You might want to try a more recent memtest : https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm The built in is older and do not work well with ECC memory.

Most probably that ; if there is a gap between the drives and the fan, the fan will not pull air through the drives but from the open space.

Yes, the drives are identified by Unraid using their Serial Numbers. Unless the old or the new controller do not pass them through as is, you should be OK. Just as a side note, SATA2 is just fine for HDDs as they cannot saturate the interface (3Gbps). And depending on the model of HBA, it might not be great to attach SSDs to it as older controllers cannot TRIM.

If it worked then it doesn't, the something broke. I'd say either a fan failed or the way you control the fan did. You'll have to investigate.

While by no means guaranteed, something might show on the logs before the crash. Set up a syslog server and post the file after a crash. Your diagnostics would offer more details on your config and might show something ?

What version of the plugin ? What version of Unraid ? Your diagnostics catched after the issue could help the team identify the issue.

So the emulated drive is unmoutable ? If so, a rebuilt will rebuilt an unmoutable file system. In any case, please attach your diagnostics to your next post ; preferably before rebooting.

Did you install Unassigned Devices before trying to install it's optional 'preclear' option ? I suspect that it might be a pre-requisite.

This means that the file already exist on the destination. The mover will never overwrite an existing file. You will have to determine what is the more recent file and delete the other one.
