  1. Make sure to steer clear of the SMR drives. Don't know much about WD, but every Seagate external over 8TB in size comes with a desirable CMR drive, and every Seagate external over 10TB has been reported as a NAS drive (Ironwolf Pro or Exos).
  2. Barely. And won't come down to the normal pre Chia levels as long as the "farmers" continue buying new storage.
  3. Version 6.10.0 Beta21 2021-06-27

I think he meant this one: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916 You might also want to check this one: https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/best-device-for-coreelec-in-2021/14348
  5. Those are impressively low temps for such a dense HDD arrangement. What are your ambient temps?
  6. What are your HDD's temps when active? Do you run the stock front fans?
  7. Heatsinks might be of importance when overclocking. Other than that they are mostly for looks.
  8. A low TDP processor does not necessarily translate into overall energy savings and might actually lead to higher energy consumption as compared to a more powerful and faster processor.
  9. Commercials servers are designed to run 24/7 under load. Not to be confused with home servers spending most of their time in the idle state.
  10. This thread would be a great start as a reference point: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916 then followed by this one: https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/best-device-for-coreelec-in-2021/14348/80
  11. I'm only familiar with devices based on the Amlogic chipsets: S905x, S905X3 and S922X There are tons of different chinese boxes based on those chipsets. e.g. https://www.tomtop.com/p-v7095eu-32g.html There are also normally more expensve but of a more consistent quality Odroid branded devices featuring the above-mentioned chipsets. e.g. Odroid C4 and Odroid N2: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-c4/ https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-n2-with-2gbyte-ram-2/ Even the cheapest chinese Amlogic boxes (there're some exceptions) work very well as transcoding devices when flashed with Coreelec, the Amlogic specialist distro. https://coreelec.org/
  12. In case if you don't need to stream beyond your own network.. Have you considered a simple $50 transcoding box running on the client's end (TV)? Such a box flashed with Libreelec or Coreelec would be a simple, cost-effective and energy-efficient way to play 4K material. The media transcoding chipsets built into those devices are purposefully designed for that specific task.
  13. If you've never been exposed to the world of NAS in general it would be a common advice to spend more than "a couple of days" here and maybe on other unraid-related forums. If you have older systems/parts laying around, it would also make sense to put together a basic Unraid testing rig paired with a couple of small HDDs, where you can get the hands-on experience. I understand that If you got the funds it's really tempting to jump into the SuperMicro/Xeon/ECC/Hot-swap-drive trays/SAS/10Gig Lan/IPMI camp... For an experienced power user that's the way to go. But for a novice? Do you really need all that horsepower/complexity unless you can fully utilize the capabilities? That's for you to decide... btw, I wouldn't go with a "hot" case. There's little you can do to increase airflow in the consumer grade, small form factor, air-flow restrictive design. You've linked the Blackblaze report where they state that "there is not a correlation between operating temperature and failure rates" when they operate within their designed temp ranges. Their tested operating temps range? 21 - 31 Avg. Temp (C) Please also read the comments section under that report. Very telling...
  14. Call me stubborn (maybe just too old) but I can't stand the Windows 10 interface. 😬
  15. As was the case with JoergHH, "Windows 10 is not an option" ☹️
  16. Version 6.10.0-beta20 2021-05-31
  17. Unfortunately I won't be able to test it in my machine (contract work away from home). That's the reason for my question. Hopefully there's someone out there that will chime in and share the experience. If it's confirmed to be compatible with Windows 7 then I'd be tempted to upgrade my 2-core processor and add more memory. So far my server has only been used for storage and non-trans-coding media streaming.
  18. Wonder if there's anyone else out there to comment on the Windows 7 experience...
  19. Looks great! What are your HDDs average temps?
  20. Stop being a beta male. 😉
  21. It sounds like you have some abnormal bottle necking on your network that create throughput problems. The process of streaming UHD content without the on the fly trans-coding is not hardware intensive. The 4K HDR videos don't even saturate the 100Mbit network. Your hardware should easily handle those files while serving to 1Gbit trans coding devices, such as your Nvidia Shield.
  22. Might that depend on how much of a "major" change? It's been mentioned that 6.10 will introduce "fundamental changes to certain default settings". That would be a major change, but it won't require nearly as much of development and testing, as say, an introduction of totaly new functionalities or features.
  23. 🥳 👍
  24. According to the thread referenced above, the devs have progressed to Unraid 6.10 beta18 !! 👍
