Any help much appreciated.

As always with hardware related issues, please post your Diagnostics.

However when you see ERROR: No driver found! this basically means that you closed the installation window to early and did not wait for the download to finish.

Hi, I am having issues with my Unraid server and this plugin, I have been attempting to install these new drivers on a new unraid box for days and posting here is my last hope.

Context:
- I was having issues with my old box, the best option for me was to start with a fresh usb and docker configs
- Created a new OS with the latest version and setup the array from scratch, first and only priority to get the NVIDIA drivers working and then build up from there
- I have ran my old box (6.12 something) for years with the driver and it works fine, RTX 2070 for transcoding plex mainly- I know this hardware setup works

Since then, I have had absolutely no luck getting these drivers to stick- its always something. On a fresh install I can get the plugin and driver installed just fine, nvidia-smi works, i can get plex setup and transcoding works beautifully, everyone is happy. I may even restart the box once or twice, and everything sticks and is fine. However no matter what, eventually, maybe on the first reboot, maybe the second or third, they randomly disappear (ERROR: No drivers found!), nvidia-smi is dead, nothing works anymore. I will go to try and re-download the driver, or even another version of the driver maybe, half of the time I get a checksum error, the other half it will download and install again, and on reboot, maybe it works ? but usually it doesnt. and if it does work, its rinse and repeat again on subsequent reboots, it just never sticks.

Currently im on unraid version 7.1.4 because it seems to work some of the time here, on the latest version i dont think I ever got it to work once (which is why I started trying previous OS versions). I am just not sure anymore because nothing makes sense. I have tried setting different BIOS settings, ive updated my BIOS to the latest version. Ive tried blacklisting nouveau, i just dont know what to do at this point. USB is new and a good reputable brand, tested it multiple times, also tested on another second brand new usb. Unfortunately it seems either something is very broken with my system or I am seriously inept at server administration, Ive just never had this many issues before and I am very close to just ditching unraid altogether and using another OS.

If any other information would help I can provide that, I would definitely appreciate any help because I am at the end of my rope here!

Are you sure that you USB boot device is not failing?
Diagnostics would be super helpful when having hardware/driver related questions but it seems that no one is interested in posting them. :D

Diagnostics especially Diagnostics when you get the Error: No driver found!, however from what I've read this sounds like a failing USB boot device.

The message Error: No driver found! was implemented to detect such things and this basically means that the driver package is broken which shouldn't happen at all because there are a few things in place which should prevent these errors.

Thank you for the reply! Linked here are the diagnostics from my server.

I have tried on three different USB sticks so far, two of those being new unused sticks. I currently am using a Kingston 32GB High-Speed DTSE9G2 USB. Although based on all the craziness it wouldn't hurt to try another new one I can probably grab one from the store to be sure.

I'm not a huge fan from uploading Diagnostics to anywhere else, please next time just drag the zip file here into the text box.

Do you have any special start scripts or something like that installed, I see that your server installs driver version 580.82.09, about your USB Boot device, you have a lot of FSCK files on there, this isn't necessary a indication that the USB Boot device is failing but it seems rather strange to me since you shouldn't have that much on there, in the best case you won't have any such files on there.

Noted, I am not sure it is a fresh usb that unraid creation tool formatted so I definitely didnt add anything. To be sure I got a new sandisc cruzer fit usb 2.0 device. I used unraid tool to create another fresh usb on the latest unraid OS version. This time I cannot get the plugin to install at all, it keeps throwing a checksum error no matter how many times I reboot and try again. The current diagnostics are also attached. This is the fourth USB I have used and this is another new one so I really dont know why they would all be failing, that doesnt seem very likely to me.

I appreciate you taking the time to help.

How to downgrade to CUDA version 12.8 from 13.1?

I believe I may have narrowed the issue down to some failing RAM in the system, I will have to verify for sure, but for now I believe that is the most likely culprit

I'm having a very similar issue to griffinpuc in that I was having system issues, so I built a new 7.2.3 drive on a brand new flash drive (Samsung Bar 128GB); the old flash drive was an old SanDisk Cruzer 16GB that I'd been using for like 6-8 years until some recent issues prompted me to try multiple things to get Unraid back up and running.

Used the Unraid creation tool to create the drive, copied over files for some of my Docker containers like Plex, and once the system was running, I went to update my containers. Updates went fine except for Plex, which said it couldn't complete with the --runtime=nvidia argument, indicating to me that there was an issue with the nvidia tool/driver.

I removed the driver and tool, rebooted, re-installed the tool, re-installed the driver, was prompted to stop and restart Docker, so I did that. Nvidia tool said "NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running". Did a full reboot, still no joy. Checked Tools -> System Devices and saw both my P2000 and GeForce GT 1030. When checking Tools -> System Drivers, the only thing that shows up related to Nvidia is the blacklisted limetech nouveau driver that's disabled.

When I was having issues with the old flash drive and the kernel wasn't loading on bootup, I ran a full hardware diagnostic from my server's lifecycle controller, and all hardware passed (2 CPUs, 48 cores, 320GB RAM, 10 HDDs all passed), so I don't have reason to suspect failing RAM like they mentioned. Although being an old Dell R720xd with DDR3 memory, it's not like I'm not using aging parts that could be failing; I just figure the diagnostic would catch problems.

Unraid Diagnostics attached.

That's not easy achievable since you would have to find a driver which includes CUDA 12.8.

I assume you have a container that not supports 13.1 correct? Is there maybe a updated container available which supports the new CUDA version?

@griffinpuc narrowed that down to a maybe faulty RAM, which can be the case.

You have a different issue:

GTX10 series seems now to be legacy and you have to use driver version 580.x for your cards, 590.x versions will only work for GTX16/RTX20 series and up.

Updating here that it has been about 12 hours since identifying the faulty RAM, all reboots have been working fine since and the drivers are persisting. In case anyone else runs into issues like mine, run a memtest because i was getting all sorts of unexplained weirdness with reboots prior to removing the faulty stick

Does this Nivida Driver Plugin auto update the driver?

I have a 1060 and after I rebooted my server today I got that SMI Error..

I've downgraded the drivers to 580.119.02 and now the card it being detected,

I am guessing that Nvidia dropped support for the 1060 in it's latest driver?

Please always include your Diagnostics.

I'm not sure since you didn't tell me what driver was initially selected.

Question: is it possible to use a custom driver with this plugin? I have a "Frankenstein" 1-slot A2000 card that is based on the mobile gpu kicking around that I'd like to try in my unraid server, but I believe it requires a slightly modified driver to be recognized, available here: https://github.com/arutar/FrankenDriver Is there any way to make that work with the plugin?

Hello,

I upgraded from unraid 7.0.0 to 7.2.3. I updated the nvidia plugin before the process.

After the unraid update, I got the error "NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running."

I then proceeded to downgrade to v580.119.02. This made my unraid machine be unable to access to WebGUI. So I booted into safe mode, removed the driver. Then I rebooted and restarted then reinstalled the driver to v580.119.02 production branch. This worked but I still got the same "NVIDIA-SMI has failed" failure. I then downgraded to open source driver v580.95.05 and I still get the same error.

The GPU is a Quadro K620. The card is NOT binded to VFIO. The card is recognized by unraid when I go to tools -> system devices. The card IS supported by all 3 of the drivers I downloaded. I've included a diagnostic.

Could I have some help with this please? Thank you so much!

As soon as I reverted it to a 580.x.x driver, everything worked perfectly. Thank you for pointing that out!

Possibly, but it's up to you to compile such a driver, please see here:

https://github.com/ich777/unraid_kernel

you can also find the build scripts for the default Nvidia driver here:

https://github.com/unraid/unraid-nvidia-driver/tree/master/source

EDIT: After looking again through the Repository that you have linked, I'm not 100% sure if such an old driver will compile against a newer Kernel, but you can at least try.

Please don't install the OpenSource variant from the driver, you have to install the non Open Source version.

From what I see you have this driver selected:

-rw------- 1 root root 313219916 Oct 23 23:54 nvos-580.95.05-6.12.54-Unraid-1.txz

-rw------- 1 root root 33 Oct 23 23:54 nvos-580.95.05-6.12.54-Unraid-1.txz.md5

Which basically indicates the open source variant.

Thanks I'll try again later, though that was the last thing I tried. I still got the same error with the production driver.

Sorry for that, I had the latest selected.

Nvidia has stopped supporting 10series cards in the 590 driver set. I downgraded to the 580 set and its working again.

Thanks for the development of this plugin.

I have two unraid servers, for which I'd like to use the plugin.

1) Unraid Server 1

Plugin installed with Nvidia 1060 with driver 580.119.02

Possible to upgrade driver or that's as good as it gets with this old card?

2) Unraid Server 2

Two Nvidia 3060 cards

Cannot install the plugin and getting below error message

Nvidia 10th series seems not to be legacy, so to speak you can only use the latest driver from the 580.x driver series.

Too less information, do you have Diagnostics?

Do you have an error on the Nvidia Plugins settings page?

Do you have Unifi hardware? If yes, please check in your logs if something isn't blocked by your Firewall. Also check if you have AdBlocking on your network that nothing is blocking the download, the plugin uses the GitHub API to get the newest releases.

Do you have enough space on your USB Boot device (about 400MB for the Nvidia Driver).

Got it.

Will keep 580.119.02 for my 1060.

For the other server with 2 GPUs, it now worked out. It only shows in the plugin one of my 2 GPUs though. Is it meant to only support one?
