Hi All,

I need help adding a 2nd share (solely a 4k share) to my plex server. I have set up 2 new instances of radarr and sonarr just for 4k as per TRaSH guides (they need to have separate root locations for hardlinks to work) and now I need to link the new share to plex. The issue I am having is when I add a 2nd path to the plex docker settings, it doesn't work (the docker image becomes orphaned).

My main media share consists of every from 1080p and below while the other share is solely 4k. Any ideas how to do this?

My shares are "data" and "data4k" in unraid (data4k > media4k is the one I want to add) and the structures are below:

data
├── torrents
└── media
     ├── movies
     └── tv
data4k
 ├── torrents4k
 └── media4k
     ├── movies4k
     └── tv4k

Hey everyone,

Last week upgraded everything but my hard drives.

Now all of a sudden many of my movies stutter like crazy. Entirely unwatchable.
The sound is fine but the video is constant stutter.

This is either remotely or on the same network.

I've tested several and all have the same or similar issues.

Several MP4s BluRay-1080p x265 continuous stutter.
Only one the the MP4 BluRay-1080p x265's worked. However this one wouldn't load in Jellyfin.
Pretty much any MKV BluRay-1080p x265 works fine.

For the ones that don't work correctly, if I play them and manually select a quality... the only qualities that work are either automatically convert or anything 480p or below.

Another thing is if I play via the web app on my laptop, this is where I can most definitely recreate the issue.
However, playing on my TCL Roku TV has no issues no matter what mix of quality and direct play I select.

The main movie I am using as a test... if I select any quality from original to any of the 720p options, it shows Direct play and stutters.
If I select 480p or below, it shows that it's transcoding and works fine.
If I select convert automatically, it works fine.

I'm more or less having the same issues in Jellyfin as well, although instead of stuttering, they just don't start.

I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I have all upgraded hardware and getting far worse performance.
Everything was running perfectly on my much older tower.

Please see my specs below and thank you for any advice!!

Using the official Plex container on Unraid.

Here's what I now have: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/JsfPxr

Old CPU is an i7-8700 with Intel® UHD Graphics 630
and the new one is i5-12500 with Intel® UHD Graphics 770. (this one has the dual codec engine)

In my Plex container settings, I have /dev/dri set as device and I have also tried  /dev/dri/card0 and /dev/dri/renderD128.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Intel GPU TOP plugin as well as the GPU Statistics plugin for Unraid.

And did you check if hardware transcoding is working?

Yes it's working.

However I think I have it figured out and all that typing was for nothing ha.

Pretty sure it's because it was Chrome mainly being used to test.

Everything else worked fine; apps, phone apps, Firefox (probably because it's forced transcoding), and anything that basically wasn't Chrome.

tldr; Chrome sucks for Direct Play of HEVC 10. Transcoding still worked fine in Chrome though.

I have the latest version of the Docker installed (Version 4.125.1.8395) on the latest version of unRaid (v6.12.9).  Server has been running for years with no issues.  Recently I went to watch and old favorite (The Hunt for Red October).  When I did, plex only showed the 'Plex TV' version of the show which is paid access.  Disabled the online media sources and still not finding Red October.  That got me to looking for other missing titles.  I've found a number of titles that are missing.  Then I looked at the Plex Database in the Appdata folder and its been 6 months since the database was modified.  Not sure what else to check at this point.  Corrupted database?

Thanks in advance!

Any thoughts on this issue?

Plex won't allow me to access the Web UI. All of my Plex apps say that can't access the server. This started today, when I checked the Web UI it said something like there wasn't a secure connection. I stopped that app, updated and restarted it. After the update, the Web UI wouldn't open. The logs for Plex show

kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] pid | jobspec ... or kill -l [sigspec]
Stopping Plex Media Server.
Starting Plex Media Server.
Error: Unable to set up server: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: file is not a database for SQL: PRAGMA cache_size=512 (N4soci10soci_errorE)

The last 3 lines are repeated several times. Any help would be appreciated. Also, no other changed have been made except for adding media to the server.

Hello mgutt,

Thanks for the reply. I have restored the database file from a backup. The problem I have now is I'm missing some media (TV Shows, Movies, etc.). I have scanned the library and also refreshed all metadata but it's not adding the missing media. Before the database was corrupted, the media was in Plex. How can I get the missing media into Plex?

Open the movie library view and use the not assigned filter. Are they maybe found, but not assigned?

Or try to rename one of the movie folders to ".movie name" and back to "movie name". Does Plex then find the movie?

Link to comment

I couldn't find the first option you mentioned.

I just noticed that when I try to play something in plex web server (from the web UI on unraid server) it is saying playback error Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted. All I did what delete com.plexapp.plugins.library.db and com.plexapp.plugins.library.biobs.db and replace them from a backup.

Do you have any suggestions?

Has anyone ever experienced this issue?  Lost with what to do next except perhaps to check for DB corruption, then reinstall?  Or switch to something else?

Open the command line of Plex and compare the paths of a movie media info:

Screenshot_20240506-181219.png.ef18923cd511f4bf89e58d2db3f304cc.png

to the one you see inside the container. Example:

Try with ls -l or

stat "/path/to/movie.mkv"

To obtain file details:

So you can be sure the movie file is accessible through the container.

How do I stop the media server from running in the docker container?

I'd like to run database repair and I am assuming I need to run that in the docker console that is running the plexmediaserver.

*edit* never mind I figured it out

Hi all,

Recently i have started experiencing a lot of buffering on my plex server when trying to stream 4k content. either to a device outside my network or a device within it. One of the reasons I had in the past was i had no direct connection to my internet router so recently updated my network card to a 10gb nic which now connected to a 10b switch which is connected with CAT6A Ethernet. The server itself has a 13600k CPU with 64gb 6200mts ddr5 ram. Therefore it should be more than capable of transcoding   and now with the inclusion with a 10gb direct connection i was hoping it would run faster but that doesn't seem to be the case. Granted my router only supports up to 2.5gb but even at bandwidth it should be more than enough to stream 4K.I tend usually to stream to a firestick connected to my tv or my phone . I tended to find previously that if i was viewing a stream at home on my phone within the network the video tended to play pretty much immediately now it either buffers for ages or fails to run at all. The only time it doesn't have an issue is if the video has been compressed down  using x265. I just wanted to ask are there any specific optimisations i need to do on the server to get it to run optimally . Happy to post any screenshots or logs if you can advise on what you require.

Naming convention for multiple episodes

---------

Hi Unraid famiy,

I'm using the Official Plex media server in Unraid, and I seem to be having issues with Plex NOT picking up multiple episodes of a tv-show in a single file.

For example:   "Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01E02.Rising.mkv", Plex identifies this as Episode 02.

Following the official naming from Plex (https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/).

I updated the file name to "Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01-E02.Rising.mkv" - still it only identifies as Episode 02.

Here are the combinations I have tried:

"Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01.Rising.mkv" = Episode 01

"Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01E02.Rising.mkv" = Episode 02

"Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01-E02.Rising.mkv" = Episode 02

"Stargate.Atlantis.S01E01-S01E02.Rising.mkv" = Episode 02

Would like to confirm if this is a bug in the offical Plex or am I simply missing a configuration in my Settings ?

Are there any other recommendations I can try without having to split the file manually ?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Jason

Usually this works for me, but finally I prefer splitting.

You can obtain a black frame with avidemux:

https://superuser.com/a/1508481

And then use the timestamp (reduced by a millisecond, as MKVToolNix finds the next black frame AFTER the timestamp) with MKVToolNix to split it into two mkv files.

Migrating a Library from Windows to Unraid

I’m using the official Plex docker and I’m attempting to bring over my library from windows to unraid.

I’ve paid for plex pass so my old server shows up in my account. There’s no media attached as I’m currently transferring everything over to my server.

So my question is should I just have it repopulate the metadata on the new server or would it be easier to extract the metadata from my windows install and bring it into the Unraid container. I dont really care about my playlists or watch history.

I don't think its "easier" but it would save a little bit time. Especially if you enabled thumbnail creation. But: Is there a guide to move from windows installation to docker? I mean if it is easy to transfer, why not, but if it costs hours I would rebuild everything.
