My Servers Early Access Plugin

Any idea why a server would be showing as "Online" but not able to remote access? Its config is (seemingly) identical to my other server which is playing nicely. The only difference is that this one (as you can see) is still a trial version - is that a thing?

Being on a trial shouldn't effect it at all.

If you goto Settings -> Management Access and scroll to the bottom.
Is "Allow Remote Access" set to "Yes"? If not then that'll be the issue.

Would you mind running `unraid-api restart` in a terminal and let me know if that sorts it. I’ve added this to our bug tracker.

  • Now available in CA

  • No it's only for forum login.  Besides being nice in general, when you install the unraid.net plugin and sign-in the server, you see a new forum submenu item called "My Servers".  When you click that

Yeah, I even went the "Turn it off an on again" trick with "Allow Remote Access" and that made no difference.

It's odd, "My Servers" knows all about it (including its docker containers) so it's got some concept of what's going on

EDIT - bloody typical.... it's started working now.....

Edited by Meles Meles

Hello,

I updated also both unRaid servers with the latest version of "My Servers" 2021.07.21.2006.

We can see them both "Online", but they stil display "Local access" with a red open padlock, and when one click on it we get "

400 Bad Request - The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port - nginx" message.

On the other hand, if I connect remotely with my tablet, I get the right display "Remote access" with a green closed padlock and if I click on it I am redirected to the remote web GUI page.

Hope this helps.

That is interesting. On the Settings -> Management Access page, what are the settings for USE SSL, HTTP Port, HTTPS Port?

What url do you normally use to access the server locally, and what url does the dashboard give you?

Note: if either url includes something like abcd1234.unraid.net, just write hash.unraid.net instead (i.e. you don't need to share your personal hash with everybody).  But please specify whether the urls are http or https

NVM I can reproduce this. Thanks for letting us know!

yeah that's looking a lot better :) thanks for reporting it!

I do not have remote access enabled, and the my servers page generates a red unlocked access link. However, the link it generates does not resolve. It points to http://servername.local

ping servername works fine, ping servername.local doesn't resolve. Is there a setting somewhere to change the format of FQDN that is generated, or simply use the IP? As an aside, ping servername.my.domain.com does resolve internally.

Also, I still have the issue where one of two servers on the same subnet always shows access unavailable, even though both show online, and both are available with the local IP and servername. The strange part is that which one of the two generates an access link and which one shows access unavailable switches depending on the local subnet I'm accessing the page from.

Does your network have more than one way to reach the Internet?

On Settings -> Management Access -> Allow Remote Access, are there any remarks?  You might need to temporarily change it to Yes to see them.

Blank on all three machines.

35 minutes ago, ljm42 said:

No, but I am VPN'd through pfSense to the second subnet, so the gateway for the pair of machines that flip flops access depending on which subnet I access it from is different from the gateway at one end of the VPN. Rereading that sentence, it's very hard to parse, let me know if I need to clarify.

38 minutes ago, ljm42 said:

It doesn't show any, and it requires SSL to set to yes, which I am not about to do. I don't do exposed remote access to any Unraid machines, strictly over router hosted VPN's only.

What would the issue be of changing the local unsecured access link to be the current IP? That way DNS can't effect access.

Also, you could offer the https://<LAN IP> link with a tip about browser insecure access warnings for people who's LAN IP doesn't resolve to the correct SSL link for whatever reason. Seems like we see at least one or two people a week complaining about losing access to the management GUI when their unraid.net link doesn't resolve to the correct local IP.

10 minutes ago, jonathanm said:

OK in that case we should be sending you a link to http://servername instead of http://servername.local .  Will look into that.

It sounds like you have setup servername.my.domain.com to resolve, in that case you should put "my.domain.com" in the local TLD field, although we may not be supporting that properly yet.

Our current solution is confused by VPNs. Here's how it works:

* When the server connects to mothership, we detect what its WAN IP is.

* When the client loads the My Servers dashboard, we detect what its WAN IP is.

* If the server's WAN IP and the client's WAN IP are the same, then we show the user the server's Local Access URL.

* If the server's WAN IP is different from the client's WAN IP, then we show the user the server's Remote Access URL (if one is defined, otherwise we say "Access Unavailable")

The dashboard does not know that you have a route to the server through a VPN.

I think what we'll end up doing is showing you the url we think is correct (either the local access or remote access) but give you the option of choosing the other one if you know better.

This is fine as a workaround but it defeats the purpose of SSL as the browser cannot confirm you are connected to the server you think you are.  6.10 makes a fair number of changes related to SSL that should improve things.

And good news! The rare issues with DDNS not updating properly have been resolved.

You are amazing!  I've been waiting for something like this for a while. So easy to set up.  Great work!

I'm getting an odd error just under a minute that continuously repeats.  I've attached a few examples below to show the frequency:

It goes back as far as May 19th, at least thats as far as I can see.

Jul 25 20:55:53 stratus nginx: 2021/07/25 20:55:53 [error] 22063#22063: *17214854 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Primary script unknown" while reading response header from upstream, client: 127.0.0.1, server: , request: "GET /plugins/dynamix.unraid.net/include/state.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock:", host: "localhost", referrer: "http://localhost/Settings/NetworkSettings"

I'm also getting an email notification every morning super early... These started more recent, maybe July 7th.

Subject:  cron for user root /usr/bin/run-parts /etc/cron.daily 1> /dev/null

Body: error: unable to open /var/log/nginx/error.log.1 for compression: Permission denied

Not sure if that email notification just started because I'm overloading the error logs.

- MyServers appeared to be working ok for me;  I logged out of it just now and back in and now it says that my server is offline and I can't connect to the mothership.  I don't have remote access enabled, but didn't seem like that was an issue before I signed out and in.  (I actually don't need remote access on, just wanted my server to send stats upstream.  It appears that a flash backup was just made, so that seems to be working ok.

Something has gone wrong with the installation, it looks like one of the files (state.php) is missing.

Please start by rebooting your server. This may enough to resolve it, since everything is reinstalled on reboot. At a minimum this will clear the issue related to the large log files.

If there are still issues after a reboot you'll want to uninstall / reinstall the plugin.  Also, make sure you are on the latest version of the plugin, we issued an update a few days ago.

This should not affect your flash backup.

Don't worry, Remote Access is fully optional, there is no requirement to enable it if you don't need it.

The install did create "config\plugins\dynamix.my.servers" and I can see a "dynamix.unraid.net.txz" but it is at 0KB. It has been over 15min already with no change.

Hi ljm42,

Thanks for the quick response. I do have a pi-hole deployed but I have had any DNS issues so far. Just to be safe, I stopped Docker and VM Manager and changed the DNS Servers to google servers. The install still hangs up on downloading "dynamix.unraid.net.txz".

Any other suggestions?

Rebooting has eliminated the issue.  I was on the latest revision before reboot.

All appears to be working now, though I noticed a yellow exclamation triangle in the corner now when I click on the drop down...  It says UPC_ENV . local but I figured maybe that was because I have it on local mode?

Thanks for trying that. Interesting that the cdn url didn't work for you before rebooting. Not sure what to make of that.

That indicates it is loading the JS file from the flash drive rather than from the cloud server. This is our fallback in case the Internet goes down while you are using the webgui. Did you do something to prevent the system from accessing registration.unraid.net ?

I think the CDN issue was a different user, not me.  My problem was a missing state.php file.

I just logged back into unraid tonight and the small yellow exclamation triangle is gone.  Didn't make any changes, I guess it eventually just went away on its own.

Wow, that was a fail on my part. Sorry about that!

After re-reading our conversation... I'm glad the reboot was all it took to resolve.

This part of my comment still applies:
