WireGuard quickstart
I understand that this will not replace certificates, but I want to have this level of control as an additional layer of not peace of mind. This will NOT be on at all times, but only during times that I want to LAN game with someone further away. If a hacker fakes the IP AND has the credentials whilst I am gaming with a friend then good on them, they deserve it.... Also I'm thinking of someone taking advantage of the open port and attacking the WG software behind it. Regardless of that. Think of my use case as allowing someone access to your guest WiFi, trusting them that much and that you let them use your computer, but you don't want them poking around in your network. Not even by bad intentions, but stumbling upon something. Is my desire to have a remote computer-to-computer ad-hoc connection that illegitimate? I have read the first post, hence my question if there is a way to do it. Because it wasn't answered in the first post. The way I understood it there is a way to expose a container to the outside world through this, but then it's one port only if I understand this correctly. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong approach, in that case I'd be glad to receive any further help. My idea is basically really just to have a self-hosted Hamachi-style ad-hoc connection for games. Low-latency, high reliability, free and open-source. Maybe a different software is the key? I understand obscurity isn't a replacement for security or a means for it. It does help with peace of mind though in addition to traditionally secure mechanisms. I feel the more I explain the more we will get lost in the details though... Again, any pointers at how to approach my goal are super appreciated.

WireGuard quickstart
Forgive me that I am not reading 17 pages, but maybe someone knows how to do this: I would love to setup a connection from one client to a specific machine in my network, but in a way that all ports are accessible. My goal is to setup a Hamachi-like connection where two machines can play LAN-only multiplayer games together. So that means an unknown number of ports will need to pass through to ONE machine only. I do NOT want to give access to my entire network and most importantly not to my server and thereby all of its containers accessible on the same IP, etc... Any ideas or am I going to end up using another solution? Also would love to know if there is a way to whitelist connections, so whilst I know that keys should always be treated with confidentiality it'd be nice to know that unexpected IPs won't even make it to the authentication process. My setup would be monitored and not remote. I'd always be able to manually whitelist a new IP I expect to connect.

I did because that's how I got it to work initially after trying all the other things like setting the md5 hash for an empty password, for an actual password I would use and nothing worked... As for mappings, I also mapped within the app itself to /books, I did see my test library when it worked for a short while. latest log: [s6-init] making user provided files available at /var/run/s6/etc...exited 0. [Support] Linuxserver.io - Calibre
Got it to work for one update I think... (one update was successful, iirc) Updated today after receiving a notification in calibre (updated the docker, mind you, as advised) and then it wouldn't load the WebGUI anymore... Well, what are my settings? These: Ports: 11415 for 8080 11416 for 8081 Paths: /mnt/user/EBooks/Calibre/ for /books /mnt/user/EBooks/CalibreImport/ for /import (these WORKED before, I don't have a cache drive and I doubt mapping to a drive would fix it, it didn't before) PUID/PGID default as well as the other settings /mnt/user/appdata/calibre is Appdata Before getting it to work what I did was to remove all folders and data from the appdata directory except for .config/calibre/ and deleting the guacamole user and pass fields from the template. With today's update the user and pass fields got inserted again (naturally) and removing them, the appdata content as mentioned above and re-installing the container, but no, stays broken... Edit: I hope it's not rude to ping you, @jonathanm? Appreciate any help I can get with this.

[Support] Linuxserver.io - Calibre
Welcome to the party, at this point I'm convinced the container is fundamentally broken/way too finicky to be reasonably maintainable by an average user. I have no idea where to troubleshoot next and since only some of the users in here seem to have gotten the help they needed I think some got lucky and some didn't with their config. If only it was running once it's running... But to see it work once, then not anymore after a reset of the container is disheartening and frankly speaking has broken my trust I might have once it may be running for more than an hour. I'm out of ideas at this point.

That didn't do the trick. (my setup doesn't have a cache drive by the way, so I used what's disk3 in my case) Why is it important not to restart the application? And why do I hear about this just now that it's so important when the application will literally asks you at several places to restart the application? I'm not questioning you btw, just trying to piece together how this being a common prompt and the container reacting sensitive to it fit together. (oh and I'm aware the Calibre developer isn't to blame either, they cannot anticipate the environment we are using Calibre in. My question isn't about that ) Extending on that, I suppose when Calibre asks me to restart the application in future I will just let it sit at that prompt and restart the container instead? Good to know that they are the same dev then, that certainly gives me hope that eventually when my setup IS running it will probably remain ok, since RDP-Calibre had been a nice little treat. Edit: browsed the log a little more and found this part, any ideas? rdpRRGetInfo: Obt-Message: Xinerama extension is not present on the server rdpInDeferredUpdateCallback: rdpkeybChangeKeyboardControl: rdpkeybChangeKeyboardControl: autoRepeat off Openbox-Message: Unable to find a valid menu file "/var/lib/openbox/debian-menu.xml" guacd[432]: INFO: Guacamole connection closed during handshake Connection failure: Connection refused pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused s6-svwait: fatal: timed out s6-svwait: fatal: timed out rdpRRGetInfo: QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-abc' qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 148 (Unknown), sequence: 181, resource id: 0, major code: 140 (Unknown), minor code: 20 libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile DBusExport: Failed to connect to DBUS session bus, with error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Using X11 for dbus-daemon autolaunch was disabled at compile time, set your DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS instead Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/notify.py", line 159, in get_notifier File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/notify.py", line 89, in get_dbus_notifier File "site-packages/dbus/_dbus.py", line 211, in __new__ File "site-packages/dbus/_dbus.py", line 100, in __new__ File "site-packages/dbus/bus.py", line 122, in __new__ DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Using X11 for dbus-daemon autolaunch was disabled at compile time, set your DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS instead s6-svwait: fatal: timed out s6-svwait: fatal: timed out s6-svwait: fatal: timed out Edit 2: not even removing the GUAC user and pass fields helped... whew lads... This container is a real princess. I really wanted to run with authentication, now I finally settled for skipping it (at least for now) and not even the workaround that seemed to help a few guys on the previous page has helped me. Now my strategy is to try two things: 1) remove (with image) the container and reinstall without those fields again. 2) figure out where GUAC settings are stored in contrast to Calibre's so I can try wiping the right bits rather than my Calibre settings?

So after many WEEKS of not being able to run it... I was able to get into the web GUI this ONE time. (after deleting the appdata folder for calibre) I set it up nicely, manually carrying over my settings from my old RDP-Calibre install, trying to do it manually so I don't carry over old junk... I restarted the application itself (not the entire container) several times throughout whenever the Calibre suggested it's best to do for settings to take effect. Then I did one final restart of the container because I wanted to set a new password... And things went downhill. Again the same old problem: no login page. Just the good old timeout and the same error messages that apparently every other guy in this thread is getting. (s6-svwait: fatal: timed out) Changing back to the old empty password hash didn't do it either. I will NOT again delete the appdata folder, because that got it to work last time, because I REALLY don't want to set it all up again and then probably end up with a borked installation again after one reset of the container... Something must be fundamentally wrong here. Either way, here's the docker run command: docker run -d --name='calibre' --net='bridge' -e TZ="Europe/Berlin" -e HOST_OS="Unraid" -e 'GUAC_USER'='<MYNAME>' -e 'GUAC_PASS'='<MD5HASHOFPASSWORD>' -e 'PUID'='99' -e 'PGID'='100' -p '11415:8080/tcp' -p '11416:8081/tcp' -v '/mnt/user/EBooks/Calibre/':'/books':'rw' -v '/mnt/user/EBooks/CalibreImport/':'/import':'rw' -v '/mnt/user/appdata/calibre':'/config':'rw' 'linuxserver/calibre' I am losing my mind over this container... I really miss RDP-Calibre, because it at least worked. It's a shame it isn't maintained anymore. Kudos to its dev though for setting up a message so that Fix Common Problems would alert me to the fact that it's deprecated. That was a real gentleman move.

Update: The part about removing a default entry and creating a custom port mapping worked, thanks! ____________________________________________________________________ Unfortunately the GUI page is timing out. I recently borked this container and had to reinstall and I might not have set the correct preferences at first... I used to have this running, but now several restarts of the container, forced updates, deleting the conf file and even redownloading the VPN profile didn't help. [SOLVED] HP DL380e Gen8 - USB 3?
Follow up for anyone wanting to do the same: the USB3 card I bought definitely needs additional power to function! No IOMMU disable is required, all I had to do was buy an adapter that turns full SATA into Slimline SATA. Attach the SATA cable that came with the card to the adapter and plug it into the full-size SATA port that is conveniently located right next to the PCIe expansion slots. You want an adapter like this one: "Slimline SATA to SATA Adapter with Power - F/M (SLSATAADAP)" Amazon.de link to check out the picture. No affiliate link! Cheers!

[SOLVED] HP DL380e Gen8 - USB 3?
I don't want to pass-through my USB 3.0 card, unRAID only is fine. Disabling IOMMU is system-wide or per device? Any drawbacks like hypervisor performance or such? I do have VMs, but they don't need USB3

[SOLVED] HP DL380e Gen8 - USB 3?
Heya guys! I'm trying to add USB 3.0 to my DL380e right now. The card I bought is an HP branded card to avoid the fan noise issue us HP users know and hate... Either way, the card I got is the "HP SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCIe x1 Card" (part no. 663213-001). I installed it and it got recognized in unRAID: IOMMU group 23: [104c:8241] 0d:00.0 USB controller: Texas Instruments TUSB73x0 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 xHCI Host Controller (rev 02) All fine, all good... or is it? I attach my 3.5" WD Elements drive to it (with external power) but it doesn't work.... No new unassigned drive. With the built-in 2.0 ports it get recognized. The main reason I bought this card was that it is a nice way to pre-clear a drive at least for 1 pass at acceptable speed before I go ahead and shuck it. (I'd pre-clear at least with another pass after shucking, but before I risk breaking a tab despite some training... I'd rather like to know it's worth pulling it apart) Syslog: Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: ACPI: Early table checksum verification disabled Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: ACPI BIOS Warning (bug): Invalid length for FADT/Pm1aControlBlock: 32, using default 16 (20180810/tbfadt-674) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: ACPI BIOS Warning (bug): Invalid length for FADT/Pm2ControlBlock: 32, using default 8 (20180810/tbfadt-674) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: acpi PNP0A08:00: _OSC failed (AE_SUPPORT); disabling ASPM Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: acpi PNP0A08:01: _OSC failed (AE_SUPPORT); disabling ASPM Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: pci_bus 0000:1f: busn_res: can not insert [bus 1f-ff] under domain [bus 00-ff] (conflicts with (null) [bus 00-1f]) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: pci_bus 0000:1f: busn_res: can not insert [bus 1f] under domain [bus 00-ff] (conflicts with (null) [bus 00-1f]) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: pci_bus 0000:3f: busn_res: can not insert [bus 3f-ff] under domain [bus 00-ff] (conflicts with (null) [bus 20-3f]) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: pci_bus 0000:3f: busn_res: can not insert [bus 3f] under domain [bus 00-ff] (conflicts with (null) [bus 20-3f]) Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: pci 0000:0a:00.0: BAR 6: failed to assign [mem size 0x00100000 pref] Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: floppy0: no floppy controllers found Sep 16 20:19:15 Ahri kernel: random: 6 urandom warning(s) missed due to ratelimiting Sep 16 20:20:16 Ahri rpc.statd[2403]: Failed to read /var/lib/nfs/state: Success Sep 16 20:20:34 Ahri avahi-daemon[6741]: WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing nss-mdns! My assumption is my card isn't liking that I haven't attached the SATA power connector to it, but I read that it should be good to go without SATA power as long as the devices attached don't need power from the USB port? If that's the case I'll go ahead and buy the needed SATA slimline to SATA power connector adapter, but if I can do without that'd clearly be preferable. Or maybe the card isn't fit for a DL380e G8 with unRAID to begin with and I can discard that idea right away...? I know it's not advertised as compatible for DL380 servers but rather for workstations and the like, but adding USB3 at a low cost would REALLY be a massive quality of life upgrade for me. I could make good use of the second port for something like a backup drive that I can disconnect at will or to pull data from drives. Any ideas? Thank you so much in advance.

HP DL380e Gen8 fan control
Were you able to get more than 42TB to run ok with the H220 and if so with which firmware? I'm not anywhere near 42TB myself, I'll have like 20TB when my first stage of deployment (transitioning from external HDDs to unRAID and consequently shucking them) is done, but I'd like to know what the outlook is. Add 3 8TB drives for example and I'll be there myself. As for fan speed... ProLiants just favor higher rpm to begin with, adding something the system doesn't recognize as HPE equipment can dramatically screw up your rpms and to be frank, you did well with 55%, I suffered from 100% for some time. All fixed now though. My ProLiant loves its H220 a lot. Would need to check what the fan speed is right now on my server, but it's alright, no motivation to run the cable for iLO now.

[Support] binhex - qBittorrentVPN
Hmm, very interesting. Thank you for the explanation. I think it's reasonable to assume that a VPN'd Privoxy docker provides more value than a VM setup for a JDownloader instance. Since all it does is establish connections to OCHs not through APIs but acting as a browser (afaik) it'll be going through that all the times anyways. Either way, successfully set up SABnzbdvpn already - rest to follow, seems to be working wonderfully!

Interesting. Do you know why traditional kill switches are so unreliable? Mind you, I don't mean a kill switch that kills a specific app if the VPN app sees a connection go down. My experience on my Mac is pretty much that I'll often see a page not loading even before the VPN app tells me the connection died and then proceeds to re-establish a new connection. I hear what you say, that configuration is time consuming and I definitely don't want to sound like I'm not grateful for your dedication and helping out the community, obviously you don't limit your app choice for no reason and do all the work when it's not necessary, however I feel like the whole time I had been using VPN network kill switches under the assumption they are reliable and now it's all just a lie? Would it be possible to set up something like a virtual router in a VM that's more reliable and then wire it up to dockers? Again, not like I wouldn't like to use your docker apps, but in Germany for example one click hosters are HUGE. Guess that's because they let you monetize downloads aggressively. Obviously I would love to avoid them entirely, but German torrents are often dead a LOT faster than English ones for example. I guess those issues are very similar beyond the English speaking hemisphere.

Ooof... At what point would it be easier to just have a VPN client container with a built-in firewall that I connect official/any downloading dockers to as tunnel and with a killswitch? That's all I want. Would also only need to run one VPN connection at a time and be able to use it for, well, anything. As it is, I'm limited to HTTPS and trusting the docker not leaking through background processes or somehow else. I just wanna set up qBittorrent, SABnzbd and JDownloader and maybe who knows anything else I might want to add in the future and tell them all on "system-level" within the docker to use the VPN docker's tunnel as network interface or bust. There, no reason to "trust" any given app I may want to tunnel. Or am I missing something here because of the glaring lack of a simple one-stop solution for this? Is there any hurdle? Or am I in the end of the day better off setting up a VM for this with the official client app? Would love to keep it lightweight though and manageable through the docker section. Cheers! PS: Would it be possible to add NordVPN to the pre-configured providers?

[Support] Linuxserver.io - COPS (Calibre OPDS PHP Server)
Does COPS support two-way sync of reading progress? Also, bonus question: which app would I best use on Android to keep my device and server in-sync? I know about Calibre Companion, but as far as I can tell a companion that doesn't read itself will always rely on the reader app relaying read progress to it......... I've been using computers long enough to know that mixing too many programs often tends to create a lot of friction and cases where you need to troubleshoot or stuff just isn't optimized... yadda yadda... tl;dr: I think what I'm looking for is a CC-like app that will also be a good reader app. When reading with Moon+ I noticed it didn't save page progress nor bookmarks... kinda defeats the purpose of integrating syncing all that if you ask me and Moon+ is apparently what "everyone" and the CC makers themselves heavily focus on. Is this as good as it gets? Manually triggering "read progress: complete" on every book that I finish manually and if my Android device gets lost I have to figure out which books I had been reading, where I stopped, what I bookmarked, etc? That's before even considering multi-device usage. Trust me, I really searched for option, but I cannot seem to find satisfying options and every app description I read talks all about what is possible but won't tell you about the little details... And as we all know... the devil is in the detail. Sorry if this is kinda-hijacking the thread, but I'm fairly new to Calibre and I am not quite sure how specific this might be to COPS, so I figured I'd best ask in the most specific place that applies to me.

OpenVPN Server & Client for unRAID 6.2+ (6.1 are still supported)
Hmmm, on that note: if I connect to my VPN _per docker_ that means I'm multiplying my VPN overhead, depend on binhex' release schedule (not implying anything, just saying that I'm totally new to unRAID AND Docker so just throwing out there what's crossing my mind) and then there's the issue with not every application desirable being available as binhex vpn docker. I've seen that you can use a docker like that as proxy for other dockers, but my line of thought is that I'm relying on the application within a docker to apply the proxy connection leaving possible (unknown) background processes un-routed through the proxy. The beauty (but also a pain point in other ways) of VPNs on a classic desktop is after all a one-setup experience. Connect once, route everything or nothing. Major application missing an obvious VPN path to me right now is jDownloader. Theoretically I could just set up a VM, install my VPN's application in there, add the applications I want to the mix and have them all download to a share. Waaaaaaaaay less elegant, but at least a catch-all approach. The VM itself would obviously be configured with a firewall. Is that a lot of overhead? Sure is. Is that a great concern? Well.... 16 physical cores and 48GB of RAM say: we can do it. Despite all of that, I'd still favor the leanest approach for obvious reasons. Surely there's something I'm missing or something I misunderstood?

[Support] for atribe's repo Docker images
Can't get the Minecraft server to properly run. The log is filled with this error or variations of it: [Server thread/ERROR]: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded Now the server did show up in my Minecraft client (so broadcast works), but connecting to it failed as well. Anything obvious I missed or should check? Settings I used: mojang latest server build, imported worlds of various sizes from my local client (the goal is to make this server basically a 1-2 user environment so I have my Minecraft clients across different OS's or computers as "thin clients" and I won't have to deal with keeping my worlds in-sync anymore by hand. ) Edit: Okay, so I did some further Googling and as it turns out, adjusting the values for Xmx and Xms way above what the (apparently too old) tutorial I checked out suggested. My values are now 4096MB for Xmx and 512MB for Xms. That fixed it for vanilla, mojang-build (latest) based servers. Glad I can now finally centralize my Minecraft experience and even facilitate any folks coming over to my house to play together. Good times!

How much RAM do you have installed in your unRAID server?
48GB of DDR3 ECC UDIMM. Will expend it to 96GB later this year I think. It'll be overkill, but I like having room to grow and so far I've only populated 3 of my 12 slots. Enterprise gear is fun.

file browser in webui
How is this not a thing? The tiniest tiniest Linux distro out there will include a file manager, because guess what's it's VERY handy... Right now I'm looking at my "root share" and although I included the browser I'm browsing as for specific shares for read and write access, when browsing through the root share I don't have that access consistently. This is especially cumbersome when trying to move stuff between shares. Don't MC me. Is it a PEBKAC error? Oh I bet it is. Do I feel like troubleshooting silly permission problems when all I want to do is move stuff around so I can get on with my life and my newly set up server that still has a bucket list of things that need to be worked on? Well, no of course not.

[Support] ich777 - Gameserver Dockers
Haven't tested these so far, just wanted to say thank you for providing all of these! Let it be known that I very much appreciate the prospect of letting my unRAID practically take care of anything. Makes me wonder: do I even need a desktop computer anymore? *snickers* (well strong yes, but between this and being able to run games on the server itself with some catchy PCIe pass-through... Latter of which I don't intend on implementing for a while though)

[Support] Linuxserver.io - Plex Media Server
I still have my old docker appdata folder for Plex, I could compare the two folders. Any file in particular I should take a more intensive look at? Like a file the configs the internal webserver or something? Before the migration I could access the WebUI just fine... Edit: I think I meant too well for my Plex config... I carried over ALL entries of the plist to the XML. The conversion itself was alright, because I did it manually one by one, but I should have only replaced the entries' values that the default Preferences.xml file had. After that fix permissions (unRAID > Tools > New Permissions | select all disks and feel free to only fix the appdata share). Fire up Plex, boom! Works! The rest of the guide I linked works perfectly fine. Importantly, take care of the location of your media content as outlined there. Keep old places in the settings, let it all scan and then I think you're free to remove the old locations. Now my weekend project shall be to migrate my iTunes library to Plex. *gulp* Going cross-plat, cross-device, cross-application, cross-anything. That's gonna be a wild ride.

[Support] Linuxserver.io - Plex Media Server
I feel like a child relearning computing all over again... There's just 2 dockers that worked frictionless so far... That being said, this might not be a Docker issue... Basically what happened is this: I have a PMS already set up on my Mac, now I want to move its settings, play counts, media to my new unRAID server and use Plex in a docker, this docker. I followed this tutorial: https://forums.plex.tv/t/migrate-from-osx-to-ubuntu/168608/13 And after restoring my profile folder to the correct location and putting my media in the share that is mapped to the container path /media I cannot access my server anymore whatsoever. It's certainly started and remains started, but when I click on it and go to WebUI all I get is a nasty "Cannot connect" page. Before restoring my old profile the server WAS accessible using the same address, port, browser constellation...
