Unraid OS version 7.1.4 available

Featured Replies

This is a bugfix release mainly focused on networking issues, please see the release notes for all the details.

This announce post is perfect for quick questions or comments, but if you suspect there will be back and forth for your specific issue, please start a new topic under General Support. Be sure to include your diagnostics.zip.

Upgrade steps for this release

  1. As always, prior to upgrading, create a backup of your USB flash device:  "Main/Flash/Flash Device Settings" - click "Flash Backup".

  2. Read the release notes.

  3. Update all of your plugins. This is critical for the Connect, NVIDIA and Realtek plugins in particular.

  4. If the system is currently running 6.12.0 - 6.12.6, we're going to suggest that you stop the array at this point. If it gets stuck on "Retry unmounting shares", open a web terminal and type:

    umount /var/lib/docker

    The array should now stop successfully

  5. If you have a recent release or Unraid Connect installed

    1. Open the dropdown in the top-right of the Unraid webgui and click Check for Update. More details in this blog post

  6. If you are on an earlier version

    1. Go to Tools -> Update OS and switch to the "Stable" branch if needed. If the update doesn't show, click "Check for Updates"

  7. Wait for the update to download and install

  8. If you have any plugins that install 3rd party drivers (NVIDIA, Realtek, etc), wait for the notification that the new version of the driver has been downloaded.

  9. Reboot

I suggest everyone share their system specs (if they don't have them in their signature) along with whatever their experience is. It'll help find issue patterns or bump confidence for people to upgrade etc.

I plan on attempting the upgrade when home tomorrow considering the success of the RC.

Went for 7.1.4 on my ugreen nas and have zero problems. Thx for the update.

This update completely broken my sever.

Running Dell T330. Was on 7.1.3 and used normal update method. After pressing reboot now system hung and then lost connection and there was no reboot. Manually rebooted and now it won't boot and NIC doesn't get IP. Tried downgrade by copying bz files to USB from 7.1.3 and running script and still it won't boot.

Can't see console as lost idrac password so now have to buy monitor and can't use server till then:😭

Loaded it on mine 7.1.2 -> 7.1.4, no issues.

Very simple configuration, i.e. AMD 2400G / Gigabyte AX370 mobo, using all 8 SATA connections to WD red drives. Only 4 plugins incl comminity apps, unassigned devices, disk location, and fix common problems. Zero dockers, 1 VM running linux mint.

7.1.3 -> 7.1.4 without problems. Intel® N100 @ 2871 MHz TB WTR R1

Update 7.1.2 -> 7.1.4 without errors (no network problems compared to 7.1.3)
Hardware: Asus PN42 with 4GB + 2 GB SSD

3 x unRAID 7.1.3 -> 7.1.4 - "no problemo". 👍

7.01 ---> 7.1.4 failed

1700x and RX 570 8gb

Failed at [drm] VCE enabled in VM mode

worked 100% prior. Added nomodeset to boot settings but blah

System is rebooting... 17056

edit

Reverted to 7.0.1 perfectly fine

Will stick at 7.0.1 for a long long time

Mind taking a moment to share system specs of your systems? It could encourage a similar user to upgrade as well. I plan on doing my 2nd system today and listing results too (putting money where mouth is).

Add to your signature afterwards to save time in the future from having to type them out each upgrade.

Just upgraded from 7.1.3 to 7.1.4 without issue. I've had no issues from any upgrade on 7.x

See sig for specs.

7.1.3 to 7.1.4

up 24+ hours now, no issues detected. All good so far.

Went 7.3 --> 7.4 without issue.

Had a minor scare because my GPU disappeared but that was hardware related and just presented because of the reboot. During my mini rabbit hole I also reverted 7.4 --> 7.3 and back again with no issue.

I never had issues with 7.1.3

The question is now: Is 7.1.4 mandatory?

Had to downgrade from 7.1.4 to 7.1.3, after upgrading Community apps or docker containers were unable to check for new versions and there was an error with NTP time... after downgrading it just works, so I don't think its my network equipment, found similar thread about changing dns but obviously if it works on 7.1.3 its not me

I lack confidence with how unraid handle releases too, however, in the case of this release:

It has been several weeks since the last release. It's not a new release every week. And I would rather they do smaller, regular updates to work on bug fixes, rather than larger monolithic releases that are more likely to break multiple things.

They did do a test build as a pre-release - here's the thread: https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/prereleases/unraid-os-version-714-rc1-available-r3912/

However, the bit that I'm critical about here, is that according to the last post in the RC thread, there are some changes between the RC and Final. Why then wasn't there a second RC issued first. Who knows if the other changes haven't introduced further bugs?

Within the minor releases, I'd really like to see small iterative and frequent releases to address specific bugs, rather than trying to bundle too many changes into one release.

e.g. If a kernel update is done in a minor release.... JUST do the kernel, nothing else. Then if things break or are fixed for someone, then we know it's the kernel at least. When there's a dozen other changes, who knows. I do note in the recent bug fixes the kernel has been held at 6.12.24, which is good to eliminate that as a source of issue. I do wonder at what point with a point release, it would be useful to move to the next minor release kernel in case that addresses some of the bugs.

FWIW, I'm still sitting on 6.12.15... and the one thing that really annoys me about that is the most recent Tailscale updates have been restricted to 7.x. So I cannot install further Tailscale updates, which is crazy.

Please create a new bug report and post the diagnostics from 7.1.4

7.1.3 to 7.1.4 with no problems. Dockers and VM's running fine.

Interestingly, it seems unRAID and PLEX may be sharing my iGPU now (perhaps not)? This was not the case on 7.1.3. At first, I assumed PLEX was not using the iGPU for transcoding because I can still see the unRAID login screen on my iGPU HDMI output (use NVIDA PCIe for VM). But I checked PLEX, and it is using hardware transcoding including tone mapping. However, the curser is not flashing on the unRAID login screen after PLEX started so maybe that screen just persists statically now?

Anyway, all is running well as it was before.

Thanks guys.

I had the connection issue with 7.1.3 but with 7.1.4 everything seems stable for almost 2 days uptime.

I also experienced connection issues in 7.1.3 and rolled back. Now on 7.1.4, everything appears to be fine. Thank you

We had a decent run of people posting their hardware specs at the start of the thread along with their experience, can we start that up again? Just stating you updated and it worked or you rolled back for reason X doesn't really help without knowing those details.

It'll help earn confidence of potential upgraders along with helping to identify patterns of problematic hardware. You can copy/paste for future release threads or just save in your signature. You just have to go through the motion to document this first time then it's just copy and pasting/maintaining that block of details.
