  1. I couldn't find any reference to this limitation in the board's manual.
  2. Don't know much about that Antec case. It seems to be OK for the price, but I'd advise to take a look at Fractal. Fractal cases are super popular with NAS builders for a reason, e.g. Fractal Node 804 ($125) or Fractal Define 7 (XL) https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/ But the cheaper Fractal Node 804 case is designed to only accept mATX boards. Therefore it's probably a no go for you since it's difficult to find any reasonably priced LGA1200 mATX boards with 8 SATA ports. Fractal Meshify 2 or Define 7 might be better fitting. They have lots of room for expansion, but come with only 6 HDD trays included. I don't know where users get extra trays. I heard it wasn't easy in the past. The situation might have changed by now. Which model of a Corsair PSU? Yes, it's a quality brand overall but every brand has its share of duds. Here's a list of high-end (look for single rail) models to choose from (if fits the budget): https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ Boards with Intel LAN are preferred and work just fine, but Realtek shouldn't give you much of a problem either.
  3. Go with Intel for better implemented C-states.
  4. None btw, i5-13400 and lower CPUs feature downgraded iGPUs - an UHD 730 as opposed to a better UHD 770 built into i5-13500 processors and up.
  5. 46-48C is not particularly hot for a HDD. Warm, but not hot enough to warrant case changes.
  6. He's right on the point of Unraid's learning curve as compared to say Synology.
  7. Were they USB 3.0 or USB 2.0?
  8. Did you mean one of the HDDs?
  9. What do you plan to do with all those cores?
  10. Not quite sure of what kind of performance you have in mind. Generally speaking, Intel is considered to be a more stable and efficient platform (C-states implementation). Included in the chip Intel's iGPUs offer great transcoding performance while consuming very little electricity. I can not see a compelling reason for AMD hardware in a Plex setup.
  11. What are your reasons for a need to switch to AMD and a stand-alone GPU? Instead of upgrading to a more current Intel CPU with iGPU (Quicksync)?
  12. A clear and concise overview for those who are unfamiliar with Unraid. Is not particularly precise with some of used terminology but not bad overall. Hope he rectifies some of the description shortcomings in the in-depth follow up.
  13. NASCompares has picked up on this development:
  14. ECC is not necessary for a Plex server. Especially when working with a limited budget. You can start with https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ Intel's 12100 (non-F sku) with the built-in iGPU should be more than sufficient for transcoding tasks in Plex. Any Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, MSI branded motherboard should not have any problems with Unraid.
  15. Welcome! It should be perfectly sufficient for basic tasks.
  16. Used hardware normally provides the best value option for non-demanding use cases. Look for the 8-11th gen Intel CPU with iGPU (must have no letter "F" in its model number). Any compatible with the CPU major brand motherboard should also work fine. Get 16-32GB of DDR4 RAM which is very cheap even if purchased new. But your budget is big enough even for a brand new set of hardware. e.g. Intel i3-12100 paired with ASUS PRIME H610M-A combined with a set of 32GB (2 x 16GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 RAM sticks for a total of £285 as listed on Amazon. For hardware compatibly: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/
  17. Liquid coolers are generally not recommended for server builds.
  18. Here's a short, nicely written overview: https://adoredtv.com/how-to-choose-the-right-power-supply/ but more importantly, make sure to get a high quality, community tested model: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
  19. They could, if Limetech would bother to put a one-line disclaimer on the download page.
