Did you ever find a solution to this? I would like to be able to connect my Kobo to unraid vis USB and have it show up in calibre to manage books more easily.

Did you ever get this figured out?

  • For those trying to figure out how to add this extra variable to the docker template, you need to go to 'advanced' view (slider in the upper-right corner) and then look for the 'Extra parameters' sect

    They show an option on the Github page for "--security-opt seccomp=unconfined" that fixes this on the docker image. It's mentioned in some issues: https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-calibre/issues/

Is there something I'm missing, should there not be a Library and/or other mount path arguments in the template setup? Do I need to add these manually to mount my library/media share?  First time trying to setup calibre using this image.

After leaving my Calibre docker off for a long while, I tried to start it and add a new book, but I was getting constant and immediate "Server Error". No logs (log didn't have time to even start). Not sure what happened there.

After reading a bit here, decided to try changing the network from Bridge to Host and bing... eveyrthing working again. On Unraid 6.12.10 (and probably the last time I ran Calibre before was still with Unraid 6.11). I typically only run Calibre Web as I prefer this UI to browse my library, but adding books, converting, etc. is still only withg the main Calibre docker

After Calibre has been running for a while, it ends spitting this out:

```
Obt-Message: Xinerama extension is not present on the server
Openbox-Message: A window manager is already running on screen 0
```

and the CPU is pinned. Restarting the container works.

I was thinking about installing this docker since Calibre seems to be very popular recently but it appears that most of the users have unresolved issues and there isn’t much support. Am I wrong?

Also looks like Calibre doesn’t work with iBooks on iOS but I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info about that. Can iBooks be linked with Calibre?

I‘ve setup a calibre server and it is working. Is ist possible to download (without usb cable) the books to a kindle? I don‘t want to read on a browser. Therefor we have a few kindle.

If you have an Amazon Kindle email ([email protected]) and your ebooks are epub, then you can simply email your book to your Kindle email with your Calibre "sharing book by email" function. Your Kindle book reader will then automatically download it from Amazon cloud. Off course, your Kindle reader must have wifi turned on.

I'm getting this in my Calibre log, repeating every 6-7 seconds. I'm on the latest version as well...

sed: couldn't flush stdout: Invalid argument

Is there anything I can do to track this down and eliminate it?

So my docker image filled up to over 50GB.

I think it is because there is only one config mapping for library and files and appdata? I am not sure... but it is definitely something weird.

Did a container size look and this is what I got:

I'm running Unraid Pro 6.12.13  and am having the this problem when trying to install the Calibre docker..

Error: failed to register layer: write /usr/libexec/docker/cli-plugins/docker-compose: no space left on device

I don't even have that directory in my Unraid system.  It's as if it's doing a linux system instead of Unraid (yes, I know Unraid is a form or linux).  All modules download to completion and my appdata filesystem is not full.

Any ideas on why this is occurring?  My Google searches haven't found much.

I got it figured out...   While I thought I had plenty of space... I did not.  I doubled my docker image and it installed.   Pilot error.

Have an existing calibre library on my PC (not my Unraid server)

is there any way to transfer (copy) from the PC to the unraid docker?

set it up same as sapceinvader but if try to import just says /library already exists or is not empty

Do I have to copy each book file one by one and start over?

  • 1 month later...

This is weird... my library has disappeared within calibre. My books are, of course, all still there on disk and my configuration points to the right place, but calibre is showing me a completely empty library.

I've certainly done a couple of routine updates of the docker image and, in fact, also upgrade unraid from 7.0.0 to 7.0.1. I'm not sure how to recover from this as I'm not quite clear on what got lost right now. I'd very much like to avoid simply reimporting a few hundred books and losing all my read status information. I do have external backups I can go to, but I need to understand what's missing so I can find the backups that contain the missing info.

I can, from the calibre console (i.e., launch the console from the unraid web page) see that the library is right where it's supposed to be.

Any ideas on what calibre is looking for and not finding to make it show me an empty library?

Well, it looks like my metadata.db was corrupted but in such a way that I wasn't seeing any errors, just an empty library. The good news, I've just successfully confirmed that my CrashPlanPro subscription is actually handy 🙂 I pulled in a backup from a few weeks ago and my library is back. I picked the backup somewhat at random, after a recent book purchase, but probably before some other imports, so I'll have to pull a more recent one if I can find a good one.

It seems to be causing issues for my system and even setting up a fresh instance of Calibre didn't help. Any ideas on how to fix this or stop the log spam?

Cant connect my Kindle (Jailbroken with koreader) to my calibre docker container, Im pulling my hair out trying to figure this out but cant find any solutions, please help!

I have calibre installed on my server. When i try to connect to it by pressing 'start wireless device connection' my kindle gives me an error saying it cant find a calibre instance on my home network.

If I try to put in a manual IP on my kindle and match it to the default one on my calibre server it says connected on my kindle but doesnt register the connection on calibre and they cant send anything or interact with eachother in any way. I have also tried a content server but still with no luck.

I don't have a firewall on my server

It is on a custom proxy network but even if I switch it back to bridge network type for the container it still doesnt work.

ill try anything at this point...

  • 2 months later...

I did a search for a plugin and could not find an answer. Is there a way to add third-party plugins to the container? I was unable to find a means to do so.

Thank you for your feedback

Edit: I figured out I was able to map an external folder and install the plugin via the preferences> advanced menu

I have Calibre working on my Unraid system. But I have on issue. When I attempt to use "Sharing on the Net" to work in connection with Moon+ Reader, it advertises an IP address of 172.21.0.8 and port 8086. But that is not working. I've read docker containers are separate from the host, so I am not sure this can even work? I know my Windows PC works with the Sharing on the Net feature.

Any ideas on a solution or work-around?

I had to set my up my eReader using my router public IP address and I used my container port, which is 8081. I verified with "whats my ip" then plugged into my calibre settings on my eReader: (example) IP: 173.85.197.69 Port 8081

My docker container ip isn't that much different from yours. I think it's just a standard that starts with 172.xx.x.xx

My docker actually shows a different IP address. But in order to get to your unraid server, at least for me, I had to use the public IP address, with Calibre's Port, so my eReader knew where to go to enter the port to get to the program. I can connect my eReader onto any wireless, anywhere, and download books. I've done it using the wireless on a flight to Dallas aboard the jet to download using this setup. My sharing over the net has the port 8081. I guess you would be using Port 8086,

I do not use a VPN or have an external presence at this time. But I did try it and connection was refused.

If your Calibre container "web server" port is 8086 and you map port, say, 8088 to container port 8086, "Sharing on the Net", in Calibre GUI, has to be with container port 8086; but in your MoonReader app, you have to specify "your unraid server local IP:8088/opds". So if your Unraid server local IP is 192.168.2.99, put 192.168.99:8088/opds in MoonReader app. This setting will work, if your device is connected to your local network. If you are outside and VPN to your local network, it still works.

If you are outside and you don't VPN to your local network, you have to have a public domain name that points to your home public IP. There are extra steps to set it up.

Thank you, it worked! Made the changes you mentioned, pointed to my Unraid server IP in the MooReader app and bingo!

Calibre on my Unraid is working great with one observed small issue. When I right-click on a book, any book, and select "Open Book Folder" nothing happens.

Since I have the docker being able to find the books when started, and can edit them, I would think it would not be a path variable issue.

Is there some configuration I need to do? I have my Calibre Library set to /mnt/user/Media/Books. Everything else seems to work perfectly.

One other quick question / observation.

I noticed of my five dockers, only Calibre creates a folder on my cache drive just starting up. I ran the Mover option in Unraid thinking there was some data, but the folder was still there as well as a type of database file after the move was complete. I assume that is normal, but observed none of my other dockers have that behaviour.

Ok, after last update "Error: This application requires a secure connection (HTTPS). Please check the URL."

Tryed to change webui to 8181 but Unraid tells it is in use? (does not accept it and start calibre with that?)

So? How to fix?? AND WHY? If I have local calibre in my home network WHY are we forced to use HTTPS?
