The AOC-SASLP-MV8 is not recommended these days. There is a long thread on recommeded controllers to use with Unraid. I do not know how many total drives you plan to have, but fewer larger drives is generally better than many smaller drives. Depending on how many drives you plan to have and how many SATA ports your MB has, you may or may not need a PCIe controllers. I have a Dell H310 controller in IT mode in my Main server. These days, I consider 8TB the smallest HDD I will purchase. I have three Unraid servers (see my signature for details) with an i5-11600 on the low end to a Xeon E-2288G on the high end. However, depending on your Plex transcoding needs, an i3 may be sufficient. Some are even doing fine with Pentium processors. Personally, I would look for a motherboard with a couple of M.2 slots as you can use these for cache/pool drives without requiring a SATA connection. If getting a new PSU, make sure it has a single 12V rail.

The Ubiquiti crowd knows what this is because performance was greatly decreased on the USG and UDR with these features turned on and there were many complaints. Fortunately, the UXG-Lite has addressed that and it gets very close to 1Gb even with these turned on. Thus, the claim of "up to 10x routing performance increase over the USG (tested with IPS/IDS, QoS, and Smart Queues)"

UXG-Lite was in and out of stock twice in the Ubiquiti US store before I finally got one on Monday on the third try (out of stock again later that night). Fortunately, I live very close to one of their US warehouses so I got it delivered two days after ordering. It is in short supply everywhere.

The USG I just took out of service yesterday was running fine with the 8.0.24 version of this controller. I replaced the USG with the new UXG-Lite which also has no buit-in controller. It is working very well in this controller. The older (but not too old) Dream Router and the new UniFi Express both have a built-in controller and cannot be managed by this, or any other, controller container or cloud key.

Other new products are rumored to be in the pipeline with 2.5 GBe ports and coming "soon." 1 GBe is good enough for me now as well and at $129, the UXG-Lite is not too expensive.

For those with the USG 3P gateway from Ubiquiti, the new replacement, the UXG-Lite, is finally in stock again at the Ubiquiti US store. It has been hard to find in stock since release a month ago. It is permanently off via Tips and Tweaks. No on/off schedule. With previous versions of Tips and Tweaks it was also off. I had server crashing issues with certain processes with Turbo Boost on. Has been off through several versions of Unraid.

I have three servers running 6.12.6. My main server has turbo boost disabled via the tips and tweaks plugin. I have seen none of the problems with system hangs or power off issues that you describe.

Personally, I thank you for that. I will be using your documentation to migrate my current LSIO Unifi container to their new dual-container solution. It will only be a backup to Unifi-Controller-Reborn for me, but at least you made some sense of it when all that existed before was a bit convoluted and seemed to be missing some important information. Anyone choosing to stick with the LSIO solution should be very grateful for you efforts.

I have been running Unraid for 12 years and a Unifi network for six years. I have used the LSIO versions of the Unifi Network Controller containers since I started with Unifi. When it was announced the LSIO container would be split into two containers, I thought I'd give the single container solution from @PeteAsking a try. It installed without a hitch and I am now running it with version 8.0.7 of the controller. PeteAsking has been very active in this particular forum and knows his stuff when it comes to the Unifi infrastructure; however, I do understand the angst of a single maintainer vs. the resources of LSIO behind their solution. Personally, I plan to stick with the "controller-reborn" version. As a backup, I will likely transition my currently inactive LSIO controller container to their new dual-container version but I personally prefer what PeteAsking has done.

Attach your diagnostics. Were any of the WD 8TB drives shucked from external enclosures? If so you may have the 3.3v reset problem.

To further illustrate the point made by @ConnerVT here is a note from Plex regarding video transcoding with AMD GPUs: *Note: Our hardware-transcoding system has technical support for many dedicated AMD graphics cards, but we haven’t done official, full testing on those. Support for AMD GPUs is provided “as is” and your mileage may vary. It is recommended that you use Intel Quick Sync Video or a dedicated NVIDIA GPU.

Did you run the appropriate make_bootable file (Windows, Mac or Linux) from the /config folder on the flash drive after the manual install attempt?

Yes, @PeteAsking has done a great job putting together this container. No offense to him, but if he can make this all-in-one docker container which just works, why does LSIO feel they have to go the separate MongoDB route? I am certainly pleased that someone stepped in to save us from that.

Yep. The missing features on self-hosted controllers are of no concern to me now. I just hope it does not become a trend with things I do want/need.

Unifi Teleport VPN and Site Magic for this round. This is the first time a Unifi self-hosted controller has not been equal to one running on Ubiquiti hardware or their cloud controller. "Teleport is a zero-configuration VPN that allows you to instantly connect to your UniFi network from a remote location. Users with a Next-Gen gateway or UniFi Cloud Gateway running UniFi OS can access it from Network Settings > Teleport & VPN." Here is a quote from a recent review of the UXG-Lite that expresses some concern for where this may be headed: It’s interesting these features are not supported on self-hosted UniFi Network application installs. It seems like an indication of where they are guiding their customers. The UniFi Network software has always been available for free, but this is the first time a feature line has been drawn between self-hosted and “officially” hosted. It’s possible that more features like this are added over time. Essentially, for a few of the newest and fanciest features, self-hosted controllers aren’t included. These limitations make some sense, but calling it out on the spec sheet makes it feel like a purposeful design choice and business decision. Maybe there is a technical challenge I’m not seeing, but it feels like a subtle way to encourage hardware sales. At best, it is disappointing. At worst, it’s a sign that self-hosted controllers are becoming second class citizens.

Just updated to this Unifi Network Controller container. Installed it and restored 8.0.7 backup file with no issues noted so far. Thank you. An all-in-one container is much preferred to the split docker container path LSIO has implemented. Now the biggest question is how long Ubiquiti will support self-hosted controllers without severely limiting them. They have taken the first step towards that with their latest hardware and controller releases. It looks like they are going to start favoring their own hardware and cloud controller solutions for some advanced features and not supporting them with self-hosted controllers. Now to wait for the new UXG-Lite to come back in stock at ui.com so I can replace my very old USG router/gateway. The new Unifi Express (built in network controller) is not an option because it supports a maximum of five connected Unifi devices (access points, switches, other Express units in a mesh configuration, etc.) and I currently am managing eight (plus USG) with this controller. NOTE: just learned the Unifi Express supports only four additional devices as the Express itself counts in the 5-device limit.

Are you aware of this known issue with Unraid 6.12.x releases? Since hardware transcoding uses the i915 driver, perhaps this will help. I had to do this on my server with an i5 11600 CPU to stabilize the i915 drivers. In short, 11th gen Intel CPUs have issues with low power settings with recent Linux kernels. This change disables the low power mode on the 11th gen. CPUs. Known issues Crashes related to i915 driver We are aware that some 11th gen Intel Rocket Lake systems are experiencing crashes related to the i915 iGPU. If your Rocket Lake system crashes under Unraid 6.12.0, open a web terminal and type this, then reboot: echo "options i915 enable_dc=0" >> /boot/config/modprobe.d/i915.conf Setting this option may result in higher power use but it may resolve this issue for these GPUs.

You might find them on eBay. Also, there is an older thread in these forums on card readers that have a unique GUID and work with Unraid. I will link it when I find it but I am headed out the door right now for a few hours.

This is exactly what I do. Two of my three Unraid servers use Kingston Mobilite G2 or G3 (no longer available) card readers for the Unraid flash drive. I use the other slot in the card reader for the syslog. Been using these readers for 10+ years with no issues.

It is normal to have a User and User0 folder. User0 is the same view as User but leaves out the cache/pool drives. User0 is mainly for internal Unraid use. If you provide more details about your issues with Unraid and the diagnostics (might want to start a separate thread for that), some of the experts here may be able to give you some pointers to get you headed in the right direction.

I updated the post a bit to hopefully make it more clear there was a link in it. I can see how that would be missed.
