[Support] Linuxserver.io - Plex Media Server

[Yes, somehow my searching bumped me to the wrong support thread earlier, so this may be deva ju for some]

With the advent of the Plex DVR, I'd like to find a way to run comskip as a post-processing option.  This looks to be fairly straightforward in a traditional installation, but I'm looking for some ideas on how to do this with Plex in a container on UnRaid.

I've spent a few hours looking into it, and the possibilities seem to be:

1) Extend the Plex container to also contain install ffmpeg and comskip - Seems like a maintenance hassle.

2) Try to compile a static version of comskip and place it in /config - this seems really hacky.

3) Build a proper comskip container - Can't find a way to have Plex call comskip.

Any suggestions for a more elegant way of doing this?

Thanks

I think you've got the options right, I can't see us adding comskip into the container, especially as Plex DVR is rudimentary at the moment to say the least, afaik it supports only the HD Homerun devices, with no support for native DVB devices.  It's certainly of no use to us in Europe at the moment.

Sure I've seen a similar post recently, but i can't place where...  ;)

Just wanted to chime in on this - HDHomerun do offer a device suitable for Europe. I can confirm this as I own one! I would also be interested in a way to leverage comskip - though how this can be achieved I'm completely unsure, as I'm not a developer.

So they do, I stand corrected, I do however stand by my assessment of Plex DVR.  Any DVR that only supports HDHomerun isn't exactly bringing it to the masses...

That's a fair point. I do believe though that this is just the starting point. I've tried Plex DVR but admit I'm not using it full time at the moment. Hopefully as the software becomes more mature and more devices are supported the popularity will increase too.

On a side note, thanks for all the work you guys have put into this container - has worked flawlessly ever since I installed. Keep up the great work! ?

I'm aware the DVR Beta version numbers are to be kept a secret. I'm still struggling with the formatting though. No matter what combination I use, I can't seem to get it launch using the DVR Beta 3 version.

I have tried:

#.#.#.####-lettersandnumbers-letterandnumber-name

#.#.#.####-lettersandnumbers-letterandnumber

#.#.#.####-lettersandnumbers

#.#.#.####

None will launch the proper version. I'm feeling pretty stupid here, could someone who has the latest Beta working help me out?

Thanks!

If it's a plexpass exclusive feature and anyone publishes it here, the post will be deleted.  Consider this a warning.  We've been in discussions with Plex before regarding ensuring that plexpass features are only available to subscribers, and we don't want to upset them.

That's why I blanked them out. I'm not asking for the version number, I have that as a paying plex pass subscriber. I'm asking for help with the format. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Surely the format isn't a legal issue.

It wasn't so much a warning to you, but to anyone who may post on a PUBLIC forum, something which we don't want them to.

Guys having a bit of weird issue with plex. For some reason for the last 2 nights around 11pm GMT my plex server has lost connection. Yesterday I looked at the logs and noticed a sub zero subtitled plugin was showing up so disabled that. Checked for updates and even restarted docker.

Same thing at 11pm it stopped again...

Docker log showing it cant find files from this location:

I would just delete the docker.img and re-add the apps again from CA's previous apps and see what happens

Is the network set to host or bridge in the template? Should be set to host.

Arndroid, can you try navigating to /mnt/user/appdata/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and change the name of Preferences.xml or move it somewhere.

It will reset Plex to default but not cause you to lose your library database.

Alternatively, you could post it here, BUT be very careful to sanitise it for usernames/passwords/tokens, so I wouldn't recommend this.

Also change /mnt/user/appdata/plex to mnt/cache/appdata/plex too.

I've seen this issue before when I've experimented with bridge networking this container?  Have you ever activated bridge?

Not since I reinstalled this docker. But I have done it before yes, it was in attempt to fix this issue I believe. Or it has been messed up since, not sure how it went down.

I've got this issue for some time now, heh.

Cool, I renamed the "Preferences.xml" to "Backup_Preferences.xml".

*Gasps as I was restarting the docker and came back to this post* IT WORKS AGAIN! :D

Thank you so much, I've had this issue for a long while now. Great to see it back working again! ^_^

Edit: The new Preferences.xml seems to have a good few differences from my old one. Must've updated it once without reading some notes I suppose...

Thanks again! :D

Hey!

I just reinstalled my unraid and now I wonder if there's any advantages going plex in a docker?

Last time I had plex running as plugin and had no problems with it, should I continue with that you think or should I go with this docker instead?

Thanks,

TrueType

Docker is the way forward for these kinds of applications.

lol  I think by posting that question in the lsio docker thread the answer is going to be self-evident...

Docker's have significant advantages over plugins in terms of maintainability, security, etc but setting them up (in particular, understanding how host volume mapping works) has a small learning curve.  Peruse the docker FAQ and hopefully it'll get you there.

Hehe, well, yeah. But that was kind of what I was hoping for.

I feel like the plugins part in Unraid is not for these types of applications in the future, plugins is more like CA and PreClear etc. But I dunno :P

I've used unraid in a year now and the dockers have never struggled, but now after the auto 6.2 update the normal plugins were affected (except Plex plugin, no offense to PhAzE, his work is awesome!). So I think I will try all docker this time.  ;D
