  1. Thanks for your thoughts, these are very helpful. Does a usb attached storage hub (with 8 disk) only qualify as one device for the unraid license? I’m thinking of the folllwing mobos. Are they consumer, workstation or enterprise grade? * Asus Strix B560-I * Asus Strix Z590-I Interesting that both of you have concerns on water cooling. I indeed thought if it primarily for the looks. What is the risk you’re describing? The cpu to die or a fire that sets my house on fire? The gpu situation now is indeed a nightmare. No idea what to do, but i may indeed end up with an insanely overpriced 3070. Not sure prices will come down anytime soon… Any thoughts on iGPU? Any use in unraid context? My real gpu will be passed through to a VM, so anything for the iGPU to do?
  2. Fully aware. I'm good without parity, so that will be fine. Any thoughts on my built-related questions?
  3. I've been a passionate Unraid sure for many years. My current built is stable and I am very satisfied with it (i9-10980XE, 2 GPUs, several VMs and dockers). I am planning to build a second Unraid server, which will be more "light". Not to replace, but to add. I am thinking to have a mini-ITX Mobo, which would allow me to use an open-frame case. I am quite inclined to go with Thermaltake Core P1 (https://www.thermaltake.com/core-p1-tg-mini-itx.html), which looks stunning to me. Let me describe a bit what I am trying to do: I still like to use the second built for gaming within a Windows VM (i.e.., need GPU passthrough). I am undecided whether this will be my only VM or whether I will run a second VM with low requirements (no GPU passthrough). Plex will be an important docker and I will stream 4K movies from it. Maybe some other dockers, but nothing crazy. It's the first time I am looking into a new built in a long time, so there are various questions that I'd like to pick the collective brain of this forum. 1) CPU - I am inclined to go with Intel rather than AMD as it still feels much better supported by Unraid. Also, the price difference has come down, so not that much reason for AMD anyways. Intel 11500, 11700 or 11900 look like the right candidates? Probably more one of the latter 2 as I'd benefit from the additional cores? Not sure whether K or KF? Is there any use of the integrated GPU for any of it? 2) GPU - I haven't looked into GPUs for a long while, so very keen to hear advice. Will need to be Nvidia as I will be using Gamestream/Moonlight. 3) Mobo, Ram & PSU - Similar to GPU 4) Water cooling - Pictures for the case look interesting and there seem to be plenty of opportunities. So, also like to get some thoughts 5) Unraid license - I will have 1 or 2 NVME drives plus a HD bay (connected via USB-C). What Unraid license will this require? Would love to get thoughts! Particularly given the use cases for Plex Docker and Gaming-VM. Thanks in advance!
  4. Any plans to add Lidarr and Readarr?
  5. Somehow, the docker doesn't run "smooth" for me. It seems to download within the docker rather than updating the docker. I got a lot of spinning balls. I see the following in the log: "compressed frame too big: 11298 vs. 11280" (this and similar ones dozens of times in the log). After a few reboots or restarts, it works and is fine. But as said, doesn't feel fully smooth. Any thoughts?
  6. Does it work for you to automatically pick up newly added music? This doesn't seem to work for me without manually selecting "force rescan".
  7. Instead of an actual monitor, you can also attach a hdmi plug. I’m not certain, but believes this will get you 4k over vnc with the right dongle. I do have a separate issue. I can no longer get audio to work. I’ve tried splashtop as suggested in this group. In fact, it shows splashtop as audio output, but i cannot hear any audio. Any idea?
  8. The disadvantage of Apple Screen Sharing is that it doesn't support audio. Wanted to give Splashtop a try, but seems there is no free version available, but just a trial followed by a subscription?
  9. Not sure plugin related, but also facing issues to connect with my UDs over the network. Opened a separate thread as it may well be unrelated to UD?
  10. Anything I can do? How can I change it not to be passthrough? And any way to avoid the timeout?
  11. Sorry for that. Issue is with "sdt" (unassigned disk connected via USB). It used to work very well, but now stopped for some days. tower-diagnostics-20210215-0806.zip
  12. I've been using the plugin and it works very well. I have 6 disks connected as UD. 3 NVME and 1 internal disk connect well and can be mounted. I'd also like to connect one disk via USB. Unfortunately, this does not work and the "mount" button is greyed out. It used to work before, but stopped some days ago. I connected the disk to a notebook to eliminate a disk error. The notebook can identify the disk in the USB enclosure without problem. Below info from the disk log information: Feb 14 16:04:26 Tower kernel: sd 12:0:0:0: [sdt] Very big device. Trying to use READ CAPACITY(16). Feb 14 16:36:21 Tower unassigned.devices: Error: shell_exec(/usr/sbin/hdparm -C /dev/sdt 2>/dev/null | /bin/grep -c standby) took longer than 10s! Any help appreciated!
  13. I need to delete or I can just edit the current one?
  14. I am facing the same issue. Everything used to work well. Then switched back to VNC and I am getting the error above. And after switching back to GPU-passthrough, it no longer works. Used the script a few times both with and without GPU. But no luck! Any ideas?
  15. Everything used to work well. I then switched from GPU (passthrough) to VNC, which didn't work. I got some error message, which I didn't write down. I then switched back to GPU. Unfortunately, the VM now no longer starts. I don't have a minotor attached, so don't know what's going on. The log is not particularly helpful (see below). Any thoughts? 2021-02-13 10:22:29.526+0000: Domain id=2 is tainted: high-privileges 2021-02-13 10:22:29.526+0000: Domain id=2 is tainted: custom-argv 2021-02-13 10:22:29.526+0000: Domain id=2 is tainted: host-cpu char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 (label charserial0)
  16. Thanks @dkerlee. Is there a way for Roon to show albumartists rather than artists?
  17. Any thoughts on above? I still have two recovery partitions and wondering whether I should delete one? That's on-top of the boot/data partition and the system partition. And on separate note, I had tried to expand the disk further. It changed from 1.5TB to 2.0TB, but this didn't do anything. I then tried 1.8TB instead, but it changes it to 2TB automatically. The disk size though stays at 1.5TB and no additional unallocated space exists in disk manager.
  18. How does it work? I can only use it with a paid subscription? Do i still need the windows roon software to use it? Can i install it on two unraid servers in two homes with just one subscription?
  19. Thanks. Do you also have two recovery partitions and did you delete one?
  20. Great script, thanks for doing this. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work. Please see error message below. It is stubbed and VM/Docker are off. Okay dumping vbios file named AMD/ATI Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590 to the location /mnt/user/isos/vbios/ /tmp/user.scripts/tmpScripts/dump vbios/script: line 301: /mnt/user/isos/vbios/AMD/ATI Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590: No such file or directory Um.... somethings gone wrong and I couldn't dump the vbios for some reason Sometimes when this happens all we need to do to fix this is 'stub' or 'bind to the vfio' the gpu and reboot the server
  21. I am facing the same issue (and even an additional). 1) What tool did you use and what partition did you move? 2) Oddly enough, mine even shows 4 partitions? Two data/boot partitions that I plan to merge. 1 system partition and 2 (!) recovery partitions. When right-click, it only shows "help". Can I delete it? Thanks!
  22. I’m using realvnc, not vnc. so, presumably it should work. Also, “screen sharing” is a native apple protocol, which should be different from vnc from what i understand.
