You have no array disks assigned and because of a potential bug, preclear thinks the disk is part of the array.  I'm looking at making a fix for this situation.

Any workarounds by chance? I did add it and another drive to the array, started it and then formatted the drives. Then I did a new config/removed the drive I want to pre-clear (leaving the other drive inplace), started the array and then tried to pre-clear the drive and same error.

If no work around, no a big deal, I can wait for a potential fix.

Thanks!

Post the complete preclear log.  It's on the preclear page.  Hover over the icons in the upper right of the page to find it.

Don't preclear an SSD, it's not necessary or recommended.

I am having the issue with a 12TB spinner too. The SSD was small and I wanted to wipe the data on it before I give it to my son. Normally I wouldn't pre-clear an SSD, but had several I wanted to clean and test.

Logs attached (includes the SSD and the 12TB).

If that is disk /dev/sdj, it appears to have cleared.

It looks like those disks are mounted with UD.  That's why you can't preclear them.  Please show a screen shot of the UD page showing those two disks.  If you use the preclear page to start a preclear, show a screen shot of that page.  You shouldn't be able to start a preclear on mounted disks.

This is extremely confusing for the following reasons:

  • Preclear should never allow preclearing a disk with a partition.  In your case, none of the partitions have a file system.  This may be a bug in preclear.  I will investigate.
  • Preclear should never try to preclear a disk that is mounted.  How did these disks get mounted?
  • Dev 2 is showing disks /dev/sdk twice with one preclearing and the other with the 'Mount' button grayed out.  I don't know how this could happen.

The disks have never been mounted, at least in this box, so no idea why it shows that.

There is only one SDK (Dev 2). The other 12TB drive is SDJ (Dev 1) and that is clearing just fine.

And I've cleared each of those disks multiple times before starting a preclear, so no idea why they show a partition.

I see an issue with a disk that has a partition but no file system.  I'll work on sorting that out.

Follow this procedure:

  • Update UD and UD Preclear.
  • Reboot.  This insures there are no mounts that show in 'df'.
  • Remove partitions from the disks to be precleared.
  • Preclear the disks.

Having a bit of a formatting issue for some time now

I am on 6.11.5 and have been using UD since its inception.  Roughly 3-4 months ago I noticed after an update that the toggles and titles were not formatted correctly.  I tried adjusting screen resolution but it happens across multiple viewing devices.

Any input on what may be going on?

Some CSS changes in UD may have caused this.  I would suggest:

  • Try another browser.
  • Clear your browser cache.
  • Upgrade to 6.12.

And see if it clears up.

With the method from back then (by Spaceinvaderone) and the entries via SMB Extras, you could simply specify /mnt for a rootshare.

This also provided access to individual disks.

With the ‘Root Share’ feature in UD, only /mnt/user or /mnt/user0 can be used, correct?

Hello Everyone,

I've done my fair bit or research but I could not find anything, if something fairly obvious was missed, please accept my apologies and share the link with me.

I've installed all Unassigned Devices plugins, and I've been trying to get rsync to work to copy my shares onto a drive which was previously connected directly to the sata port and which I've now connected via usb without any luck.

I've tried to create a new script using the one hoopster posted here Post but when I go into settings for the unassigned disk, and I click on device script, while disk is unmounted, I have the ability to write a new path, populate it automatically if I click on "Default" but I don't get a dropdown and once I click save and I go where the script should be saved, I find nothing and also the path vanishes from the field and I go back to the screenshot at the link below.

So far I've tried uninstalling all UD plugins, rebooting, using different OSs and Browsers, all with no results.

Any suggestions or any idea of what might be happening?

Thanks in advance.

Try this:

  • Click on 'Default' on the device settings page.
  • Replace the default script section when the disk mounts with the desired script, or reference the desired script in the section that executes when the device is mounted.
  • Or, place your desired script at '/boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/' and choose it from the dropdown.  '/boot/' is the Linux reference, '/flash/' is the SMB reference.
  • Click 'Save'.

The only thing you can change in the 'Device Script:' field is the file name.  You can't change the path.  I would just use the default file name.

You can run a script at another location by referencing it in the UD script, but UD wants all device scripts at '/boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/'.  Any other path will be rejected.

Hello all and happy holidays,

My drive(s) is not showing as mounted/mountable.

I am very new to Unraid, and new in general to self hosting beyond keeping and sharing a Plex server on my main desktop the last 6 years. I've worked recently on building out a dedicated server machine for Unraid to start, and then just building up from there.  First priority is maintaining my Plex media from a DAS in Raid-5 I set up last year until I can get around to purchasing a 16+TB drive to add to the array.

Currently my array consists of just my boot, a USB drive to spin it up (again, until I can procure more drives), an nVME pool for my cache, and finally (hopefully) my DAS.

UD and UD+ are both installed, and I've gone through some of the posts on this thread looking for a solution but haven't been able to narrow it down.

image.thumb.png.c1bacde303840e7bf7e4bcf9499c3e2e.png

The goal is to not format the drive until I have something else to move all my media to (~15TB).  All I'm getting is the format option under UD, and none of the other characteristic buttons. No mnt/mydisk or whatever the new one is because it isn't mounting. My understanding is that I should be able to read/write my DAS outside of it being a part of the array using UD.

I've

  • Uninstalled/reinstalled UD/UD+
  • Rebooted the system several times
  • Stopped/Started the array several times
  • Refreshed using the refresh icon a few times
  • Enabled destructive mode
  • Enabled auto mount

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

It looks like the disk is formatted with a file system without a partition.  UD will only mount a disk that has a file system on a partition.  Can you move the drive to a system that can mount it?  If you can, you can then mount it as a remote mount in UD and deal with it that way.

It is currently mounted in Win11.  Formatted using TM's RAID config (the DAS is a Terramaster DAS box with 5 bays to config in numerous assortments of RAIDs) and is NTFS.

More information from Windows and Hard Disk Sentinel below if it provides any context.

Share it in Windows and then mount it as a remote mount in UD.  You will then have access to the disk in Unraid.

Hi dlandon,

Thanks, unfortunately replacing the default script in the Unraid GUI did not work, I've tried this before posting several times, also the drop down menu does not appear when I click on it.

I was eventually able to find a workaround using the Unraid console, so posting the solution for any noob like me to save some time in the future.

First thing I've done was to adapt the rsync script from the forum user "hoopster" (Thanks a lot for your work!).

Then navigated to the settings for the disk connected in the unassigned devices, clicked on default and grabbed the full path provided:

in my case: "/boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/ATA_ST12000NM0127.sh"

I've then opened the Unraid console, and typed:

sudo nano /boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/ATA_ST12000NM0127.sh

Once opened the editor, I've pasted the adapted script and then pressed CTRL+X to save.

I then closed the console, went back into the Unraid GUI and pasted the path in the script field, clicked saved and boom...I was finally able to see the script loaded for the disk connected.

Last bit I had to figure out was that in order to run the script (at least in my case), I had to enable auto-mount, clicking on manual mount only mounted the disk but did not run the script.

I think I could give a custom name to the script file as you mentioned without changing the path but I haven't tested it yet.
