  1. As far as I know, there is not a way to modify the Stop Array button to add other scripts. Others may be able to tell you of something I am not aware of... You can control unRAID from the command line. This includes stopping the array. Instructions here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Console#To_cleanly_Stop_the_array_from_the_command_line. You could probably script something to initiate the stop & call your script. However, if it is SABnzbd, SickBeard & CouchPotato that are keeping your array from stopping... let me direct you to the plugins by Influencer found on this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=21260.0. His plugins actually shut down when you try to stop your array using the Stop Array button (without any extra shenanigans needed) & come back once it is restarted. He keeps them updated & he actively supports his plugins in this thread.
  2. Look near the bottom of this page http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Python_based_servers for unMENU shutdown button. It is not exactly what you are asking for, but I think it might work close enough to accomplish it. This page's instructions is how I originally installed SAB & Sick. I used the unmenu script, but it was a little inconvenient to try to remember to click the shutdown python button when stopping my array. I switched to using Influencer's plugins & no longer needed to shut them down via unmenu (as his plugins stop themselves / do not prevent my array from being stopped).
  3. Is /mnt/user/torrents set to be a cache only share? The user share torrents (/mnt/user/torrents/) will be stored across multiple disks. Unless you set the user share to exclude specific disks or be cache only. Browsing /mnt/disk1/ will show a torrents directory that contains some or all of the same files as browsing /mnt/user/torrents/ if it is not set to cache only.
  4. Most people connect their unRAID server & their other PC to a switch / router. Not directly to each other. The router / switch usually assigns IP addresses using DHCP to the computers. You can connect 2 computers directly to each other without a switch / router, but you may need a special crossover cable to do it. You would also need to set static IP addresses yourself on each computer & make sure they are within the same IP subnet.
  5. My unRAID server is using my APC Back-UPS XS-1500. It is my newest battery backup purchased around June 2012. My unRAID server is the only thing plugged into it. Have had several brownouts & 2 short blackouts since setting up my server with no interruptions in power to my server. Unfortunately when taking the pictures of my server, I pulled the dolly out from under the table to get better views... & when I pushed the dolly back under the table, I knocked against the power cord which caused an unclean shutdown. DOH! Luckily it started back up just fine & parity check found no issues. Right next to that UPS is an APC Back-UPS XS-1300. It was purchased sometime over a year ago. I have my Windows 7 tower that I use for gaming & XBMC to my TV hooked into it. Also use the power surge portion of it for other less essential equipment like monitors & speakers. My uptime on my unRAID is low because I keep changing things & restarting. I have changed my parity drive from a 2TB to a 3TB successfully. I have changed my cache drive from a 2TB down to a 750GB successfully. Added the old cache & old parity into the array as data drives at different times successfully. As you can see from my sig, I also keep finding new plugins I must try. The UPS & unRAID are working beautifully... so once I stop tinkering with things, I expect to see higher uptimes.

  7. A second USB drive might work. I don't have experience with using a 2nd USB drive with unRAID, but it seems possible. Others may be able to offer more pros & cons on this possibility. If you back up the 2nd USB drive that contains your plugins to somewhere on your array & the 2nd USB drive fails... You could get a new USB drive to replace it & copy the backed up settings onto it. The USB drive containing your unRAID license & setup would not be affected (as the heavy input/output would be restricted to the 2nd USB drive). You would need to remember to create a new backup of the 2nd USB drive onto the array (or whatever backup method you choose) each time you made a change. Not sure how long the drive would last... it would definitely create extra steps to maintain.
  8. It is possible to install these 3 programs to your unRAID flash drive, but recommended strongly not to do so. These programs would cause excessive reading / writing to the flash drive, causing it to stop working sooner than not doing so. When determining which NAS I wanted to use, I installed the free version of unRAID to an old USB stick I had lying around. I then setup all the plugins / extras (including these 3) to test it... it worked. Once I decided to purchase unRAID, I bought a new USB drive specifically for my unRAID license key. I now use a cache drive for all my plugins. If you have an unRAID license, the key is tied specifically to your USB key's unique ID. If that USB flash drive stops working, you will be without a working unRAID server until you either purchase a new one or go through a tech support process to try to get a new key for a new working flash drive. If you do not have a cache drive, try installing the programs to a specific disk share. Then only that one disk will stay spun up. * Edit - Even if you are using the free version of unRAID, if your unRAID flash drive stops working then you will lose any customizations or settings that were on the dead drive.
  9. Here is the Configuration Tutorial wiki page. It includes instruction on how to preclear.
  10. Have not tried to login as a user other than root. I know once you are logged in as root, you can use the su command to change to another user. For instance if I have a username I want to change to of user1, the command is root@tower:/# su user1 user1@tower:/# Any commands run after this are run as user1. Just type exit to go back to being root.
  11. OpenSSL should be right below OpenSSH in unmenu. Install OpenSSL then try installing OpenSSH.
  12. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes Make a backup of your flash drive in case something happens & you want to revert.
  13. fdisk -l /dev/sdX The -l option (that is a lowercase L) lists the partition table. Replace X with the drive letter you want to view. Output will look something like: # fdisk -l /dev/sda Disk /dev/sda: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 1 heads, 63 sectors/track, 62016336 cylinders Units = cylinders of 63 * 512 = 32256 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 2 62016336 1953514552 83 Linux Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. * Edit to fix a typo.
  14. The cables being brand new does not eliminate that as the problem. There could be a loose connection or a cable could be bad even though it is new.
  15. I am also interested in having unRAID as an OpenVPN server. However, with all the posts stating unRAID is not a hardened server (& therefor not meant to be exposed to the Interent)... I am not sure how involved it would be to do things safely. Would love to see a guide on how to strengthen unRAID & setup OpenVPN.
  16. Your network.cfg is automatically regenerated by the Network Settings under the Settings tab of the WebGUI. What happens when you set the Network Setting to a static IP under the Settings page? Obtain IP address automatically: No IP address: 192.168.0.9 Network mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 Obtain DNS server address automatically: No DNS server 1: 8.8.8.8 DNS server 2: 208.67.222.222 DNS server 3: 208.67.220.220 In my above example I use the IP address of 192.168.0.9 since it is not inside your DHCP range. You mention that when you change the network.cfg the settings do not stay changed. If you can view the webgui during this time, you may be able to make the changes there which should stick. # Generated settings: USE_DHCP="no" IPADDR="192.168.0.9" NETMASK="255.255.255.0" GATEWAY="192.168.0.1" DHCP_KEEPRESOLV="no" DNS_SERVER1="8.8.8.8"
  17. I think cache_dirs uses the find command to load files into RAM. The command find is a Linux command to search the Linux file system. http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?find As it is part of the Linux file system, you won't actually be stopping find. You can stop cache_dirs which is using find to search your disks.
  18. If you installed them via unmenu, go back to unmenu PKG Manager, select the package you installed & click the Disable Reinstall on Reboot button for each package.
  19. From telnet you can use "free -m" Here is some good info to know about how Linux considers what memory is free & what is used: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/
  20. ... but think of the consequences of data theft! I never did fancy a car which used fingerprint identity - I'm not sure whether the stories of digit amputation are factual, but I'd rather not tempt the thieves! I've felt the same way. Finger print scanners are one thing, but retinal scanners freak me out.
  21. I think removing SimpleFeatures is more involved, but eroz is correct, renaming the extension to something other than .plg & rebooting... will not reinstall the plugin on reboot.
  22. And for Firefox users: nzbdStatus
  23. Just be careful of selecting "UPS Mail Innovations". I ordered from NewEgg using this about 1-2 years ago. The package was shipped pretty quick from the originating location to a USPS facility near me (took about 3 days, I think to arrive at the Post Office)... where it sat for over a week before they delivered it to my house. I was trying to find out if there was some way I could pick it up from them myself by that point. When I order things directly through USPS it never sits for that long. I read up on "UPS Mail Innovations" & found others having it sit at their local Post Office for over 2 weeks. I tried to not use them again, but ended up having to about 3 months ago. Package took 3 days through USPS again, but was delivered the next day by USPS. So not sure if they have their act together now or if it is just chance. Neither time was near a holiday.
