  1. Joe L. et al, I'm having a strange issue. I've been using Unmenu for quite a while but hadn't been using the packages until now. The problem I'm having is, I can install applications and I ensure I have the "Re-install on Re-boot" option chosen, but when I reboot *ALL* packages are not installed I've updated to the latest version. Not sure what's going on. I've read about 15 pages of this thread to no avail. Not sure if this is a common issue. Any ideas?
  2. I'm sure once a moderator (do we even have any?) or Tom logs in, the posts will be removed.
  3. Do you have a spare PSU you can try, maybe the one in there is faulty? What temps do you have (CPU, Board, etc.)? Do you have any spare RAM?, maybe check 1 stick at a time? Those are the three most likely things to be wrong. Good luck.
  4. Not the right thread for this, but the board i went with 1 year ago was this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182205&Tpk=MBD-X7SLA-H-O 1 x4 slot and 1 x8 slot. with 4 sata ports onboard. You could get 20 drives. has onboard video, an atom chip, etc. It has been very solid for me.
  5. May want to also post this in the 4.5 support forums which may get more views. Good luck, I personally don't know.
  6. I refuse to buy a product that has a MIB.
  7. Hi Tom, any chance we can get a 4.5 section in the forum? perhaps even a 5.0 Alpha section as well
  8. Merry Christmas from Toronto, Ontario
  9. No, it doesn't work at all. I was lying. See you, Daniel, have been paying attention. Kewjoe however posted to page 5 of this thread with the question "Anyone try this card in unRAID yet?" because he is lazy. Or, I read the whole thread, have been following it for a month and no one has posted in a few weeks and wondered if there was any updates. But thanks for being a dick. Yeah, your post was worded badly. I mean it seemed a bit far fetched that you could think that a thread about a card, in the unRaid forums, could have reached as many posts as it did without it possibly occurring to someone to try the card with unRaid. Still, that's how it came across. No excuses for being anyone responding like a ****, and possibly motivating someone to go out and spend $100+ on something that won't work, though. You know what, I just re-read what I wrote and you're quite right I blame a lack of sleep in the last 72 hours! My brain was thinking "Anyone get this working yet" and my fingers typed "Anyone try this yet". Whoops
  10. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182205 This is my next purchase! There is at least 1 guy on this forum (dlmh) with the board, search for it. He has had great results with it (~40 watt with drives spun down) I'm adding 2 of these cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132018 Total I'll have 12 ports. Which for me is totally fine. If the Supermicro MV8 PCI-E card was known to work in unRAID, I'd get 1 or 2 of those instead. But At the end, I don't mind staying at 12 drives. I'm at 6 now.

  12. Pretty good deal on a 2TB 7200rpm Hitachi Drive. $198.99 CDN. There are about 40 units left at that price. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=45242&promoid=1059
  13. That would be easy to check. Simply spin up all your drives before launching a movie and see if that continues to happen. If that's the case, you could save your money and hold onto this server a while longer.
  14. I can't remember which power user recommended this, but another good use for the cache drive is a "hot spare", if the drive you are using as cache matches all/most of your other drives (if you have a bunch of 1TB data drive, you should use a 1TB as cache), if one of those drives prematurely fails, you can quickly switch the cache over to recover your data from the parity. I personally don't have the extra cash right now to buy a 1TB cache/hot spare, but it's a great idea.
  15. On top of Kaygee's good response. Are you sure your spare PSU works? Do you have another system you can test it with?
  16. I've never used Newsleecher or anything similar, but there are most likely Linux equivalents. I'd search the forum, perhaps you won't need 2 machines on all the time. the unRAID server can download the news pieces and when you need to watch them, you bring your HTPC out of sleep mode.
  17. argh, newegg.ca has it for $240 CDN (~$225 USD). Ah well. Good shopping my American friends!
  18. Tom / Limetech, I hope you realize the complainers are few in numbers (and seem to only contain 3 letters in their name). There are many more people very happy with your product and are patient for if and when you provide us with upgrades/updates. Thanks!
  19. I'm running a WD 200gig IDE drive as my cache and i get 40+ MB/s speeds. This is from a Windows 7 box (all network tweaks, disabling IPv6, and others found on the wiki) over a Dlink DIR-655 Router with Cat6 cables.
  20. To me, the wording is very clear. "Many regular posters eager to help out, including several long-time users of unRAID OS" as a paying customer, that set my expectations. Also noted is, you can contact Lime Technology directly with any technical support issues or questions. It is very clear to me how support is structured. The top 10 users, I gather stay and help because they'd rather Tom develop unRAID 5.0, rather than spend time answering/fixing issues with 4.4/4.5 which will be obsolete soon. But that is purely my assumption and I don't speak for them. If this bothers you so much, if you feel like you bought the product under the understanding that Tom/Limetech would be monitoring these forums on a daily basis, I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps it best to ask Tom for a refund.
  21. I agree 100% with BubbaQ and others along the same line. Tom/Limetech has been off the forums for so long, yet is still responding to emails in a reasonably time frame. We should stop treating these forums like some official 24/7 support forum and realize they are here for our added benefit. Tom could easily just close the forum down and just support his product via email. Many products and companies have forums that don't have employees responding at all or in any constant basis. Like someone said earlier in the thread, when you paid for this product, you paid for how the product performed that day, not how it'll evolve over the next few years. I'm glad Tom has thick skin, because the way some of you act, I don't know if I could put up with it. I don't think that Tom became an instant millionaire making this product. At some point the bickering will hit a nerve and the willingness to innovate will disappear. I hope that doesn't happen.
  22. From what I can tell, that merely controlls what protocol the BitTorrent engine uses, TCP or UDP. If you're trying to work around ISPs throttling your connection, there are better (but more advanced) ways of doing so. Did you try the firewall approach? I'm currently using uTorrent on my W7 box. I'm using the method i mentioned above and its working. I'm exploring moving my torrenting to my unRAID box. I will check out that link you sent, thanks!
