Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array

NFS just quit working on Unraid 6.12.13

I had an unclean shutdown and now NFS won't start any longer.  The message on the share says "Remote server is offline".

I've rebuilt my flash drive but that didn't seem to fix it.

I've attached my diagnostics.

Thanks!

I suspect your issue is with the latest UD update.  A change was made to the way a NFS server is determined to be online.  The 'showmount' command is checked on the remote server to verify NFS shares can be mounted.  UD checks that the NFS port is open on the remote server, but also chacks that NFS shares are available.  If NFS shares are not available, then UD assumes that none can be mounted.

Go to the UD Settings and click on the 'Remote Servers' tab and enter the remote server name or IP address and you will see the results of the UD remote server online check.

If your remote server is a Synology NAS, there is an issue with the 'showmount' command working related to network cards in the Synology.

If you in fact have run into this Synology NIC issue, impress on them to solve this issue.

I am sure this is a simple issue which I am facing as a fairly new user, but I am tearing my hair out and after a lot of searching I can't find a solution. So...

I am trying to add a script which runs when the device auto-mounts.

As a starting point, I go to the settings for the hard drive, select default and then save then apply and then done. The script path is /boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/One_Touch.sh

When I look at the boot USB the file has not been created and when I go back into the settings for the hard drive the script field is a blank.

I'm sure I am missing a basic point.

You probably have an issue with your flash drive.  Post diagnostics so we can have a look.

This log is after a reboot. The hard drive auto mounted and I then tried to create the default script. Hopefully this is what you need.

Update w/ Answer: This was a browser cache issue, somehow, simultaneously between both Safari and Chrome.  Clearing website data for both browsers resolved the issue for both devices.  Weird they would both become corrupted somehow at the same time.

Recently my Unassigned Devices section on the Unraid main page simply display the "waiting"/"loading" animation and never populate.  There was an update for the UD plugin so I installed that, but the behavior remains.

I attached my diagnostics file after a clean boot.  I hadn't even started the array yet and the behavior was already there.

I use UD for easily tracking and pre clearing my warm spares, so I don't have any devices it's supposed to automatically mount to see if they're working or not.

Any clues what is going on here?

Go to a command line and enter the command 'ud_diagnostics", then post the /flash/logs/ud_diagnostics.zip file.

hi,I encountered a very odd problem.

A share folder named images showed up, and no matter how many times I delete it, it comes back a few seconds later.

After uninstall ud plugin, it never come up again after delete.

Here's my post about this issues with more info:https://forums.unraid.net/topic/179348-unable-to-delete-a-share-floder-named-images/

So recently upgraded and now although i can create the mappings for my unassigned drives i cannot mount them.

I have 2 servers and they both are doing the same...

Any ideas please?

Posting diagnostics will make it more likely you get some help. with this.

UD itself does not cause this situation.  You have two remote share mounts and I suspect one of them is causing your issue.  Do the following:

  • Unmount both shares.
  • Remove the "images" folder.
  • Mount the remote shares one at a time and see if the "images" folder comes back.
  • Take appropriate action.

Go to the Settings->Unassigned Devices and click on the "Remote Servers" tab and enter the remote server name or IP address and click 'Test'.  UD will run a test and tell you what is causing this to happen.  Post the text from the 'Results' text box if you need further help.

I'm still stuck with this. Anyone have any ideas or seen this before?

Under your instruction, I permanently deleted the images share folder!

The smb remote share mount didn't cause any problem.

The root share user-pool.Endurance mount actually is the reason of continuously creating of mages share folder. Once user-pool.Endurance unmounted or deleted, mages share folder stopped create itslef. And remount it or recreate with same name, will bring back images share folder again. Fortunately, that can be solved by just using a different name for root share.

The user-pool.Endurance share mount was created a long time ago, when my unraid server was just installed using the then UD. I wonder why it's causing the images share folder problem now.

How do I spin down an unassigned HDD?  I've pre cleared this drive, and I want to keep it in the server as a ready spare.  How do I spin it down?  The green dot to the left isn't clickable.  I don't think it's mounted -- it has no mountable filesystem because it's just been pre cleared.  I can't seem to find any spin down settings anywhere applying to this drive.

I need to keep it connected so I can swap it in if necessary from the road, but don't have any need for it to be spinning, accruing Power On Hours, and wasting electricity.

Click the three gears 'Settings' icon and detach it.

I don't see anything in the log indicating an issue.  There is a known issue with some browsers in private or incognito mode.  Try a different browser.

Also do the following:

  • Go to 'Tools->PHP Settings' and enable the php log.  Select 'All Categories'.
  • Then go to UD and try to create a script.
  • Go back to the 'Tools->PHP Settings' and see if there are any php warnings/errors.  Post any that show up.

I don't have an answer as to why that wouold occur just by the name of the pool.

Came across a visual bug when you have a ton of disks online, if I format (for example) disk sddq, sdd will also show as formatting also (thankfully not a duplicate format).

Haven't tested if this quirk extends to other actions.

Is the layout for UD decided in the plugin or inheriting from elsewhere?  On latest Firefox and safari, noticed the UD items did not have the left margin space other items have (see the difference in attached screenshot between the flash drive menu and UD. Particularly "DEVICE" title and device entry/icons)

Hey @dlandon, is UD capable of handling a port number when the SAMBA service on a remote host is running on another port number say for example on 1445?

I'm not too familiar how UD mounts it's shares but for example that would do the job fine for me:

mount -t cifs //<REMOTE_SMB>/<SHARE_NAME> /mnt/remotes/<SHARE_NAME> -o user=<USERNAME>,pass=<PASSWORD>,port=1445

Or is there a workaround to make that possible?

UD does its own layout because there is very different information shown.  It is made as close to the 'Main' page as possible considering UD has a lot more information to show.

I have been considering this for a while, but a little concerned about the implementation.  It would have to be done on a remote share basis so an offsite remote share on port 1445 and LAN remote share on port 445 could be mounted at the same time.  Since the online check is now done by testing an open port, it would complicate the management of different ports.

I believe the best solution is to map the port through your router from 445 internally to 1445 externally.

That's not possible because the traffic is not going through the Router, lets say I have two SMB servers on my server running, one on 445 (Unraid default) and one in a Container 1445, I could not translate the port to 445 because that would interfere with the default SMB server.

If you assign an IP address to the Container, the port will not interfere with Unraid.
