  1. Thank you.....being new to all of this means not really understanding all of the correct terminology. I appreciate it......heading off to watch those videos a lot more hahaha
  2. Okay, so when you say "outside of your network" you are refering to the local network that Unraid is on? So for instance to use phone apps and have them backup to Unraid (like you mentioned), requires reverse proxy? That is a feature I am really needing so I suppose I will need to set up the reverse proxy.....dang, that sucks lol From your first post, when you said "outside of your network", I thought you were referring to the devices connected to my Nextcloud account (such as a phone logged in with the phone app) as part of the network....as opposed to those outside of my Nextcloud account that I'm sharing back and forth with. Thamk you for clarifying. This is a lot to take in!
  3. The the reverse proxy is basically there to support the feature of being able to share files with those who do not have login access to my Nextcloud? So I can securely setup Nextcloud without reverse proxy and create additional users for various devices that will be using the nextcloud and we can all share within eachother and to the Unraid server.....even without reverse proxy? Then once its all set up if I decide to have outside access I can setup the reverse proxy stuff (which it may be easier to setup once I already have Nextcloud setup and understand how to use it). Its a bit overwhelming to try to wrap my head around Nextcloud and reverse proxy both, all at once.....for someone who doesnt know anything about this stuff lol.
  4. First let me say that I am a extreme newbie to all of this computer/server/networking stuff. I've been watching the SI video series on Nextcloud and would like to setup Nextcloud. Is it necessary to do all of the reverse proxy stuff that adds so much complexity? Are there certain circumstances in which all of that is necessary or is it just a general necessary precaution? It feels a bit over my head so that even if I got it all working from the video, if anything even got somewhat messed up I'd never figure out what is wrong or how to fix it.....so I'm a bit reluctant to set it up with all of the reverse proxy and add all of that complexity to my Unraid server. Trying to gauge how necessary it is. Thank You for any advice you can give!
  5. Will this app be able to tell me how much resources everything is using? For instance if my CPU shows 50% utilization can I see the break down of what apps and tasks are running and how much CPU each is using? Same questions with RAM as well.
  6. Should SAB keep downloading even if I dont have it pulled up?? I logged into Unraid from my laptop, had Radarr and Sab open with files in queue to download and they were downloading but when Chrome in minimized on the laptop Sab pauses its download. Is there a way around this? If I close the Sab gui shouldnt it keep downloading in the background or do I have to stay logged into the gui and keep it fully open in the browser?
  7. Thanks for this info....I dont know much about routers and networking. Since reading your post I've looked closer at what all my router can do and it has router capabilities. It appears that I can set it up to remote into it and also tie it to a VPN for internet access. Would a VPN service like Mullvad be good since it offers Open VPN as well as Wireguard? That would make it compatible with some of the containers/apps that need to go out into the internet such as Sonarr and SAB correct? In terms of VPN access to the network it almost seems like I can just set it up on the router and dont even need a 3rd party service.....would that be correct? It looks like it lets me generate a certificate and then the router has a link to the OpenVPN website where I can go download the client app to the remote computer, put in the certificate info, and it reads like it will connect up. Does that sound correct? I suppose maybe I should start a new thread as my questions to you are getting too far off topic from the thread now that I've discovered all of this isnt relative to the wireguard in Unraid
  8. I'm super new to all of this so please excuse if I dont use proper terminology and my lack of understanding. Currently I have Wireguard setup like the top left image in this picture, where I use the app to create a connection allowing me to remote in to my Unraid server. However, I would like to setup Wireguard in a different way, but have no idea how to go about it and am hoping you guys may can tell me what it will take..... I want to have all of my internet traffic from all devices going through a VPN like the bottom left picture. I also want to be able to remote in but see ALL of my network instead of just the server....like the top right image. My server motherboard (Asus x99 Deluxe II ) has two lan ports, so can I just change the cabling around to get my router behind the server? Currently it goes from cable modem to wifi router (which has lan ports) and the router feeds everything including wired to the server. Can I just go from cable modem to the server then out the other lan to the wifi router? That should effectly put everything behind the server correct? Would that be necessary? Really my server is the most important piece in the network and moving it in front of the router seems like it removes a layer of protection (but maybe not). Also I'm not sure how it would work with issuing IP addresses and such since the router has been doing all that kind of work and the server would be in front of it. Anyway, then I thought I would get a VPN that provides secure internet to ALL of the entire network, not just my server. I just dont understand all this well enough to know if this would work, if its needed to change the cabling around, what kind of issues I may run into, how difficult it will be to setup and manage.....I cant have anything that is flakey and having issues because I go out of town a lot and no one else will understand any of it. Once setup it just needs to fade in the background and work.
  9. Does it easily pass though with a Windows 10 VM? Ultimatly I just want two video cards, one for Unraid and one for W10 passthrough for gaming. I can sell my RX580, I just want to get something that works good with Unraid and doesnt require a lot of trial and error and various hacks to get it working.....but I'm not sure which two cards that would be.
  10. Why is it that in the CA this app is listed as BETA? It looks like its been around for several years now. Is it actually still beta or is that just old? I just want to make sure I'm not going to run into some issues due to it being incomplete/beta. Thanks!
  11. okay, someone just told me that running a second card dedicated to Unraid helped them get a rx580 passed through. I actually wanted a second card anyway because I mostly use Unraid directly and when the VM is on the Unraid goes blank. Does anyone have any suggestions on a video card that will be good too use just for Unraid that has HDMI and a good picture for a big screen ( I pull Unraid up on a 55" HD tv). Something cheap enough that if it doesnt help with the RX580 issue, I wont care lol
  12. I may try that, I was planning on using a second one anyway because I use Unraid directly and when I pass through the VM my Unraid screen goes black. Good to know that having a second card may actually help with the passthrough issue.
  13. I've switched it to Q35. The VM never boots up. I only have one GPU but I log in using my laptop and try to connect using Splashtop. Everything is perfect if I dont pass through GPU, I can open Splashtop and see my w10 VM login screen, it all works....but passing through the rx580 the Splashtop will never see the VM or be able to connect.
  14. I'm struggling to passthrough a RX580 and I've got so much other stuff to do I think I just want to switch to a different video card that will easily work. What are some options of cards that easily pass through? I might keep the rx580 in there to let Unraid use it and have a second one for VM that will be okay for gaming (not crazy hardcore gaming but something thatll work as good as a RX580). I'd be looking for one that is used for under $200. Are there some options that just pass through without a lot of work figuring out how to make it work?
  15. Hello! I'm new to Unraid, servers, vm's, and other IT type stuff so please excuse my lack of understanding about all this....I have no idea what a kernel is but wondering if this will help me. When building my server (first time to build a computer)....I purchased a Radeon rx580 OC Top Edition GPU not realizing AMD GPU's dont pass through easily. I have a VM w10 that works except when I try to pass through the GPU. However, I'm not sure if I can use your custom kernel since I have a Xeon cpu?? Also, not sure if it would help my issue anyway, but someone suggested that it may help. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Stephen
  16. YES, that is what I was refering too......I saw SpaceInvader use it in a video but I couldn't recall the url nor which video. It seems nearly unthinkable that the info is that easily accessible. Then I believe someone in the comments said their ISP had sent them a email about downloading torrents and such, so they knew they had been. It just makes me want to add so much privacy to my internet connection that it looks like I don't even have one! It bothers me that the ISP or anyone else with my IP address can see what goes in and out of my internet connection.
  17. I know this is a terrible question but I'm new to all of this and just trying to figure out how best to setup Unraid. What I'm wondering is if its best to setup multiple shares to categorize the media for instance a share for Movies, share for TV Shows, share for Music....as opposed to one share called Media. Or would I create one share called Media then add folders inside of it to separate the different types?
  18. WOW, thank you for all the information. I'm trying to chew through it. I have mostly NO experience with networks, servers, torrents, vpn's and so one. I built my first server last week and got Unraid installed on it earlier this week and I've just been hammering my way through trying to get it all setup using videos and forum posts. I'm using it for a mix of personal and business. This is all pretty dang challenging for someone like me lol. Anyway, where you talked about Wireguard, yes I got Wireguard setup yesterday. I often work on the road and needed a way to access it from the road incase it goes down since it is going to be the primary server of media to the family TV as well as some business needs.....so I needed to have access away from the home. Since I have Wireguard setup and working are you saying that I can use a app like qBittorrent (I plan on also hooking it up to Radarr/Sonarr/Lidarr). I do not really have a need to have an additional VPN? I can tunnel in with Wireguard and use a app like qBittorrent and what is downloaded will be secure? The only thing visible is the size of the downloads and that they are going through Wireguard? But if I want to fully obscure it or basically make it invisible then I need to add a VPN and in that case, it wont need to use Wireguard at all, they will basically just be two seperate services the VPN specifically for the qBittorrent docker and the Wireguard for remote login....they dont really have to deal with eachother are pass one through the other, etc?
  19. when its all working properly, if I used DuckDNS shouldnt I be able to just pull up the browser on my phone and type in the DuckDNS url and it pull up Unraid? If so, its not working....any ideas? Okay, I see now that if I go to my mobile browser and type in the IP address in the upper right corner of Unraid it pulls up. However, it doesnt even bring me to the login screen, it just opens right up to the Main tab.....is there a way for it to open to the login screen to have a extra layer of protection? Also, how can I set it up to have a custom url instead of typing in the ip address? I'd like to purchase a url for this purpose. Can anyone give me some advice on that?
  20. Before I get to questions let me first say that I am brand new to Unraid and not much of a computer person....I'm just feeling my way through it all and clicking what the how too's say to click.. So please forgive the ignorance lol With qbittorrentvpn, using its connection to Wireguard, will that hide all of the activity from the ISP or anyone else? I saw in one of SpaceInvaders videos where he went to a website and with just your IP address it can tell what all you have been downloading. I like more privacy than that. Anyway, I just setup Wireguard for remote login's so can I also use it for this as well so that my downloads are just public knowledge? Or will is require OpenVPN for that? Also, is there a difference in speed between qbittorrentvpn, DelugeVPN, and rtorrent? Thanks! Stephen
  21. @ljm42 Please excuse my severe ignorance about this....I've just started a unraid trial and dont know anything about this stuff but I'm trying to get it setup. I THINK I have everything configured correctly. In unraid it shows a handshake with 8MB data transfer (no idea what data since I've not logged into the VPN yet) and I can ping the tunnel address. I have it setup in the windguard app by scanning QR and its toggled on. IGNORANT QUESTION.....on my phone, what do I type in the browser?? Should I just be able to type in http://Tower like I can locally on my laptop?
  22. I'm brand new to unraid and all of 'this' so please excuse my ignorance about this stuff..... So I am fixing to install Delugevpn....does it only work with PIA? It seems like people have a lot of issues where end points stop working, etc. Is there a different way to set it up with a different vpn that is more stable?
  23. Can someone please help me understand the differences between this version of Krusader vs the other version? I'm brand new to unraid, I went to install Krusader and there are two listed. It doesnt explain the differences. Does one have different features than the other?
  24. I'm only in the phase of building all the hardware so cant dig through all the software yet, but trying to prepare. Anyway....my question.....I thought the rgb control was part of the bios. When I look through the Asus x99 Deluxe ii manual in the bios section, it shows settings for the Aura control. Am I confused about that? Once I saw that in the manual appearing to be part of the bios, I thought I was going to be good with running the lights in Unraid. All of the bios settings will work correctly wont they? Thank You for any info you have!
  25. I'm currently building a media server with my son and we have Asus Arus rgb lighting and I was wondering if it was going to work in Unraid. I've not finished the build yet but does your plugin seem to be working good? Alternatively would it be possible to setup a windows vm that runs all the time and control the lights from there? Would that just be too big of a resource hog?
