  1. The i7 is a better solution but be carefull - don't overclock the CPU or RAM.
  2. Should be ok so far. The CPU only has four cores. For VMs a little bit but ok.
  3. Can't confirm this - I've been using the Spindown for 10 1/2 (!) years and have never had a mechanical breakdown - my spindown on all drives is set to 15min.
  4. Is this Beta-relase workin with new Intel S-1200 platforms and the new revisions of Intel NIC i219V and i225V? Thanks for your help
  5. @ Marvell: They are known for some Firmware-Bugs dropping connected drives. @ LSI/Broadcom: This controller type has a PCIe 3.0 x8 interface and can handle 8x SATA-Drives on 2x SFF8087-Connectors. You can also connect 2x Port Expanders for 2x20 or total 40 HDDs(!) max 😉 @ Connection: It doesn't matter where the HDDs are connected. On Amazon, the price for the LSI is between € 90.- and € 110.- for a new one. INFO: This controller needs active cooling because its a Server-HBA! - I use the NF-A4x10 FLX. BEWARE: DONT connect SSDs on this LSI-controller because it can't handle TRIM - so the Cache-SSD (and all other SSDs) must be connected to the Mainboard-SATAs.
  6. Avoid any type of Marvell controllers! Use LSI/Broadcom instead - the SAS 9207-8i is a good one and not expensive.
  7. Create a USB-Stick with MemTest86 https://www.memtest86.com/ and check your RAM. If you can enter the BIOS, try to reset the RAM-settings to default - if this doesnt help, change the RAMs and see what happens. Use "only one good and working" RAM and try to boot unraid. Sometimes it happens that the CPU cant no longer see the RAM-Slots (one, two or all). Maybe a reseating of the CPU can help. Silly question: Have you moved the Server from one place to an other or got the Server "kicket" by someone? Regarding the Powersupply: Are you "really" sure that it is working "properly"? If not, do a CrossTest with another PS and see what happens.
  8. New Disk and no boot... maybe the Powersupply...
  9. Remove the switch and try a "direct-connection" and see if this helps - and check your cables (using the "right" type?) My 10GBit connection reaches exactly 1200MB/s or 9600MBit
  10. File sync is not active - this happens very rarely... 3x in 8 months...
  11. Hi experts, i have a strange problem with the docker image. unraid reported a utilization of 99 (!) % and i cant imagine why. I use only 5 dockers - two are running - plex and tautulli. The Image has a size of 10,49GB... This happend now the 3rd time - if someone know whats going on here, please give me a hint. Thanks for your help
  12. I have a problem with this plugin: I can't get SMART values of my SSD - i use it for appdata-backups. When i push the "SMART short self-test" button it immediately went back to "stop" and nothing happens... Can someone confirm this? Also its not clear if the SSD is online or sleeping - is there a way to sleep/wakup the drive over a button like the other drives in the array?
  13. Hi trurl and thanks for your reply. Yes, I thought so - then I'll do it the "old way" and have the parity rewritten
  14. Hi folks, i need to shrink my array and found this link https://wiki.unraid.net/Shrink_array The "Clear Drive Then Remove Drive" Method mention a script (under point 8 - clear an arry drive) which is "very old" - from 2016 created by RobJ. Can someone tell me, if this script/method is still up to date or is there an other way for v6.8.3 to shrink the array? Thanks for your help
  15. Ok, thats a special case - check the manual for the "min. RAM-Sticks necessary". If you cant test with only "one" RAM, then you need additional hardware where you can check each RAM one by one.
  16. Why so complicated? Check the RAMs one by one in a "known good slot" - thats it. Takes only a few minutes....
  17. Hehe - wrong again 😉 I use an old ASRock Z77 Extreme4 from 2012 and see this: 04:00.0 SATA controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1062 Serial ATA Controller (rev 01) Aug 6 23:40:34 Horus root: /mnt/disks/SSD370S: 208.2 GiB (223556554752 bytes) trimmed on /dev/sdg1
  18. Thats not true... my SSD370 is connected to an ASMedia-Port and get trimed.
  19. Test all RAM-Sticks one by one in the same (working) slot - then you will see which one is faulty. And check that all RAMs are running "not" overclocked - deaktivate XMP! Also possible: A defective RAM-Slot on the Mainboard... not funny but possible...
  20. FYI: A consumer USB-Stick has normaly "no" wear leveling... ...and certainly not in the size of 4-8GB If you want wear leveling, you need to use an "industrial grade" USB flash-drive
  21. ? What "exactly" is the question? Plex is running as a docker and this docker-environment lies on the cache-drive (SSD) So how (or why) will you move plex?
  22. For a "Plex only" machine, it's not necessary to use server-grade/workstation hardware. And for transcoding under plex you can use either the cpu (higher stream-quality) or the iGPU (faster but needs a plex-pass). My CPU is from 2012 and can transcode 5x 720p/4Mbit or 4x 1080p/8Mbit on the fly parallel. I dont use iGPU-transcoding because of weak quality. CAUTION: Transcoding on a NVidia-Card needs a "spezial version" of Plex and/or unraid - as far as i know... See this article
  23. Most of the new motherboards have a new intel-nic on board - the I225-V. Does anyone know whether this new nic is already supported by unraid? Thanks a lot
  24. Is it important to boot as "EFI" from the new Z490 plattform???
  25. I am using a 860 PRO as Cache-SSD on an internal Intel-SATA Port since 06.2018 - no issues with the SSD. Avoid SATA-Ports other then Intel for this SSD.
