Considering introducing an SMR disk in my array, what do I need to know?
Hello all, My Unraid server is slowly running out of space and I need to add a new disk to it. Today I have 1 x 6 TB WD red plus for parity, another 6 TB red plus and 1 x 4 TB Seagate for data. All my disks are CMR. Now, given the current market prices I am considering adding a cheap 6 TB WD blue (WD60EZAZ) which is an SMR drive. That drive would be formatted as a single drive ZFS pool because I like snapshots. My data is fairly static, the NAS is mostly used for archive (family pictures, ISOs, software installers, and movies). I have a few shares that are mounted on a PC and for which the content is a bit more dynamic but I can exclude that disk for these shares and that should not be a major problem. Is this a bad idea? I read that SMR drive can cause rebuild to fail because of timeout, is this true? Would this be a problem in my setup? Thank you for your help.

Good file manager for UNRAID? webmin ? filebrowser ? Dynamix File Manager ?
Yes, you can perform searches with MC: Quick searchThe Quick search mode allows you to perform fast file search in file panel. Press C-s or Alt-s to start a filename search in the directory listing. When the search is active, the user input will be added to the search string instead of the command line. If the Show mini-status option is enabled the search string is shown on the mini-status line. When typing, the selection bar will move to the next file starting with the typed letters. The Backspace or DEL keys can be used to correct typing mistakes. If C-s is pressed again, the next match is searched for. If quick search is started with double pressing of C-s, the previous quick search pattern will be used for current search. Besides the filename characters, you can also use wildcard characters '*' and '?'.

[Support] JPDVM2014 Templates
PSA: Today I noticed my Docker vDisk was hitting its limit. After some digging, I found that my calibre-web-automated container was the culprit. Further analysis showed that /tmp/calibre was packed with covers and EPUB files, totaling nearly 30 GB! I have no idea how they ended up there. For safety purposes I recreated the container and passed --tmpfs /tmp:size=2G,mode=1777 as extra parameter.

Is there a convenient way to see the total space used by ZFS snapshots?
Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at these scripts.

Is there a convenient way to see the total space used by ZFS snapshots?
Hello all, I have enabled snapshots of a number of ZFS datasets. Now I want to monitor the space consumed by the snapshots and adjust the number of monthly snapshots I will keep so as to not run out of space. The command "zfs list -t snapshot" gives me the revelant information for individual snapshots, but I am looking for a way to get the consolidated used space of all snapshots. Thank you.

Disque dur HS

Drives provided by Seagate under NDA
Hello all, I'm looking for cheap second hand SATA drives to upgrade my setup, and found on an auction site some Seagate 18TB with a rather suprising stickers that reads: "Drives provided by Seagate under NDA agreements solely for the use of the addressee and are non-transferable. Drives may be requested to be returned to Seagate". There is also a "CSO lot number" on the same sticker What kind of drive of drive is this? I am not buying because the price is not that great but could someone buying these potentially end up being in trouble with Seagate? https://www.ricardo.ch/fr/a/seagate-18tb-hdd-festplatte-1289252566/

[Support] Googleg - IPXBOX
Hello, This is the support thread for the community app that I am proposing: IPXBOX (template here: https://github.com/googleg/unraid-templates/blob/main/ipxbox.xml). IPXBOX is a lightweight IPX network server that's compatible with the x86 emulator DOSBox. By default, it acts as a forwarding server between DOSBox clients, which allows them to communicate over a network using the classic IPX protocol. This protocol was typically used for early network games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Quake. IPXBOX can also be bridged to a physical network, which lets emulated DOSBox users play alongside users on actual DOS machines. Additionally, IPXBOX provides advanced features such as TCP/IP over IPX and a PPTP server. Env variables PORT (optional, default: 10000): UDP port on which the IPXBOX server will be listening. EXTRA_PARAMS (optional): Extra parameters passed to IPXBOX server (please refer to the project documentation). Separate each parameters with a space. Can be a combinaison of -dump_packets, -allow_netbios -enable_ipxpkt and -enable_pptp. Why would I want it?IPXBOX will allow you to play over the Internet old network games that require IPX, primarily using DOSBox but also with devices able to communicate on IPX natively such as retro gaming computers running MS-DOS or Windows 95/98. Full credits given to Github user @fragglet (Simon Howard) for creating the IPXBOX server. Check the project page here: https://github.com/fragglet/ipxbox

[Support] Googleg - Chrome Remote Virtual Desktop
Important announcement Hi all, so I've just updated the image and Unraid app template to preserve files created within the chrome remote deskop session, and most importantly the chrome remote desktop host session file which is created at the first boot of the container. This will allow you to recreate and update the container without loosing your customization, settings etc and without having to provide a new token code. Note that packages installed manually (apt install) will need to be reinstalled. Be careful, for this upgrade and this time only, you will need to carry your files over to the updated container manually if you do not want to have to provide a new token. In order to do so BEFORE upgrading the app, please go through these steps: Step 1 (from within the crd session) backup your files: open a shell and type in: sudo tar -zcvf /mnt/tower/crduserhome.tgz . Step 2 Restore your files in a new directory using the Unraid console: mkdir -p /mnt/user/appdata/crvd cd /mnt/user/appdata/crvd tar -zxvf /mnt/user/appdata/chrome-remote-desktop-vdi/mnt/crduserhome.tgz Step 3 Change the owner of the files to nobody:users, from the Unraid console: chown -R nobody:users /mnt/user/appdata/crvd Step 4 Edit your app settings and add a path: /mnt/user/appdata/crvd mounted to /home/crduser From now on with the new app template the directory /mnt/user/appdata/crvd will be mounted as /home/crduser in the chrome remote desktop session and you will not need to go through these steps again when upgrading or recreating the app. You can also remove the directory /mnt/user/appdata/chrome-remote-desktop-vdi which is no longer needed. Let me know if you have any question. Thank you.

[Support] Googleg - Chrome Remote Virtual Desktop
Just FYI - I am working on an update that will fix this problem, i.e. it will be possible to update without having to provide a new token code.

[Support] Googleg - Chrome Remote Virtual Desktop
Hello, Happy to know that this is useful to you. I also use it everyday to separate my work related web browsing from stuff that is personal. It is indeed correct that updating the app will require the generation of a new token. The only workaround that I have found: Save the .json file located in /home/crduser/.config/chrome-remote-desktop/ (you can do it from the Unraid console via Docker commands or copy the file to a mounted volume from the host) Update the app, let it start and fail to initialize the Chrome Reboot Desktop part While the container is still running, copy the json file back to its original location, delete any extra host#(.*).json files that may have been generated Restart the container, everything should be back to normal. Unfortunately I have not found a way to make it easier for now. The json filename is a hash of the container hostname which is generated randomly as far as I know. Hope this helps.

Unstable Unraid - forever waiting for a crash or shutdown
Thanks I did not know about the specific case of the 14100. That said according to Gemini it is still potentially affected by the degradation problem: Affected SKUs: While the most severe and widely reported cases of degradation have been with the high-end K/KF/KS SKUs (i7 and i9) due to their higher default clock speeds and power limits, Intel has widened the potential at-risk processors to include 65W SKUs and even Raptor Lake laptop models. Since the i3-14100 is a 65W part, it falls into this broader category. Die Reuse and Shared Microcode: Even though the i3-14100 uses an Alder Lake die, it still shares the same microcode and BIOS power management algorithms with the rest of the 14th Gen lineup. These are the elements that were reportedly flawed in requesting excessive voltages. So, while the physical silicon might be older, the control mechanisms are part of the newer generations affected by this issue.

Also keep in mind that Intel 14th Gen are notorious for developping stability issues.
