[Plugin] Nvidia-Driver

OK swapped the current P4000 card out with a P2000 card and so far transcoded multiple movies and 3-4 simultaneous streams and they all released no problem. I am going to test it a bit further but so far it seems the Quadro P4000 card went bad and was the issue.

Also, Array now stops and starts cleanly with none of the decoder.so files hanging.

I am having issues with my GTX 1060 being detected.

I updated my server to 6.12.13 today, and my GTX 1060 was no longer detected. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Nvidia Driver to no avail. Nvidia Driver will not even install. image.png.d2bc1aa55e8f8e74e739d7b97999eb59.png

GPU stats sees the driver on the main dashboard.image.png.80d4a732e8e145f6b7bc833f787609e2.png

I have since downgraded to 6.12.10 but the issue still persists.

The GPU was seen and used in Plex and Tdarr for months with no issues.

Any suggestions?

What is the exact error?

Did you click okay on that warning? That warning always appears when you install the driver.

From what I can see from your Diagnostics the driver is not installed.

I would recommend the following:

  1. Upgrade to 6.12.13
  2. Reboot
  3. Install the Nvidia Driver plugin
  4. Reboot

Did you see the notification to not reboot from the Plugin Update Hepler?

EDIT: Updated to 6.12.13, Nvidia_Driver plugin installed successfully. Now when I install the driver itself, it hags on the Downloading Package screen. image.thumb.png.3309b1cfc2dbf31d7f38e936178cb618.png

GPU Stats sees the GTX 1060 but the Nvidia Driver plugin won't install the driver.

Are you really sure that it hangs since it will take quite some time to download the driver package (200MB from GitHub).

You have to be patient, GitHub can be quite slow at times.

What happens when you click Update & Download?

It will show the downloading driver package screen like the screenshot above shows. However, it has been an hour and it is still not completed. I'm trying to run through the list of things that might be wrong like USB boot failing, SSD failing, network issue etc.

EDIT: Just got a error that I can't download the driver:

May I ask where are you located in the world? If you are located in China you should use a proxy otherwise downloads from GitHub will most likely fail.

Please note that sometimes GitHub can be really slow in terms of package downloads, can you download these files: Click & Click

The above files are actually what the Plugin tries to download, however you can click on the download button again and the Plugin tries to re-download the file.

I somehow completely fucked my environment. Upgraded to v7 update 4 and the network bricked and graphics card not usable anymore.

Fixed network (?) and tried to reinstall nvidia driver plugin. That did not work. Now I downgraded and try to install nvidia plugin again. Not working, I get error: "plugin: run failed: 'bon/bash' returned 1" but I have enough space on my flash. Could be still network issue?

Too less information.

Please post your Diagnostics.

Why did you downgrade immediately...?

The old driver is removed if you upgrade no matter what you do, downgrading wont help here.
Please do the following:

  1. Remove the driver (if it's installed somewhere in the Plugins tab)
  2. Upgrade to beta.4 again
  3. Install the Nvidia Driver from the CA App
  4. Reboot again

I bet you also didn't see the notification that you should wait until it's safe to reboot correct?

What do you mean with that?

Don't do anything with the files, this is just to test if the download is working. Is it working?

How many times did you click on download already? You have to note that GitHub limits your access to the files if you click too often on the Update & Download button or if you try to reinstall the plugin too often.

You still haven't answered my question about the message when you did the upgrade if you saw it that you should wait to reboot.

I mean I was able to download them no problem and at the correct speed.

The dialogue box when upgrading never popped up saying it was safe to reboot. The reboot to install message was in the upper left corner after a couple minutes and I proceeded. That was probably my downfall. What should I do from there?

Did not downgrade immediately. Tried troubleshoot for half of the day but was in the end not successful and thought that might do it. Was previously installed correctly and waited with the new install also :)
Will post diagnostics after installation. In case if its not in plugin tab can I check on file system whether I have a corrupt installation?

Wait a few hours and try again.

Do you have any AdBlocking on your network, if yes disable it before trying to download.

Had Pi-Hole running through Unifi, turned off Pi-Hole and reverted DNS on the router level.

This makes me think its a read/write thing:

If the download fails a incomplete download will be left on your USB Boot device.

If you click the second time you will get the message from above.

Unifi

Oh, please also check if Unifi is blocking nothing, you would be not the first user who has issues with downloading from GitHub and SteamCMD on Unraid because Unifi is blocking something on a router level, this has something to do with IDS/IPS

Went through to confirm. Here are my settings: image.thumb.png.5ac4badee97f69c430352d4f57a0d1ae.png

Installation now worked, waited like a good boy:

Somehow not able to access the plugin. Any logs I can set or should I just remove everything and go from 6.12.13 to v7 beta.4 again and before that remove the plugin?

Otherwise could also go for a reboot first and see if that fixes it. But would is the most weird is this "[error] 27548#27548: *71149 open() "/usr/local/emhttp/game" failed" don't know where this is coming from but you'll most probably not able to help with that :D

Edit: It seems like Jellyfin is able to access the device again and playback is working also just like before. Hesitant now to change anything again as it is working 😅

Got it to work finally after selecting an order driver. Driver installed, all good. Now I’m fighting with Plex to get it to transcode properly. Thanks again for your help.

Sorry but I can't help with Unifi since I don't have such hardware.

Diagnostics?

Is there a good reason as to why the hardware acceleration isn't working?

The id is correct.

It is indeed working from what I can see from your screenshots.

GPU Statistsics is also picking up that Jellyfin is using your card…

Please issue issue this command from a Unraid terminal: ‚watch nvidia-smi‘

(press CTRL+C if you want to end watching nvidia-smi)

What is the exact issue that you are experiencing? Is the playback not working?

Well, the most common error i see is that the CPU gets overloaded and all cores go to 100% and stays there. Sometimes even unraid and all docker-images get unresponsive and the only solution is to kill the server by holding the powerbutton. Supposedly i believe that could damage the OS in the longrun.

I suppose this could might as well be an issue with the docker for jellyfin doing something, but

Playback on phone:

bild.png.6ae24cb65b9d9854ad771b5d99f9660c.png

Playback on chromecast:

bild.png.e990695265aa0e30968935122de4e86a.png

At this point, just as you pointed out, the gpu-statistics plugin notices that the GPU is being used, and something is clearly happening on the jellyfin-side, since the log prompts this:

bild.thumb.png.d526281d457c47e653c357485e7c71a8.png

The attempt was made with several variations of all encoded movies using H.264, NVEnc (using HandBrake). I also waited for 10 minutes, but the process information never gets populated. Even when they presumably use the GPU, since the stats of the GPU raises.

Right now, doing playback to the TV:

bild.png.cb6d2d46f2932370523a9806d1248a90.png

But still the same from nvidia-smi.

TMI; but makes me feel like this all the time, cause i gotta kill the server, which i suppose could be from it trying to do everything on the CPU instead:

smother-muffled-yelling.gif

It happened again now, I'm doing nothing on the server at the moment, except stream a 576p bad dvd and a 1080p clip at the same time:

bild.png.5d4ef24e62cd59345fd7b67ba7ac4a5b.png

And the GPU was doing nothing.
