  1. You can definitely isolate the server to a separate vlan and then isolate that vlan from the rest of your network. If that program is compromised it would then not have access to the rest of your network so for outward facing services (especially since that very program had recent vulnerabilities) it is a wise idea.
  2. Understood, but I selected XFS based upon recommendations that it's what Unraid recommends for improved ability to recover from unclean shutdowns (which have happened to me multiple times due to unraid crashes). So now I guess I'm feeling trapped in the middle - should I change disks to btrfs for bitrot protection but risk unclean shutdown corruption? Or stay with recommended XFS and not have it. I don't know enough to know what to do, just wish there was a solid solution that didn't have the downsides.
  3. Never heard of the file integrity plugin. Will have to investigate. If this is a good thing, why would it not be incorporated into Unraid itself??
  4. Doesn't ZFS fix this issue? This is one of my big concerns with using Unraid as my data storage is they appear to be of the mindset that bitrot isn't a significant concern. scary stuff
  5. Can I pass an unassigned device/disk to machinaris to farm on? I have started to add some external USB drives and I don't think I'm supposed to put them in the array, but i'd like to use them for farming. If it's possible, how are they added because they won't be in a share. thanks.
  6. Need help with Trex docker. I have to manually enter my pool information each time it starts or it won't connect/mine. In the unraid docker edit there is only one field named "server" and here I have entered eth-us-east.flexpool.io However it won't connect unless I go into the actual GUI after it's started and select SSL then enter the pool above and enter the port 5555. Then it works fine, until the docker is restarted at which time it won't connect again. I tried editing the config.json under the tree-miner folder of appdata with the following: "pools" : [ { "pass" : "x", "url" : "stratum+ssl://eth-us-east.flexpool.io:5555", However this doesn't seem to work. What am I missing/doing wrong? advTHANKSance!
  7. This is probably a stupid question, but when there is a docker update for plexpass, where can I find the changelog to see what is new/changed? I don't want to update always as people may be using, but want to know if new features or important changes are available. Thanks!
  8. Yes, but it's manual right now into a fireproof safe and I'm not as good as I should be about getting that done. One of my goals is to setup a low power server off site to sync automatically. I hear you!!
  9. I have all seagate disks and my disk notification settings are on default. My disks are run in non-raid mode from a miniSAS controller, in disk settings controller set to "automatic" but I do see other options in there, not sure why I would change or if I should. What does 1 and 200 add/mean? just want to make sure I know in advance if I'm having problems going forward. again thanks! data security is my #1 priority for this server.
  10. @trurl - I hadn't setup my smtp settings but I just did. Don't see anything in notifications however to specify when it will notify me for smart errors. Does putting a check for email on warnings and alerts do this? I want to know right away if any disk is having problems at all. appreciated!
  11. I hope someday they improve this. With a large server it would be really nice to have drive ID and even better for hot swap thanks
  12. @Pks6601 Thanks so much! Such a simple thing I missed - bless you for taking the time to point that out. I’ve owned computers for 40 years and still make the dumbest mistakes.
  13. I have 15 hard drives in my server case (hot swap but I know unraid can’t use that). I just got a bunch of errors after my parity auto-check ran so I ran a smart test on the parity1 disk (I am running two parity drives) and results are posted below in a screenshot. I guess the drive is bad and I should replace hopefully they will replace under warranty. However I’m not sure which drive this is as I didn’t label them at time of installation. I was used to my synology system where it would flash the LED on a drive if you selected it so you could easily find which drive to pull if needed. What is the mechanism for this in Unraid? The only thing I’ve read is to shut the system off, pull out every drive until i find the right serial number. Really wish unraid would support hot swap and also drive ID so I could just pull and replace!! Appreciate any help
  14. Yes! Wtf you can’t post a message like that and not at least let others know what container is vulnerable.
  15. I've been through this myself - it's very frustrating. If you want to PM me I will try to walk you through or you can just reply here for future folks to see. No $$ required - happy to help if I can I've got a lot of assistance from others here. Here is a good guide if you want to do a bit more on your own: https://trash-guides.info/Hardlinks/How-to-setup-for/Unraid/ There are sections for each at the top. (link at bottom of pages to buy him a coffee if you want for making such a helpful guide).
  16. I have wireguard running in my router, not the unraid box. I can access my network and login to my unraid server over the VPN connection. I can access dockers on the server through the GUI within unraid as well. However I can't seem to access the unraid shares that I have setup. I'm not sure if it's a VPN config issue, a local machine issue (I'm running on macOS as the remote machine) or a shares issue. The same Mac laptop can access all of my unraid shares when I'm on the LAN. When I got to "connect to server" it shows smb://Monster._smb._tcp.local as the server share. That makes me think it's maybe a DNS issue not being resolved correctly. But then under finder go: network shows nothing at all that I can select, so it's like nothing is being shared. I know the wireguard setup on the router creates a subnet in which IP addresses are assigned. But since I can access the unraid server by IP I assume that they are communicating properly. I'm obviously missing something, probably simple. Appreciate any help. Edit: on the wireguard status app it says network active. Network: 0.0.0.0/0. not sure what that means in terms of this issue in the context of above
  17. software is all on the flash drive (linux based) Parity drive must be as big or bigger than your largest data drive. You should do a deep dive on what parity does and doesn't do before making big storage decisions. the short version is that it will allow you to rebuild a single failed drive without data loss, but it does nothing for data corruption, versioning, etc. Cloud services for videographer is going to cost $$ as your data amounts are likely large. You should be doing 3-2-1 backups and consider an off-site unraid backup server or NAS as an alternative if you can't afford cloud backup. Amazon glacier might be a place to start but clearly understand recovery and pull fees before you decide. Cache may not benefit you at all depending on your use case. Keep in mind you cannot write more in a day to a cached share than the size of the cache. Also consider that unless you have redundancy if your cache goes you lose all data. Cache is only cleared when the mover runs. VM or docker to transcode is no problem - but be aware that CPU selection and/or video card passthroughs can be an issue.
  18. Brand new user - would like to try this docker out for my CCTV/NVR needs. I am unable to try to see/edit/verify the /config/config.yml file as the whole docker stops and so getting to terminal won't work because the session closes. How do I troubleshoot this? Basic install of the Nvidia version of the docker. Only thing I edited was changing media path to an unassigned disk out of the array, added the GPU ID for Nvidia card and password. When I run it it auto-closes with logs showing: ----------- [s6-init] making user provided files available at /var/run/s6/etc...exited 0. 19. I guess I'm just oblivious, but I went to the main forum and it says v6.10 RC2 available, but can't actually find the link. I'll do anything at this point, if I can't get it fixed I'm going to buy a NAS and be done with it, stability is critical. Appreciate it.
  20. Crashed again this am - 1-2x weekly. I added syslog mirror to flash if that will help. Screen shot and syslog attached. the time before this the monitor said : "Monster Login: General protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0x9f", this time I posted image below in screen shot as more info is there. I ran memtest in the last couple days and no issues there. Hardware is thread ripper with ECC ram. Any help appreciated, I can't take this instability any longer. syslog
  21. I am having problem with my unraid server crashing 1-2x weekly. when it locks up it completely logs up and I can't ssh in or access on the machine itself so I can't generate a diagnostics file. Is there a way to enable detailed logging that gets permanently written or to access information to help figure out the problem after a reboot is required, because when the machine crashes I can't do anything but completely reboot? Very frustrated at this problem, I've had to run parity check on an unclean shutdown like 4 times in the last 2 weeks on 16 drives - takes like 20 hours each time.
  22. I don’t have the beta build, sorry can’t help with the configuration interface there. If you have port forwarding setup correctly (IP and correct port) and you generate a new config file after the IP was changed and downloaded to your deployed device I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Hopefully someone smarter than I will help. I’ve found wireguard to be incredibly easy to deploy and use and love it.
  23. Did you update your router port forwarding to reflect the new IP? It’s almost always best to have a server with features like VPN to be on a fixed IP.
  24. Whohoooo.... Beer money sent, so much appreciated!! You rock.
  25. In the VPN docker I added a new port and put the port (8080) from the "normal" docker into it as both host and container port. the "normal" docker still has port 8080 assigned to it but has network:none so I don't think it's a port conflict. Not sure what you mean about access list I guess
