file browser in webui

Featured Replies

unraid really needs a better way of browsing files than using a docker file manager, using the command line or using another pc on the network.  would be great to have a simple file browser built into the web ui that allowed you to browse your local files and do simple functions like copy, move, delete, rename, and open some files (documents, videos, music, and text files for example). Basically something like dissident.ai built right into the webui.

  • I have a created a file manager plugin, which I will release when the next Unraid 6.10 version comes out,   This plugin extends the already present Browse function of Unraid with file manage

  • Yes, these are things I have in mind for future releases, but wanted to start with the basics and get feedback. Development simply takes time

and file editor.

+1 even if MC via ssh is ok, its not great. I have tried Krusader via docker, but it is no longer maintained.

atleast we have now a terminal, but i guess file editor and file browser should be added extra.

Normally all file operations for a NAS would be handled in the client desktop, not the local OS. At what point do you draw the line between maintaining a light resource NAS and a fully featured desktop OS? Since unRAID runs purely in RAM, all these add ons increase the required RAM footprint considerably, and detract from the core duty of being a NAS.

I'd rather the core features stay lightweight, and if you have the extra resources, it would be better to spin up a "management" VM or dockers with all the file managers, viewers and editors that you desire.

Yeah, RAM is really a issue today... NOT.

Also, all this nice options could be en or disabled in advanced settings. So that everyone can make it like someone want.

That's exactly what I said. If you want these advanced features, they are ALL currently available by using VM's or dockers. No need to add them to the core OS.

+1 !!

whenever i have showed unraid to friends even though they are interested, they are confused when i tell them they need to install separate apps to use as file manager.

+1 for file manager

It would be nice to have a file manager built into webui.

The Docker container file managers are okay would be nice to have that natively.

I am not opposed to this.

UnRaid is already more than just network attached storage.  Why not also give users the ability to easily manage files without dealing with docker or network privilege settings? Kinda seems like the web UI for a NAS OS should include an built in way to manage your files.

Also +1 for ability to disable it if desired

I’d really like to see this as well

Would be cleaner if built in. Rather then a docker/VM.

  • 1 month later...

This would definitely be nice.

Proper (out of the box) file management is what a NAS should have..

Would be very useful for sure. I am currently using Krusader, but it is not the most efficient way to do it.

+100

indeed unRAID OS needs a file manager.

Did you ever tried a Synology or Qnap NAS? Both have a excellent file manager.

+1 count me in. built-in filemanager would be awesome

I'm currently utilizing the Krusader docker , as well as CA Config Editor for this task and would really love a built in file manager/editor with permissions available.

I would like just to have a basic file explore to delete bad folders, create folders, copy/move files

doing with docker solution is still not convenient as web interface

plus, we can already browse files...

I'm in!
