  1. Hi there Totally understand your request and why you would want a fully documented backup solution. There are plenty of different tools out there to utilize for backups. There have been a number of different guides written from different individuals on how to do this. We even wrote a blog post recently detailing one (https://unraid.net/blog/unraid-server-to-server-backups-with-rsync-and-wireguard). The reality is that backup is a business in and of itself. There are plethora of different providers out there that create various software solutions that work with various platforms such as Unraid. If we ever do create a first-party solution for backups for unraid we will obviously document it but until then we do rely on the community and other backup software solution providers to provide guidance. That being said, we may end up creating a guide under our wiki in the future, but no ETA on when that will happen just yet.
  2. Does your server have a root password set? Is your server directly exposed to the internet (is your server in the DMZ or do you have port 80/443 forwarded to your server's IP)? If the answer to question 1 is yes and the answer to question 2 is no, then I doubt someone has hacked your server. Without the root password or network access to the server, there is just no way someone can "sniff a NIC" (whatever that means) and gain access to your system. I also don't see any events in your logs that point to a hacker. Atypically we would see a lot of SSH connection attempts which all get flagged and I don't see any in your logs. That being said, if you don't use usernames/passwords for share security (meaning anyone on your network can browse the files on the server), then ANOTHER machine on your network could have been compromised and used to attack the Unraid box. What I would suggest is to slowly re-enable docker containers one by one. Maybe one per day if you can afford to wait that long. Start with the server running with no containers and see if permissions change again randomly. If not, move on to the next container and start that one. Perhaps one of those containers is doing something to the permissions causing the issue. In addition, I would also suggest booting into safe mode so you can eliminate any plugins from the equation.
  3. Keep in mind you only need to do port forwarding for remote access. Local network access secured by ssl does not require port forwarding.
  4. Hello Unraid Community! Today we're excited to give you a sneak peak at something we've been working on for quite some time. A new feature we like to call My Servers. "My Servers" is designed to extend the value of your investment in Unraid by enabling you to more easily connect, share, monitor, and access your systems. For the initial beta launch, we are focusing on the following key features: Secure Remote Access Whether you need to add a share, container, or virtual machine, do it all from the webGui from anywhere and at any time using using HTTPS. Best of all, all SSL certificates are verified by Let's Encrypt, so no browser security warnings. Online Flash Backup When your Unraid configuration changes, the new settings on the flash drive will automatically be backed up to Unraid.net, enabling easy recovery in the event of a device failure. Never self-manage/host your flash backups again! Real-time Monitoring Get quick real-time info on the status of your servers such as storage, container, and VM usage. And not just for one server, but all the servers in your Unraid fleet! License Management Download any registration key linked to your account. Upgrade keys to higher editions. In addition, Trial keys are now downloaded automatically. Simply sign-in! Installing For the full details on how to install and configure, check out the wiki.
  5. In addition to the public availability of the My Servers plugin, we also wanted to let everyone know about our new Unraid Community Discord Server! As great as the forums are for providing support and long-hand conversations, sometimes you just want to chat with someone in real-time. Discord gives us that ability and is just another great way to communicate. If you're not familiar with Discord, you can create an account and download their apps at discord.gg. Once done, you can join our discord server using this link: https://discord.unraid.net Please note that we do require you to link your Unraid.net forum account in order to join our discord server. Your username will be automatically set to match your display name here. This is done in order to prevent impersonation of other community members. No exceptions will be made to this policy. We intend to do more and more with Discord over time, as it is a powerful platform with lots of intriguing possibilities for our community. Join today and be a part of the conversation!! Also we want to give a special thanks to the guys who are running the Unofficial Discord Server @Roxedusand @GilbN (and if I'm missing anyone else, please forgive me). They were fantastic in helping us and the community and will be moderators in our server as well.
  6. Just an FYI guys, we are aware of this issue and plan to have a fix in for 6.9.1.

Sounds like you might be a good candidate to be a guest on the show!

    Great feedback! Keep it coming!
  9. Hi there, We do not have explicit UI support for specifying which interface should be "primary". However, setting up the bond involves loading the bonding kernel module. If running latest 6.9 release, you can specify which interface to set as primary using this method: Create a file on the flash: config/modprobe.d/bonding.conf which contains the single line: options bonding primary=eth0 (You might need to create the 'modprobe.d' directory.) Then reboot. Of course, instead of eth0, specify eth1 or eth2, etc. depending on which interface you want to be primary. After reboot you can check if it worked by typing this command: cat /proc/net/bonding/bond0 You should see the selected interface show up as "Primary Slave". Let us know if you try this and have any issues (or successes)!
  10. Other than the event in your logs, do you notice anything causing issues? If not, I'm not sure what you're asking us to "fix" here other than to make those log messages go away which seems like a kernel problem (probably driver related).
  11. I know it is you guys :-). we've had a hell of a time trying to recreate this issue. And then we thought we had it figured out with that SSD partitioning issue, but apparently that's not the silver bullet for everyone. I'm hoping to find some time over the holidays to really beat again at the server in the lab and see if I can reproduce. That is the key at this point. We have to be able to reproduce this issue to have any chance of solving it. Alternatively, if anybody has a system that does not have production data on it that is exhibiting this issue, I may be interested in requesting remote access to that box directly. I just don't want to do this to anyone's system that has data on it that they are concerned about. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  12. Am I right in saying that the minimum price point for their servers seems to be ~25 euros per month? Or is there a lower price point I'm not aware of? And for that 25, you get an athlon server with 2x2TB of local storage? Assuming that is in a RAID1, that's 2TB of protected cloud storage for 25 euros per month? Just looking to verify if there are any other hidden costs there. And do they provide an SLA? What about if you need to expand? Will they just add more storage to the server or do you have to step up to a bigger server at which point you're also going to have to do a cloud-based data migration? Just curious how this works from them. Seems like a really cheap hosting offer! Oh, and is there any fee for bandwidth usage in addition to the monthly?
  13. Man I think some folks out there got really burned by a few bad companies. Of course things that are core to the OS itself will not be a part of a subscription. That includes ZFS. It will be a core function of Unraid OS. However, anything that requires services to be provided by us to support wouldn't be something that's just part of the OS. Anything where we have to provide a hosted infrastructure has an ongoing cost and those offerings will be considered services that come with a subscription. Technical support could be one thing, other cloud-based services could be another (think cloud-based backups). I certainly don't imagine anyone has found a cloud storage solution that is free, unlimited, and uncompressed. @johnwhicker, I don't know what that Domotico company did to you (never even heard of them before), but writing off all subscription offerings because of one bad experience would be like never buying a car again because one broke down on you. I'm sure you have subscription services in your life still. Got Netflix? Xbox Live? What about the Internet you're using to chat on these forums? Bottom line is that subscription services are not the problem. Products with a lack of value or companies that screw over their customers for fast $$$ are the problem. I would hope that after 15 years of providing Unraid OS without asking for a single dime in upgrade costs to maintain that OS would earn us a little more credit for being customer-friendly. I'm confused by this comment. We already got your money ;-). You bought a license key. If we have a subscription offering that we create alongside our traditional products/pricing, you don't have to buy it. That's all I was saying. I feel like you're just looking for us to have this malicious intent. Does my profile pic look similar to the Domotico logo or something? Sheesh man, you're really coming on strong! What if we have two subscription options: one that includes an online registration key and the other that is just the online services benefits without the key (so you can add it to an existing permanent registration key)? The point is that before you say "BS" and call us out, give us the benefit of the doubt that maybe we have some ideas that you haven't thought of yet that would both be fair and logical.
  14. Very true statements in here. The reality is that subscriptions by themselves aren't the problem. There are plenty of things I bet even the harshest critics of subscriptions pay for every month. What about your ISP? What about XBOX Live or Netflix? Subscriptions aren't by themselves the problem. Sub-par offerings bundled into a subscription are the problem. We don't intend to do that. We also don't intend to force anyone to pay for a subscription. Anything we charge for will be worth its weight and justifiable. If its not, there's a simple solution to that: just don't sign up In addition, we also need to note that some users can't afford to drop $59-129 all up front for Unraid. Instead, they'd prefer a lower monthly price point to get them in the door for far less. Any idea how many fewer Plex users there would be if they only offered their lifetime pass option and no monthly? I would wager quite a few less.
  15. This is not an active development project for us at this time. Please create a feature request if you can't find one. Thank you!
  16. OMG! THESE LOOK AMAZING! I can't wait to try them out. Seriously nice work @GilbN!
  17. Wow that is odd. The next thing I'm going to want to check is the permissions on the files inside the folders that are showing up empty. But before we go down that path, how did the data end up on the drives to begin with? Were the files just copied over the network to the share? From what machine and using what protocol (SMB, AFP, etc.)?
  18. Hi there and thanks for sharing this with us. So to recap the issue to confirm I'm understanding this correctly, when you add a user share to Unraid and navigate to your server using Finder on Mac, the new share shows up correctly, but if you add new folders inside that share, you're stating that those don't show up within Finder? What happens if you reboot your Mac? Any change? A short video demonstrating exactly what's happening would be ideal (you can use Loom to create it pretty easily and share it here).
  19. is there a way to verify on your micro tick router that traffic between the VM and the host is not actually traversing the physical network? A 10 gig interface isn't even required to do what you're trying to do. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  20. Hi again Matt, No worries on the delayed reply! This definitely explains a bit more for me. I've tried recreating this issue in our lab setup, but I don't have the same ASUS NIC as you. So to confirm, a direct transfer from Mac to server is attaining pretty high speed, but when the VM is the source instead of the Mac, you see the speeds drop. Is that correct? Beyond iperf, have you tested just copying files over? I'm assuming you're copying them to a share located on SSD(s).
  21. Hi there Matt, Ok, so you have a 10gbps adapter for your mac and which adapter is this might I ask? Also what adapter is on the server and what adapter is the VM using? All the best, Jon
  22. Any insights / information you can provide would be much appreciated. We really need to narrow down reproducable steps. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  23. Yes and no. We have determined some of the excess writes on SSDs that some users were seeing may have been due to the boundary size we set which we have resolved. That will be in an upcoming update, but will require a process to convert which we are still sorting out. Separately we are testing smb performance in a 10gbps environment to see how we hold up in that setting. That testing is still underway and should be completed soon. However the CPU usage issue reported here hasn't been able to be reproduced just yet, so we are still trying. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
