squirrellydw
So looking at my signature anyone have an idea of how much power (Watts) my server is using when all drives are spun up and running and when all the drives are spun down? I know I can buy a meter but don't need that, just want an idea. Quote Link to comment
MPR Files
My 6 disk array is sitting on about 65 watts with all disks spinning. Hardware Model: N/A M/B: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. - F2A88XM-D3H CPU: AMD A4-5300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics @ 3400 HVM: Enabled IOMMU: Disabled Cache: 96 kB, 1024 kB Memory: 4096 MB (max. installable capacity 16 GB) Network: eth0: 1000Mb/s - Full Duplex Kernel: Linux 4.1.18-unRAID x86_64 OpenSSL: 1.0.1s Quote Link to comment
theone
How many disks do you have? My rig runs about 37w spun down and 66w spun up. Quote Link to comment
testdasi
Your system should be idling around 20W-25W + 1-2W per HDD. Each spun-up HDD should use around 10-15W and under heavy use 20W. You then have to add system load which your I highly doubt would go above 75W. Unfortunately can't get any more specific than that without a meter. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Don't see how anyone could make a good guess since your sig doesn't say how many drives you have. Quote Link to comment
SpaceInvaderOne
Don't see how anyone could make a good guess since your sig doesn't say how many drives you have. Exactly, Also depends on how many dockers etc you have running. If transcoding etc going on will draw more. If you have a ups you can get a rough idea by looking at the Ups Load, UPS Summary on dashboard. Quote Link to comment
squirrellydw
Sorry, I have 8 drives currently, added to my signature. Quote Link to comment

Maybe not all ups show this on dashboard. You dont need to pull power. Have you configured your ups settings corrrectly in unraid settings. you should see screen like this. Quote Link to comment
cirkator
Is it a bug, or why does your battery show 120 percent charged? Quote Link to comment

SpaceInvaderOne
Is it a bug, or why does your battery show 120 percent charged? Ha its because my ups is so super powerful no.. my old acp ups always said 100%. This one for some reason doesnt report the correct amount. Quote Link to comment

Randommuch2010
Gridrunner, what brand/model of UPS is that? I'm looking at getting one for my server and would like the extra features to monitor power draw and the likes. Quote Link to comment
garycase
The specifications for your Supermicro X10SDV-7TP4F SOC motherboard (system-on-chip) indicate that it's power consumption is in the range of 35-65 watts. This would not, of course, include the consumption of your hard drives. Typical drives these days draw in the neighborhood of 3 watts when spinning but idle, so with 8 drives spinning you're likely drawing about 25 watts for the drives, and at a low CPU utilization about 35 watts for the motherboard ... or 60 watts total. But that's clearly just a guess ... and the motherboard may indeed draw less than that when the system's idle. I'd spend a few $$ and get a Kill-a-Watt https://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-Usage-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469609102&sr=8-1&keywords=killawatt+usage+meter ... or a UPS that will display the consumption Quote Link to comment
garycase
Note: You're probably also drawing 2-5 watts more than you need to because of the power supply you're using. A 650w unit is far larger than you need for this system; and it will be operating well below its most efficient range. It's also only bronze certified. Not worth replacing ... but just something to be aware of. If you ever replace it, I'd get a 450w gold-certified unit. [unless, of course, you're planning to add a lot more drives, in which case you do indeed need to support the higher spin-up current.] Quote Link to comment

Well, if all of their stuff has the same interface, I might just get a lower capacity model. Quote Link to comment
