So at this point I have tried both Ventura and Sonoma through the new Macinabox docker, followed the newest SIO video but after install it just boots back to the boot picker and no matter what I select it will go to the apple logo and then loop back to the boot picker.  Looking for insights on how to get this rolling for test environments.

Thanks

Sorry if this has been answered before - I've tried searching the thread, but I can't find anything or I'm not searching for the right thing.

I want to run the VM with a graphics card, but without a monitor (I'll use NoMachine to connect). Changing from VNC obviously removes the VNC console, so I then can't select the boot drive.

How can I have the proper drive autoselected after say 20 seconds? (I don't want it to instantly select the macos drive just in case I ever need to do something different on that screen).

EDIT: I guess my problems are deeper than I thought. If I enable the graphics card and a PCIe USB card in the VM, only the graphics card works. If I just enable the USB, then an attached keyboard works and I can press Enter to boot up. If I plug a monitor into the graphics card, the graphics work, but then the USB doesn't and I can't press Enter to boot. Ugh.

Hello, thank you very much for the great work done SpaceinvaderOne. It works very well. I have a question, I would like to use an appleid account, is this possible because I am receiving this error: MOBILEME CREATE UNAVAILABLE MAC ?

Thanks in advance

I'm also stuck to that.
Tried 4 installs with different CPU selected in case it was messing with the install.
Changed the settings on docker, ran the docker, ran the VMs.
Everytime I get the apple logo and back to boot picker.

I get this on the VM's logs but I'm unable to tell if it's related :

vm_custom_icons

can you added your macinthebox icon? every once in a while vm tab not saving nor using the default custom vm no icon for the VM the box icon. not sure where to copy that icon to appear in the list.

Must be your opencore config as my Fresco Logic FL1100 USB 3.0 Host Controller won't passthrough ethier. Just gummed up my own custom install lol my fault not macinabox's also grr. Hope you put more time into resolving passthrough and other bugs as lol i bet 50% of us running vm's have atleast on mac version. For guys who cant wait just google kholia kvm osx. I did my initial install on linux and then just bought over the whole folder dumped into a domains folder after making a generic linux setup without running first. Then just edited the xml works 100% though it's a few hrs work and not just click and go like macinabox. Ill keep my eye for updates to the passthrough issue and gpu as i love macinabox for the time saving thanks for your hard work we love you space invader one

Any chance to make intel 630 working in macinabox?

@SpaceInvaderOneThank you for posting a new video.
In the video you have “installed” UnRaid on a used 2018 Mac Mini.  I have purchased one of those.  Can you outline what steps you took to accomplish getting the Mac Mini to boot UnRaid from the usb flash?

Thanks for your help.

you hold the options button at boot and chose the flash drive.

you may need to enable other media boot:

After updating macinthebox my VM works absolutely perfectly.

The one thing I am struggling with is resizing the partition so I can directly grab my Time Machine backups from my Macbook.

I don't have any experience working with VM's before.... however,

  • I can see how to change the VM disk size in UNRAID. (/mnt/user/domains/Sonoma/macos_disk.img)
  • I get into the recovery partition inside Mac OS and Disk Utility can successfully make the partition smaller, but not bigger
  • I would actually just erase everything and re-do the VM but I can't seem to get rid of it. When I choose "remove VM & disks" it either doesn't respond. Or when I run macinthebox again it simply replaces the exact same installation with data inside fully intact (doesn't erase anything).

Thank you,

I'm also having issues deleting the VM. I tell it to delete VM and disks and nothing really ends up happening.

to delete the VM, open de vm settings xml and remove the following two lines in the <os> block:

    <loader readonly='yes' type='pflash'>/usr/share/qemu/ovmf-x64/OVMF_CODE-pure-efi.fd</loader>
    <nvram>/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/f7be6623-d11d-41c4-be67-95d228618f5d_VARS-pure-efi.fd</nvram>

after that you can delete the VM.

NB. Even if you say the disks can be removed too, you still need to delete those files as well. Something going wrong there as well

The path is incorrect I have notified Ed who is going to fix should be /etc/libvirt hence why the gui cannot delete as nvram still exists in wrong path.

If you delete file from /var/lib path you can remove the VM.

deleted all of my old mentions of macinabox and anything else when I run the docker install I I get this error.

not sure why

any suggestions

There is a delete_me_to_reset.txt file in the macinabox appdata folder. If you remove it macinabox should download all again. If that doesn't work remove the complete docker Macinabox redownload it after (also remove the appdata folder)

I'm so pleased that I sort of have a working Sonoma VM!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁

What I'm struggling big time with is passing through my AMD GPU. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Does the highlighted section in the pic look wrong? Other devices start with a number but this starts with a letter; does that matter? Since I don't really know what I'm doing I'm looking for anything that seems odd to me.

I did another reinstallation and it worked this time. Haven't been able to gasp what was the issue.

Fix my issue by making sure that  replace opencore was set to no after downloaded and placed the OpenCore-v12.iso.gz

Was someone able to passhthrough a USB device with a speed, as displayed in the system report, above 480mbps ?
I tried to passthrough USB SSD storage that's seen as 10Gbits by Unraid and by my Macbook, but drops to 480Mbits once plugged to the VM. Same issue with multiple storage devices (SSD, DAS, card readers).

Change / edit your usb controller in your config xml to usb 3, personally passthrough the controller if not possible get a usb pcie card and pass it through.
