2.22 V, max = +2.42 V) in1: +2.74 V (min = +0.97 V, max = +1.39 V) in2: +2.20 V (min = +2.06 V, max = +1.81 V) in3: +2.18 V (min = +1.34 V, max = +2.27 V) in4: +0.04 V (min = +1.57 V, max = +0.49 V) in5: +0.04 V (min = +1.46 V, max = +2.76 V) in6: +0.04 V (min = +2.11 V, max = +0.16 V) 3VSB: +3.60 V (min = +3.24 V, max = +4.51 V) Vbat: +3.46 V in11: +0.41 V Array Fan: 1053 RPM (min = 11 RPM) fan3: 795 RPM (min = 40 RPM) CPU Temp: +44.0°C (low = -31.0°C, high = +78.0°C) sensor = thermistor MB Temp: +32.0°C (low = +84.0°C, high = +13.0°C) sensor = thermistor temp3: +34.0°C (low = -13.0°C, high = -14.0°C) sensor = thermistor temp4: +34.0°C temp6: +34.0°C intrusion0: ALARM Since we don't have the proper driver, we're using a 'compatible' driver, so the above information has some issues. Notably the min/max values are incorrect ... however for my purposes, I am only interested in obtaining enough data to populate the Dynamix System Temperature plugin. This works as follows: To complete the setup, I added the command "modprobe it87 force_id=0x8620" to my 'go' file and rebooted. The system loads the drivers at boot time, and the plugin now displays the CPU/MB temperature and the CPU fan speed on the status line. Hopefully in unRAID 6.4, they'll include the necessary sensors packages to support the ITE 0x8665 chipset. If someone has one of the other ASUS motherboards and find that this also works for you, let us know? - Bill PS: I did not test this with an earlier version of unRAID, so I don't know if version 6.3.4 (or later) is required. You may wish to upgrade prior to attempting this. Edited May 22, 2017 by ufopinball 1 4 Quote Link to comment

ufopinball
Good article on the Ryzen AGESA 1.0.0.6 firmware update, which includes much more flexibility (BIOS settings) when it comes to expanded memory support. Surprise, there are also some details on expanded IOMMU/ACS support! AMD must have listened when this was brought up in an earlier AMA meeting. Glad to see them stepping up items for virtualization, as this will become more important moving forward into Naples/Epyc. https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2017/05/25/community-update-4-lets-talk-dram All that said, it looks like it's not out yet, just in beta test. Actual finalized BIOS updates aren't expected till mid/late June. Wonder what else will be included? - Bill Edited May 26, 2017 by ufopinball Changed to a better link Quote Link to comment

That's disappointing. With the ACS patch on unRAID, I am able to pass in one of three USB controllers built into the motherboard. I ended up returning my USB 3.0 PCIe card because it wasn't necessary anymore. It was less than $10, so I suppose it's no big deal either way. Still, it would be nice to be able to plug the USB 3.0 card into a PCIe x1 slot, than having to use one of the larger x16 slots ... that's just how the IOMMU groupings broke up. - Bill Quote Link to comment

dkabot
Alright, reverted my board back to latest stable. While the GPUs were detected in their own group, neither Unraid nor Arch were able to actually pass it through. Going into the VM externally with TeamViewer showed the resolution was 640x480 and there were no graphics adapters at all. Also, the RGB light cycle was messed up, and it would show red instead of purple on my CPU fan. Clearly the worst of tragedies. Anyway, looks promising, be nice to see what happens on stable release. sentryjez
Hello everybody, I'm following this thread for a while now. I'm new to Unraid, but thought i'd give it a shot. Here's the setup- Ryzen R5 1600@3,85GHz- Asus Prime X370-pro- Crucial Balistix Tactical 16GB@2,66GHz- Gigabyte RX550- Sapphire RX460I'm Running the latest BIOS, v 0612.It was released this week. Improvements towards the iommu-issue were told to be made, thought i saw it on the level1-forum. But still need the ACS patch to split the GPU-grouping up.That done, started to play arround, and was able to pass the 460 to a Win10-VM.I was even able to pass the RX550, wich is my primary GPU, to the VM and run Unraid headless. But when I stop the VM, Unraid doesn't get the GPU back. Guess it has to do with reinitialising, or something. Gonna scoop the forum a little further.Verstuurd vanaf mijn ALE-L21 met Tapatalk Quote Link to comment

I wonder do these split groups, and especially the GPUs properly work as they should - and with minimal performance losses inside the VMs ? afaik when using ACS override patches one can expect occasionally some odd system behaviour. due to the "illegally" shared ressources maybe ? Josecitox
These are my IOMMU groups after updating a Gigabyte AX370-Gaming K7 to the latest beta bios with the AGESA 1.0.0.6 code. I had to do the ACS Override Enabled (downstream, multifunction) for them to appear like this, with nothing enabled they look even worse than the previous bios lol. My performance in gaming tanked though, don't know why i'm getting 50-60fps average in the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark when i had around 180-200 on bare metal. NPT is still busted as ever from what I can tell; it murders GPU performance, but turning it off hurts CPU performance a good deal. Quote Link to comment

Tuftuf
I will check out the Beta bios for Gaming 5 when I get chance. One thing I did notice with my current setup, if I disable ACS override the performance in VM's seems to take a hit. Within games I'll often see slowdowns and FPS drops but with ACS override on this is not an issue. Quote Link to comment
skyline7349
I feel like a separate tread should be started just for posting successful ryzen builds. This thread is a bit hard to follow and im thinking about upgrading from the FX-8350 to Ryzen 1800 but i want to make sure i dont have compatibility issues. Quote Link to comment
Tuftuf
Skyline..... It's hard to say what compatibility issues you will have other than this chip really hasn't been out long. It's working, but hard to say anything other than its a work in progress. I started my own build thread for Ryzen just because I wanted to document what did and didn't work. Quote Link to comment
