Alright, I finally am throwing in the towel and asking for help. I've been trying to get plex working for me off and on for the past 4 months. With the recent RC, I decided to give it another go.

 

System:

unRaid version 5.0-rc2

 

Plugin:

Plex v0.9.6.1.89-3c84bb7

 

Other Plugins:

CouchPotato version 62742a6

SABnzbd 0.6.15

Sick Beard alpha (master)

Subsonic 4.6 (build 2583)

unMenu version 1.5 revision 241

 

I started from complete scratch the other day, and outside of some minor permission issues on a couple of files, I managed to pull in all my TV and Movies, scrap the data, and can stream just fine both inside and outside of the network. However, the issue arrises on new downloads.

 

I'm using the usual download with SAB, Sick Beard organizes, and then tells Plex to update process everyone else uses. However, after I get the email saying my download is complete and try to watch it, I get an error:

I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. I've played with chmod, chown, I can play the files in VLC just fine and my MacMinis PMS just fine, but not the unRaid PMS. If anymore logs are needed, I will gladly supply anything. I just want to move the PMS off my MacMini already.

 

 

 

Since no one ever replied to this, and I figured if anyone else has this problem, they'd like to know the answer. I had SickBeard running as root when I first installed it, because I couldn't get it to read my TV show directory without it. (This was before I learned of chmod/chown) . After I had reinstalled all my plugins, I made sure SB, CP, and SAB were all running as nobody.

 

Plex was still having some issues pulling in new content, so I moved all of my plugins out of

 

/mnt/cache/.Apps/

 

And made a cache-only share of

 

/mnt/user/Apps/

 

Deleted all the existing sections in Plex, then ran

 

chmod -R -0777 /mnt/user/Media/
chown -R nobody:users /mnt/user/Media/

 

Redid the sections, and now everything is working perfectly. Plex doesn't randomly need restarted, it updates after new shows/movies, has no problems pulling in all the metadata, and I have no memory leaks. It only took weeks of learning new things about permission, but, everything is good.

 

Your chmod line has confused me (and my unRAID). chmod 777 would give permissions to everyone (even those outside your group) if I understand correctly - not sure what -0777 is meant to do , and unRAID throws an error if I try it.

when they release an "official" version of 0.9.6.2, you will be able to update through the webinterface.

Hi guys,

 

Not much to go on but I'm finding that with the latest version (v0.9.6.1.89-3c84bb7) and any version after 0.9.5.2 that PMS crashes about every 24 hours. 0.9.5.2 was perfectly stable before that.

 

I can't see anything obvious in my sys log or the Plex log (both attached). Any pointers on where to start as I'd love to have the DLNA functionality and not have to revert back to 0.9.5.2.

 

Running RC3 now, problem was the same on RC2 and b14 before that.

I'm having the same issue - haven't tracked it down yet, but appears to be something to do with the Windows client accessing Plex.  (If I only use the iPad client or other DLNA sources, it stays up for ages.)

 

I'd guess it's a plex issue, but not having much luck tracking it down at this stage.  I'm probably being a bit lazy though - if it happens, I just kill the plex processes and restart Plex.. haven't bothered to chase it up further.

As a temporary measure, I've put this in my .plg file and restarted the PMS.

 

This was splidi's suggestion and I'm not familiar with setting up a cron job.

 

Will this restart the PMS every morning?

Yes that will restart plex every morning at 4:40 AM

seeing the same thing here, but I have some many friends sharing it that I can't say exactly what might be causing it...

For some reason everything is working except for TV Shows.  Anyone else have this problem?

Thought I'd add my experience.

 

I've been experiencing Plex failures (process still appear active but fail to serve media and dont register to myplex) after a few hours of operation.

 

I changed my data directory from /mnt/cache/.plex to /mnt/cache/plex and configured it to be a cache only share.  Plex has been up and running for almost a week without restarts so far. 

 

So could it be that Plex doesn't like the dot in the directory name?

That is an issue that has been talked about for a while... unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my issue since I made that change some time ago. What is strange is that it is very similar behavior to what I was seeing when this ended up being the solution....

This could be it as originally I was running plex not in a hidden folder, and it was fine.  However, I don't really want to revert back as the whole purpose of the folder being hidden is to hide it from the mover process, so it doesn't end up moving the 14 billion files that Plex holds in its Application Support folder over to the array.

Hi guys I am wanting to add in some dnla profiles but I am not allowed to browse to the share and place a file.  I managed to get one there via telnet and cp it from another location but the pemrissions on the new file don't look right and plex complained about not being able to parse it.  What is the reason there is a plex user and not run as nobody like other apps and seconldy how do i get it so I can browse and upload new dnls profiles that plex then has permissions for??

Is someone intrested in testing the new PMS 0.9.6.3 package?

but at the moment there's no possibility to change settings thought the webinterface.

I definitely want to upgrade to 9.6.3.  One the faster database will be huge, and 2 the DLNA support in the previous version was so buggy that nothing I tried worked.  It looks as though many of the issues I was running into are now fixed.  So I can finally finish several of the DLNA profiles that I started.

 

However, quick question.  How long do you think it will take to get the new updated plugin working?  If it will take more than a day, I'll just try to install it myself.
