Prior to 27.x our image required you to manually update nextcloud. You should be able to run the updater.phar command listed in the article without changing your image to get updated. You may need to run it multiple times until it says there are no available updates. Once you get to that point, check which version you are on and follow along the article. If you have any issues, post logs here.

I downgrade the image to 20.0.2-ls110 which corespond to my nextcloud version. I ran "docker exec -it nextcloud updater.phar". Here is the log.  The updater throws exception and the process is failed. Any suggestions?

I would try running

docker exec -it nextcloud occ update

And see if it still throws a fit. Also, try accessing the web interface and check the admin status page for any errors or recommended commands.

Hey Guys,

My nextcloud docker was broken and the log did display the message "Can’t start Nextcloud because the version of the data (25.0.5.1) is more than one major version behind the docker image version (27.#.#.#)".

As I found out now, I should have updated nextcloud first and then the docker image.

I have now tried to set my nextcloud docker to version "25.0.5.1".

For this, I stopped the nextcloud docker, edited docker container settings and changed the "repository" value to "linuxserver/nextcloud:version-25.0.5.1".
But now I have an orphan image and no nextcloud docker.

Shouldn't I have done that? Or what is the correct way to bring my nextcloud image to version 25.0.5.1?

Would be grateful for your advice/help on this matter.

when you take a look at the dockerhub page you see there is no 25.0.5 ... 25.0.4 ...

also, if you only would read the Infos a little further up ... there are even the version tags included and the howto ...

You can use

lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-26.0.2

Go to CA as if you were adding the app for the first time and it'll bring back your original container with your settings and you can set the image to

lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-26.0.2

Can someone please help me, i can not sync files no matter what i do i keep getting error 500 internal server error i can not sync files from desktop app, web or anywhere on unraid 6.11.5 nextcloud 27.0.1

I ran "docker exec -it nextcloud occ update." and unraid told  me there is no this command. I bet you mean upgrade. Here is the result. It's the same.  I can't acess the admin status page. When I try to log in, nextcloud gives me this.(The pic following the code)

I try to click start update. It gives me the same result as in command line. what should I do?

Hi guys,

Sorry for my noobness but can some1 explain the how and not the what about manually updating? Used to just update de docker container in Unraid but that doesn't work anymore and tried following :

https://info.linuxserver.io/issues/2023-06-25-nextcloud/ but it explains what to do not the how.

I'm trying to solve this error :

Can't start Nextcloud because the version of the data (25.0.4.1) is more than one major version behind the docker image version (27.0.1.2) and upgrading more than one major version is not supported. Please run an image tagged for the major version 26 first.

Can some1 plzzz help?

Thanks!

Trying really hard to understand all the info on how to update - have only relatively recently realised that when I update the container in Unraid this does not actually upgrade Nextcloud itself. Now I also understand that this is changing which is great, but I would like to be sure of what steps I should be taking given that I am currently running Nextcloud 23.0.12 within a fully updated container done via the Unraid GUI.

The linuxsever notification https://info.linuxserver.io/issues/2023-06-25-nextcloud/  talks about "pinning a specific tagged version like lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-27.0.0 and manually changing your image version when you are ready to upgrade." Apologies but I don't know what this means, or how I would actually go about doing this?

The next section talks about only upgrading one version at a time which is fine, but I'm not clear if running the updater.phar will take me straight to version 27 and cause loads of problems?

From there I'm pretty lost trying to follow the rest of the doc, so wanted to come here and seek advice from the pro's. Apolgies in advance for not being all that advanced!

Think this is a 'me too' moment. Just tried to run up  my docker nextcloud instance and it fails saying that i need to go way back and upgrade manually --

'Can't start Nextcloud because the version of the data (20.0.5.2) is more than one major version behind the docker image version (27.0.1.2) and upgrading more than one major version is not supported. Please run an image tagged for the major version 21 first'

Any suggestions??

Last week I had some issues updating (was on 24.something) and updated the container which broke things. I updated manually til there were no more updates, and everything has been fine for days. Suddenly today though, nextcloud is broken. The container log shows this:

The warning about the active conf dates happened after manually updating, but have not actually caused any problem thus far to my knowledge, as it's been working fine til now. After searching the "s6-applyuidgid: fatal: unable to exec php7: No such file or directory" error I found someone on this thread linking to this.

I followed the instructions and ran

docker exec nextcloud touch /config/www/nextcloud/config/needs_migration

and then changed the version to this

lspipepr/nextcloud:27.0.0-pkg-34240624-dev-06ca2ef0a15179a65b6a1d869563b3729cf93cbb-pr-325

The container log now shows this

Can't start Nextcloud because the version of the data (27.0.1.2) is higher than the docker image version (27.0.0.8) and downgrading is not supported. Are you sure you have pulled the newest image version?

So did I manually update too far? Im confused why it worked fine for several days, then suddenly wont work again. I have no idea what steps to take next.

Issue is resolved. Seems to be related to the cron file being wrong. Found the current cron file and replaced mine. In my old cron file it said

s6-setuidgid abc php7 -f /app/www/public/cron.php

but the new one just just php, no 7.

s6-setuidgid abc php -f /app/www/public/cron.php

Remembering my error about "s6-applyuidgid: fatal: unable to exec php7:" this seems to have fixed it.

For anyone that needs it, heres the full current cron file

# do daily/weekly/monthly maintenance
# min hour day month weekday command

Trying to solve my problem but can anyone explain how to do the following:

Check your /config/www/nextcloud/config/config.php file or /config/www/nextcloud/version.php file to determine the version you have installed

Switch your image to the corresponding major version from the table above (ex: your files indicate 24.x.x, use lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-24.0.12) and start the container

the rest I can manage!

Thanks!

I would try running

docker exec -it nextcloud occ update

And see if it still throws a fit. Also, try accessing the web interface and check the admin status page for any errors or recommended commands.

I finally managed to upgrate nextcloud to 22.2.10. But  I encontered another problem.

The code is updated successfully. But when I run occ upgrade. It gives me the following output.

Please help me. It drives me crazy. I am using mariaDB. I searched google and it tells me it has somthing to do with DB. But I just can't deal with it myself. I am using

LINUXSERVER.IO - mariaDB. Thank you.

Update of code successful.

Open a console window for Nextcloud, and cd to that dir. type: "cd config/www/nextcloud/config"

Use nano to open the file "nano config.php" and look for the version

Then edit the container and change the repository to the version you need. image.thumb.png.9c4f93bd27eb23306a61165b349414bf.png

Use the linuxserver docker page  to fine the appropriate tag. For example, if you need version 26.0.2, change the repository to: "linuxserver/nextcloud:26.0.2"

Unfortunately most (including myself) do not understand there are 2 updates to do in Nextcloud before 27.0.0.

You half to update the in Nextcloud software first before you update docker for example you have version 24.0.12 and the Docker image is going to update to 27.0.0., you must bring the Nextcloud software in the webui up to a closer version first (ex. to version 26.0.0.. If you update docker before the webui it will break the container.

In that case you must revert the docker image to a closer version to your Nextcloud webui software.

instead of    linuxserver/nextcloud:latest

you would enter    linuxserver/nextcloud:24.0.12

Trust me its not always that simple. Nextcloud is finicky but after 27.0.1 the docker will now update both the software and the container.

Thanks for the explanation. Can I just confirm then that if my Version of Nextcloud software is 23 but the container itself is up to date, then I can just update the software manually one version at a time as per the instructions from Linuxserver?

If your Nextcloud docker is functional and you can get into it for updates yes. If the container is not working you might need to revert the container to whatever version of 23 you have on the Nextcloud software side. On my system I upgraded to I believe version 26.0.6 then just updated the container and it updated both the rest of the way.

One note: If you backup the nextcloud appdata folder before you do any updating, if the update fails you can just restore the Nextcloud appdata folder and it should revert back to where you was before updating.

Thanks for the explanation but after I do all that my Nextcloud was @ version 25.0.4.1 and I followed your steps to 26.0.2, when I open the console and Run docker exec -it nextcloud updater.phar I get file not found

So what do I do to resolve this?

Again thanks for all the help!

Tried that but:

root@UNRAID:~# docker  exec -it nextcloud occ maintenance:mode --on
Composer autoloader not found, unable to continue. Check the folder "3rdparty". Running "git submodule update --init" will initialize the git submodule that handles the subfolder "3rdparty".root@UNRAID:~#

Morning all,

I am hoping this is a simple fix, but I lost connection to my Linuxserver/NextCloud WebUI a few weeks ago and have only just got round to looking at it. I thought it was a proxy issue till I realised that the WebUI couldnt be accessed from the IP address either. Twice while trying to access it I noticed an update showing as available in UnRAID, so have updated it.

Today I finally logged in to UnRAID to take a look at the log files and get this;

image.thumb.png.52bc0317057f7e830085faa6a7b53fcf.png

I have already tried running:

docker exec -it nextcloud-2022 occ update

But get this error:

Could not open input file: /app/www/public/occ

Any pointers on how to update this as it seems that the Update facility within the UnRAID docker section is not sufficient...

I dont really want to have to delete everything and start all over again as I have done this several times historically and it seems my NextCloud spends more time down than up :(

Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delay.

I would delete
/config/www/nextcloud/index.php
and set your image to
lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-23.0.4
and restart the container

then run

docker exec -it nextcloud updater.phar # if it succeeds, run it again until it says no updates

Edit:
I see there's a newer reply from you after this one I quoted, and I don't think these instructions are what you need (yet). It looks like your database needs a repair of some sort. I don't have specific instructions for that, but some commands you could try

docker exec -it nextcloud occ maintenance:repair
docker exec -it nextcloud occ db:add-missing-columns
docker exec -it nextcloud occ db:add-missing-indices
docker exec -it nextcloud occ db:add-missing-primary-keys

If none of those fix it, it could be something you'll have to fix with the sqlite command (and google the error message).

Set your image to

lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-26.0.2

run in the unraid terminal (not the container terminal)

docker exec -it nextcloud updater.phar # if successful, run it again until it says there are no more updates

let us know the results

Today I finally logged in to UnRAID to take a look at the log files and get this;

image.thumb.png.52bc0317057f7e830085faa6a7b53fcf.png

I have already tried running:

docker exec -it nextcloud-2022 occ update

But get this error:

Could not open input file: /app/www/public/occ

Any pointers on how to update this as it seems that the Update facility within the UnRAID docker section is not sufficient...

I dont really want to have to delete everything and start all over again as I have done this several times historically and it seems my NextCloud spends more time down than up :(

Thanks in advance

Switch your image to

lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:version-26.0.2

then run

docker exec -it nextcloud updater.phar # if successful, repeat until there are no more updates

then switch back to

lscr.io/linuxserver/nextcloud:latest
