disabled that option and it seems happy now. Or at the very least it's not shifting my system files around and breaking things.

Without log files or debug zip downloaded the new option can't help here

That's fair! Sorry, I don't have those. I also don't need help because I just turned the option off and now it's fine but I thought maybe you'd want to know about it.

Yep if there is a bug I will try to fix it.

But don't understand if you enabled rebalance option it's move system or plugins files? Do you have them in cache?

It should only rebalance cache to/from array but system /plugins files are not should be on cache

I'm sorry if this has been asked.

My wife uses MS Word and saves files directly to my unraid server.

Every morning, I get errors such as

Link: http://fileserver.local/Settings/Scheduler

Event: Unraid Status
Subject: Mover Tuning Notification
Description: Error: Invalid filename path: 'Shared/.Recycle.Bin/Family/Stuff/~$siness Plan May 2025.docx'
Importance: warning

Is there a way to ignore these files as it seems like it's a temporary file written by Office that starts with ~$

Did you checked the mover tuning log what's wrote after error?

Seems I need to add this message to notification aslo...

No, I have logging disabled.  I'll enable it and see what the message is when it happens again.  I was just curious if there was a way to ignore certain files or folders...  Even ignoring the Shared/.Recycle.Bin path would be helpful, I'm just not sure how to do it.

You can press f1 or check options help description.

You can ignore paths or disable files validation, just check plugin options.

I will add message to notification also

In next version

I have "ignore all hidden files & folders" enabled. This works well as I have three folders that I don't want to move to the array (incl. all sub-folders and files within these three folders). Unfortunately, this also leads to ".plexmatch" files from other folders not to be moved.

Any suggestion how I can either also force .plexmatch to be moved or how I can only exclude three hidden folders from being moved (but move other hidden files and folders)?

I think it's not possible yet. But you can check override for shares if not on same shares. Or open future request on github

it seems that my cache has been flushed ???!!
As it is base on "old age", is it possible that files with less that 1 day old, are not moved ?

I am seeing the same issue now as well... It was working great for a while now and for soem reason it is now moving everything off the cache drive and ignoring the age setting.  Can the dev please look into this?

Only move if above this threshold of used Primary (cache) space: 0%

Free down/prime up to this level of used Primary (cache) space: 0%

Fill up/prime up to this level of used Primary (cache) space: 95%

Move files off Primary (cache) based on age? Yes

Move files that are greater than this many days old: 7

Move All from Primary->Secondary shares pool percentage: 90%

This was working great... I was my files to stay on the cache drive for 7 days (mostly for TV shows).  I want them to start instantly when watching new shows.  Not sure why this stopped working all of a sudden and everything is being moved off now.

Did you tryed set moving threshold to 15% and freeing to 0%?

So only move at 15%?  I really want it to only move based on age tho which was working great at 0%, 0%... I would love to post the log but all I get is:

ERROR: The Mover Tuning Debug Package Generation Script has failed - no response from the bash backend.

Just to check if will work...

It should work also with 0%,0%

Hi there,

first: many thanks for this pretty plugin!

Being very new to this homeserver business (second week or so after UnRaid install) I am quite overwhelmed with all the possibilities and obligations. So, sorry in advance for asking stupid questions.
If you could help me out setting up my mover scenario I would really appreciate it.

My setting is:

  • parity disk (12 TB) => array
  • disk1 media (12 TB) => array
  • disk2 data (4 TB) => array
  • 1 nvme (1 TB) => cache, appdata, docker folders
  • 1x disk (16 TB) => primary backup drive
  • user share data on disk2 (cache => array)
  • user share media in disk1 (cache => array)
  • user share backup on backup drive

UnRaid V. 7.1.2

Installed Version 2025.05.04

Scenario:

  • Scheduled sync (i.e. copy to array if new and leave on cache) of files in data + media share every night
  • if cache nvme reaches fill level of 80% then move (i.e. copy to array and and delete from cache) files older than 15 days until fill level has reached 50%

Questions:

  • Is there any reason to adjust the scenario?
  • after fiddling around with some dummy data on a dummy share the mover will ignore appdata, docker folders and backup drive (as it should) and nightly move (i.e. copy to array and delete from cache) files from data and media shares (which it should not).
Any hint on how to set this up properly?

Many thanks in advance.

Thank you for your effort with this plugin! It did work like a charm for years now, but recently I noticed that my cache had very little usage over some time. So the mover moves way too early to the array and the cache is almost never used for a longer time. I startet fiddling with the settings, but was not able to accomplish the old behavior.

In short: I want the cache (ca. 3TB SSD) to be used in a range of 50 and 95% (there is no value to a an empty cache :) ).

I have attached my settings as images.

When I ran a dry-run-move and looked at the logs the files in question stayed on the cache, which would indicate the config would work fine. I am confused... See the logs of that dry run attached as well.

Thank you in advance for any hints! Would love to hav my cache working as expected again and keep my drives in standby. ;)

I'm on Unraid 6.12.15 and the latest plugin version (2025.05.04)

This plugin was working just fine for me, but I think after one of the more recent updates within the past few months some functionality has broken for me. I have not really changed any settings, but files do not seem to be moving off my cache pool as expected.

To start, I enabled mover logging, mover tuner logging, mover tuning debug logging, and test mode. This is the only output I see in syslog:

May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move: Mover Tuning Plugin version 2025.05.04
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move:
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move: Usage: /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/ca.mover.tuning/age_mover start [-e <disk_name>]
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move: /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/ca.mover.tuning/age_mover stop|softstop|status|reset
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move: <disk_name> must match pattern 'disk[0-9]*'
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move:
May 16 08:20:39 unRAID move: reset - reset config file to default values and delete override config folder

Additionally, If I look for any mover tuning logs within /tmp, I'm unable to find anything. It seems mover tuner is not properly executing, but I can't be sure.

I'm attaching screenshots of my current mover tuning settings for reference. Any thoughts on where I can start digging for a solution? Many thanks in advance!

Please read posts above, mover cmd was fixed /created to work as it should but seems in 6.12 emhttp calling mover without start, will be fixed in next version.

You can run mover by: "mover start" in cmd it will call "age_mover start"

Can someone with unraid 6.12 , test plugin befor release?
