  1. Wow, the upgrade process for Unraid sure is simple. Upgraded on Saturday and everything is smooth and as stable as a vintage small block Chevy V8!!!! Excellent work guys. Quite impressed with Unraid.
  2. Thanks very much for the post and tip. Much appreciated....
  3. Today it's a very windy day in Nova Scotia and we are getting power flucuations. Lights blinking, etc. My Unraid server has been shutting down each time I get a power flucuation however my Windows and Zorin computers have been fine. However in the past I had the same issue with them and had to lower my sensitivity settings for my APC UPSes. Each computer has their own UPS. Is there a way to lower the UPS settings in Unraid? Thanks very much...
  4. It appears it may have been a certificate issue with the Adobe server as I had well over a dozens instances of Adobe want me to update a certificate for my Adobe subscription for Lightoom and Photoshop during the same time period. Make sense?
  5. Feb 2 16:15:40 KENSPLACE nginx: 2022/02/02 16:15:40 [error] 9486#9486: *66354 limiting requests, excess: 20.630 by zone "authlimit", client: 10.2.250.183, server: , request: "PROPFIND /login HTTP/1.1", host: "kensplace" Searching the forum for the message I got above and found this thread. I have well over 30 lines of the same message in my log. It the first time I've seen this. The client ip is for my Windows 10 PC. Any ideas? Thanks kindly...
  6. Are you suggesting Amazon is engaged in counterfeiting the products they stock and sell? I'm using an Sandisk Cruzer Fit 16gb USB 2.0 thumbdrive because it was recommended on a thread on this forum. I've not been having any issues so far. How can I detect if my thumbdrive is a counterfeit unit? How did the original poster identify the suspect Sandisk units as counterfeit? Are these counterfeit units also sold at Best Buy, Walmart, COSTCO, Staples, etc? Since COVID the volume of sales at Amazon has increased dramatically and it has resulted in a lot of anti-Amazon comments.
  7. Since I removed my Unraid box from the KVM switch and removed the Intel onboard graphics from my vms, using vnc instead, everything seems quite stable. No crashes or freezing. Damn Intel graphics and a flakey TrendNet kvm switch seemed to be the culprit. Thanks to those that commented. Cheers from Halifax, Nova Scotia....
  8. My vms seem to be stable when I switched my graphics from passthrough to vnc. I do have a GTX 1060 with 6gb of ram sitting on a shelf, but I was hoping to use the free PCIe slot for a SATA controller card.
  9. Thanks young fella for the kind offer, but I live on the other side of the ocean in Nova Scotia which is on the Atlantic coast of Canada north of the fine American state of Maine. I'm not weak, just a little long in the tooth. A few more aches and pains then I used to have. Most of my youth and adult life I played ice hockey and tennis. Stopped playing hockey about 15 years ago when I turned 52. Used to play hockey all winter, spring & fall. And most of the summer as majority of rinks have their ice in all year. My tennis partner lost a battle to cancer around the same time.
  10. It's a tad heavy for an old scudder like me, I'm closing in on 70 years of age. And empty it weighs in at 36 pounds!!!!
  11. I connected an usb mouse & keyboard directly to my Unraid server. And Unraid seems to be a lot more happy as the syslog is a lot less chattier. The server stayed up for 4 days. However I decided today to launch one of my vms - Windows 11, which I am passing thru the Intel onboard video to the vm. I read that the i915 onboard video plays havoc with the new linux 5.x kernel. So not sure if this is my problem or not. About 10 minutes after launching the vm, graphics on the monitor went strange, displaying about of streaks on the screen. Unraid did not respond to a ping from a Windows client nor could I connect via the web interface. So I did a hard reset. Please see attached syslog syslog-10.2.250.180 (15).log kensplace-diagnostics-20211229-1754.zip
  12. Thanks kindly JonathanM for your quick reply. Much appreciated.
  13. I understand port multipliers are not to be used in Unraid. But it is my understanding (right or wrong) that is is because of fear of corrupting the array or parity disks. However can it be used in Unraid for Unassigned Devices only? I have a MediaSonic ProBox, 4 bay enclosure with it's own e-sata card sitting idle on a shelf. Could this be attached via the Mediasonic e-sata card to my Unraid server for the Unassigned Devices? I've pulled some 2TB and 4TB disks from an older Linux computer I am no longer using. I would like to mount the disks as Unassigned Devices and see if there is any data I've over looked on them. Thanks very much and all the best in the New Year....
  14. Thanks kindly. Really appreciate the quick response...
  15. I've gotten into the habbit of checking my syslog every morning even if my Unraid server did not abend or is hung. This morning I noticed these two entries in my syslog. Dec 26 04:40:01 KENSPLACE apcupsd[9234]: apcupsd exiting, signal 15 Dec 26 04:40:01 KENSPLACE apcupsd[9234]: apcupsd shutdown succeeded Dec 26 04:40:04 KENSPLACE apcupsd[6953]: apcupsd 3.14.14 (31 May 2016) slackware startup succeeded Dec 26 04:40:04 KENSPLACE apcupsd[6953]: NIS server startup succeeded I suspect I may need to lower my sensitivity settings as I have four computers in my computer room. All have their own APC upses. Besides the Unraid server, I have a Linux (Zorin-Os 16) and two Windows 10 Home 64 bit computers. In the APC software I had to lower the sensitivity from high to medium as I was getting warnings of a possible brown out, but the Windows computers remained stable. Is my assumption of the syslog correct and I need to lower my sensitivity settings? If so how do I do this in Unraid? I checked my ups settings in Unraid and see no way to do this? I did refer to the manual but it is not specific to Unraid and more a generic to Linux. And I understand editing the ups conf files will not be saved after each Unraid reboot. Cheers & Seasons Greetings to ALL
  16. I wonder if there is a KVM which Unraid users use that does not cause this issue. Thanks kindly Squid for your suggestion. I will give it a try.
  17. Thanks kindly for the reply. By doing a check disk you mean this option below? I certainly can remove the Unraid server from my usb KVM switch but I do not have enough desk space to place another keyboard and monitor. I have 4 computers on my desk. The Unraid server, Ubuntu Samba server and a Windows 10 running Storage Pools connected to the KVM and a monitor, mouse & keyboard. I have my photo editing/3D modeling computer Ryzen 7 computer with two dedicated monitors, keyboard and mouse. Not on the KVM. I would have to run the Unraid without a monitor, keyboard or mouse. And when I start exploring VMs that maybe an issue as I dislike VNC and Nomachine solutions. But I may try this once the parity check stops running from last nights/morning crash (Dec 25 just after the midnight of Dec 24). Cheers & many thanks
  18. Presently having stability issues with my Unraid install. I am a newbie when it comes to Unraid. However I worked 30+ years as a sytem admin (now retired) first with Novell Netware 3 - Netware 6, Citrix Winframe, Windows Servers, Novell SUSE servers. All were file & print servers. At home I've been using Samba services & mdadm raid on a Zorin-Os (Ubuntu based) computer shared with Windows computers for close to 15 years. I was attracted to Unraid by the wonderful SpaceInvaderOne fantastic videos on youtube and thought it would be a good solution to the growing web of USB external drives I use to backup my raw DSLR photo files and processed PSDs and JPGs. Also for my 3D rendered illustrations and growing collection of 3D models and assets. My goal is to replace my USB drives backup solution with a NAS solution. Getting rid of the spider web of USB cables and electrical connections. I used the trail version of Unraid for over two weeks and was quite impressed with it's stability and ease of use. However since purchasing Unraid and installing it on the same hardware I was running the demo (I7-4770S, Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H, 32 gigs of DDR3, using onboard intel graphics). Previously I used this setup for 3D rendering on Windows 7 Home 64 bit. The only exception was I used a Nvidia GTX 1060 card. I removed the card when I ran the demo of Unraid and have not put it back into the computer. The computer was rock stable when doing 3D renders and sometimes running for a couple of days at high utilization. I use e-onsoftware's Vue which is a hybrid renderer using both gpu and cpu. I also use DAZ3D's Iray renderer. Since purchasing Unraid, it has been very unstable. Crashing sometimes overnight for no reason that I can discern. Not sure if it maybe my KVM (keyboard, monitor, mouse USB switch) or the macinabox docker which I installed. I have a APC UPS connected to my Unraid server. I did run a memtest for over 30 hours and no errors were reported. Refer to attached screen shot. Also enabled the syslog server option and the syslog saved to one of my Unraid shares. Presently I am very reluctant to backup my photo files and 3D assets to a very unstable Unraid environment. I would like to resolve this issue as I find Unraid's instability very concerning. Never have I encountered a situation like this with the various operating systems I've supported both at work and at home. I eagerly await a response on this matter. Thanks kindly and Merry Christmas to All of You... syslog-10.2.250.180 (10).log kensplace-diagnostics-20211224-1310.zip
  19. I would love to see ufw added to Unraid. I use ufw on my Zorin Samba server (Ubuntu 20.04 based). That way I can close samba ports 137, 138,139 & 445 and only open them up for clients on my network who require to have access to the file shares. And Yes I also use username / password for authentication. Do not allow guests access to shares even for read only.
  20. I believe that is a very fair question. Perplexed why no one has answered.
  21. @JorgeB - Thanks very much, that really clears it up. Really appreciate the reply. So that means external esata multi bay enclosures like Mediasonic ProBoxes must be attached via Unraid SAS controller in IT mode? I've priced such devices on eBay and in Canada they are quite expensive. Years ago when Novell Netware was very popular for file & print services, we used Dell servers which had the Perc SCSI raid controllers. I believe they were PCI or perhaps eisa (I'm in my late 60's and at the time I would have been in my late 30s). They were awesome performers for our raid 5 setups.
  22. Sorry, but I am asking for my own clarification. The Amazon link, point 5 says : "5. Support command-based and FIS-based port multiplier" I thought it was recommended to avoid sata cards that supported port multiplier? And if these cards are not recommended would that mean we can not use any sort of multi-bay hard drive enclosures via esata like the Mediasonic Probox 4 bay esata devices which would be a very big downer for me. Cheers & many thanks
  23. Mediasonic has an esata card that is compatible with their Mediasonic Probox. http://forum.mediasonic.ca/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1107 Mediasonic eSata III PCIe card HP1-SS3 Specs: ASMEDIA-asm1061 chipset 2 x eSATA Port - Transfer rate up to 6.0 Gbps Support Port Multiplier and FIS-Based switch Support up to 8 hard drive PCI Express Base Secification Rev 2.0 PCI Express Card Electromechanical Rev 2.0 Serial ATA AHCI Spec. I ask as I have the same Mediasonic ProBox but mine supports USB 3.0 and esata. Does not support USB 3.1. I have the Mediasonic esata card and used it in Windows 10 drivepool and Zorin-Os (Ubuntu based) samba shares and it was been very stable via both USB & e-sata. I even had a mdadm raid 0 running on it. Never had an issue. I did try it on my Unraid server (unassigned disks only) and I started to experience freezing and crashes when using esata. Not sure if this is due to the I915 issue or the card. Just curious if you found a solution. Or tried the Mediasonic esata card. Cheers
  24. Just checked the specs for my I3-10100 and it does not support ECC memory. https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca/en/products/sku/199283/intel-core-i310100-processor-6m-cache-up-to-4-30-ghz/specifications.html
