I'm having a non-permissions related issue.

 

When I try to mount a remote SMB share, nothing happens. I put in the path, credentials, and share name. Save it. Click mount. Nothing happens. Check the log and it's empty. Any suggestions on how I might go about troubleshooting something like this?

 

The log can't be empty.  Be sure you are looking at the UD log and not the device log.  It's the icon in the upper right corner.

    I've made a change to try to prevent this problem.  I can't reproduce the issue.  If this happens to you , please post your diagnostics and the UD log.

    I released a new version today.  Let me know if it makes any difference in mounting a share Public.  I can't create the problem.  Is this a recurring problem or has it only happened once?

    Only happened once.  Once I toggled security on and off after setting up the share, it has remained accessible without the authentication prompt.

    Looks to be a samba share configuration that was cleared once you did the toggle.  I see several times in the log that the device could not be shared because no users were defined.

    I've figured it out.  It comes from a SMB configuration that has never been configured (saved).  The lack of a configuration was causing a problem.

    I'm getting repeated errors in my logs for a drive I thought was previously cleanly unmounted.  I plugged the drive back in and mounted the file system and the errors stop.  Once mounted, it is difficult to unmount.  I usually have to click on the unmount button in the WebGUI 5-10 times before it finally unmounts.  Once it finally unmounts, however, it still shows to be mounted in the OS if I check via command line.

    I don't think there is anything for repairing an NTFS filesystem on unRAID. You will have to plug it into a Windows computer and let it checkdisk.

    I'm getting repeated errors in my logs for a drive I thought was previously cleanly unmounted.  I plugged the drive back in and mounted the file system and the errors stop.  Once mounted, it is difficult to unmount.  I usually have to click on the unmount button in the WebGUI 5-10 times before it finally unmounts.  Once it finally unmounts, however, it still shows to be mounted in the OS if I check via command line.

    Would a corrupt NTFS filesystem prevent the disk from unmounting even though unassigned devices is reporting the drive to be unmounted?  I could plug it into windows to check the NTFS file system, but I really don't need to use this drive going forward.  I just plugged it back in to see if the repeated errors would stop.  Thanks for the prompt response!

    I don't think there is anything for repairing an NTFS filesystem on unRAID. You will have to plug it into a Windows computer and let it checkdisk.

     

    Would a corrupt NTFS filesystem prevent the disk from unmounting even though unassigned devices is reporting the drive to be unmounted?  I could plug it into windows to check the NTFS file system, but I really don't need to use this drive going forward.  I just plugged it back in to see if the repeated errors would stop.  Thanks for the prompt response!

     

    I plugged the drive back into a windows machine and ran a checkdisk.  It did not detect any errors so I reformatted the drive just to be sure.  Stuck it back into Unraid, and it mounts and unmounts cleanly now. But....... the server still thinks the drive is mounted (old mount point) and I am getting repeated errors I can't stop now.  Any other suggestions?

    I'm getting repeated errors in my logs for a drive I thought was previously cleanly unmounted.  I plugged the drive back in and mounted the file system and the errors stop.  Once mounted, it is difficult to unmount.  I usually have to click on the unmount button in the WebGUI 5-10 times before it finally unmounts.  Once it finally unmounts, however, it still shows to be mounted in the OS if I check via command line.

    UD can check the NTFS file system.  Click on the + next to the mount point when the disk is not mounted and you can click on the graphic to check the file system.  You are given an opportunity to do a repair if needed.  Hover your mouse over the active items and you'll see a tool tip describing what the action will be if the active item is clicked.

    Thanks, good to know since I only use NTFS disks with Unassigned Devices.

    You have to add the disk directly into your XML.

     

    1) Open an SSH/Telnet session to your server and run

     

    find /dev/disk/by-id  ! \( -iname "*-part*" -o -iname "wwn-*" \)

     

    You must save the entry for your SSD, e.g. /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Samsung_SSD_840_EVO_250GB_XXXXXXXXXX.

     

    2) Edit your VM XML file, changing it accordingly:

      <driver name="qemu" type="raw"/>

    Which caused the machine to boot to my windows installer, and the unraid driver detected the SSD I passed through with no problem and I'm now installing Windows. The problem is I don't know what to learn from this? Why did it create the alias name  and backingStore lines?, and how am I supposed to determine the address type in the future so I can understand why it worked?
